Chapter Twenty-Eight

Bold and Italic is flashback

April 23, 2006 (12 PM)

Charlie is sitting alone in the room Victoria placed him in. He is glad he is a cop as he knows how to get people to talk and say things they don't mean to say. He thinks back on the conversation and the information he got from it.

Victoria had gone on and on about how the Cullens were a wimpy version of her. He had thought she was insane. He had popped off and said the Cullens were nothing like her. She had laughed and said "Oh, you didn't know your daughter was hanging out with monsters from the movies? Well, she was and now she is one of them."

He had asked her how she knew. She had responded with yelling because I saw her. He had wanted to ask more, but she smacked him and said to shut up and listen. He had a hard time following after that because he was a little dizzy.

Victoria went into a huge speech about how she and the Cullens were all vampires. However, she was the normal vampire and they were the wimpy vampires because they only drank animal blood. They had turned their backs on their true nature.

She had shuddered then continued. She had tried it many years ago just to see what it was like. She never did it again. Human blood was a million times better.

She then looked at him and smirked. She had asked, "I bet you are wondering how you ended up in this nasty world?" Not giving him a chance to answer she continued saying she was using him as bait to get her daughter here.

That had confused Charlie a lot. He had asked what his daughter had to do with this. Victoria frowned and said, "Her Edward killed my loving James. Edward killed James because he wanted to eat Bella as a meal. Edward wouldn't let him! Edward protected a human! And I am now going to get back at him by killing his Bella!"

Charlie was so glad Edward had protected his daughter. He was starting to wonder if that was when Bella had been hurt and ran away so many months ago? He was pulled from his thoughts when he was slapped across the face again.

Victoria laughed and stated, "I see you are a quick learner. When I am speaking it is best to pay attention." Charlie was trying to focus on her, but she was so strong that sometimes she would literally make him see stars.

He tried to concentrate on what she was saying, but it was so hard to believe! Victoria talked about how some of the Cullens had special abilities and that was what she was using to her advantage right now.

He had asked her what she meant. This time she didn't seem to care about the question and went on about how Edward could read your mind and Jasper could change the way you were feeling. But it was Alice that she was using as she could see the future. So all she had to do was decide what she was going to do to him and Alice would see. Of course, she wouldn't actually have to do it but where was the fun in that. Victoria had laughed evilly. She went on about how of course it is hard not to just eat him. He smelled almost as good as his daughter.

He had been confused and asked. "But what does it matter if the Cullens know what you are doing to me? It's not like Bella is with them. And if Alice could see the future, wouldn't they already know where we are?" This earned him a few smacks across the face.

Victoria snapped, "I wasn't done talking so shut up!" She then explained how Bella was with the Cullens and had babies. Charlie was so shocked he had shouted, "What!" Of course he got slapped again.

He had kept blinking his eyes trying to focus on her. She continued by saying, "Yes. She is with them and they never told you. They never told you because she is now a vampire just like they are!"

After that she had laughed and walked out the door before he could respond.

So now here Charlie sat chained to a wall with so many confusing thoughts he isn't sure what to do with them.

If Edward really could read minds, he swallowed hard; he didn't want to think about that. But what she said about Jasper kept sticking out to him. He kept thinking back to when Jasper had shown up at his house looking for Bella. There was a few times he felt uncomfortable then he was fine. At the time he had thought it was weird, but he didn't think much of it. Now he is wondering if what Victoria had said was true. That Jasper could change your emotions.

But if that was true he would have to accept the rest as truth too. They were all vampires, Edward could read minds, Jasper could change your emotions, his daughter was now a vampire, and…Alice could see him!

This give him an idea. Charlie remembers how Victoria said she had to decide what she was going to do and Alice would see it. She didn't actually have to do it. So if he decided to escape wouldn't Alice see him? All he would have to do is make a plan to escape and focus on it really hard. He may not know exactly where he was in Seattle, but he had a rough idea. He could hear the things going on around him outside so he knew he was near the docks somewhere.

Well, Charlie thought, here goes nothing. He sure hopes this works. He is still in shock about this possibly being true, but he is desperate and willing to try anything to get away. He closes his eyes and prays this will really work and Alice would know how to find him. Then over and over he thinks about how he is going to pick the lock on the chains, climb the wall to the window, push the window open and climb down the outside of the wall, and run to the boats for help.
