Hiccup's Pov:
"Excuse me Hiccup but I don't want to hear anything else so if you need me. I will be upstairs in my room with Thalia." Astrid said. she kissed me on the cheek and pulled her hand away from my hand then she headed for the stairs and left the room.
After Astrid had left the room, I turned to face Heather. I was incredibly angry at her for what she had just said to Astrid. "That was uncool for Heather. Why would you do that?" I asked her.
"I'm sorry Hiccup. But it had to be said. She is not Thalia's Mother." Heather stated. I could not believe what I was hearing from my friend. "Heather Thalia is mine and Astrid's daughter. I will be marrying Astrid and once I do Marry her then Thalia becomes her daughter just as much as she is my daughter." I stated to her.
"Hiccup is right Heather you are not Thalia's Mother, so you have no right to say the things that you did," Dagur said backing me up. Which I was thankful for. I heard a sigh come from Heather.
"Look I know I may have been a bit harsh on Astrid just then and for that I am sorry. I am just worried about Thalia that is all." Heather said explaining herself.
"I will go and apologise to her later after we have discussed what we were meant to discuss." She said. I nodded my head then said, "Fine but you better apologise to her. She is already straggling with everything at the moment. She does not need you to be littering her on everything she does." I demanded. Heather nodded as she sat back down beside her brother. I then also sat back down even though I wanted to go and check on Astrid, but I also needed to hear what Mala's Healer had to say about this sickness that Thalia has.
"So, tell me what Randi said about this sickness that my daughter has?" I finally asked after a couple of minutes of silence. "Well once we got to Defender of the Wing and we met with Mala. We explained why we were there and then she took us to Randi." Dagur said starting to explain.
"We told Randi Thali symptoms when she asked us, and she said it sounded something similar to what they had going around their Village children a year ago," Heather said continuing from what Dagur had said.
"What else did she say about this illness?" I asked the pair. "Randi said she could give us a recipe for the healing herbs that help the children to become better and healthy, but she also said that there is no cure. And that this illness will keep coming back until there is a cure found." Heather added.
"Is that all it was said about this illness?"
"Yes. But the main thing is that we got the recipe for the healing herbs so if any other children come down with it then we know what to make to heal them." Dagur said.
"Thank you Dagur and Heather for retrieving the recipe lets just hope that Gothi can compete it soon so we can start giving it to Thali," I said. Heather and Dagur agreed with me and started to stand up to get ready to leave. I also stood up with them.
"Before we leave, I better go and talk to Astrid first," Heather said. I nodded at her in thanks. "Be nice to her Heather," Dagur said to his sister. Heather nodded then she left the room go upstairs to see Astrid.
Heather's Pov:
As I walked up the stairs to Astrid's room, I was thinking about what I was going to say to her. I felt bad for what I said. I knew I was out of line, but I just couldn't help myself. I have watched that little grow since she was born, I just felt I knew how to handle her better than Astrid did.
Once I got to Astrid's door which was close, and I could hear her humming a song. I knocked on the door quietly but loud enough for her to hear but not loud enough to wake up Thalia if she was still asleep.
"Come in." I heard. So, I opened the door and walked into the room. When I walked in, I saw Astrid sitting in her bed with Thalia asleep in her arms. I smiled at the pair and thought how cute it was.
"What do you want Heather? Come to yell at me again?" She asked me with bitter in her voice. "No. I have come to apologise to you. I was out of line. And for that I am sorry." I said to her. I saw the look of surprise crossed her face as she obviously did not expect me to apologise to her.
"Thank you, Heather, for the apologies but you are right. I don't know how to be a Mother to her, and I have no idea what I am doing anymore." She said as she looks down at Thalia. I looked as well and saw that Thalia clings to Astrid.
"No, I was wrong. You are Thalia's Mother and will be the only Mother figure she has for the rest of her life. Yes, she will have me as her Aunt but that is it. I am sorry if I came across a bit harsh and acted like I was her Mother." I said taking a step closer to Astrid.
"It is just that I have helped Hiccup raise that girl and it kinda felt like I was her Mother. And when I saw you being a Mother to Thalia, I guess I kinda got jealous of it." I added.
Astrid looked at me a smiled bit. "Thank you, Heather." She said. "Well Dagur and I are off now, and we will you and Hiccup spend some time together," I said.
"Goodbye, Astrid," I said as I turned to exit the room. I heard a faint goodbye from her then I made my way downstairs to the boys.
Once I got to the boys, they turned to face me when they heard me come down the stairs. "How is she?" Hiccup asked me. "I think you should go to her once we leave Hiccup," I said.
"Did you say you were sorry?" My brother asked me. "Yes, I did say I was sorry. But I think she is still upset, and she will need you Hiccup." I said. "I will go up to her in a minute." Hiccup said. We said our goodbyes and told him that we would see him later.
Once Dagur and I left Astrid's house we started to walk towards the Arena where our dragons were staying.
Hiccup's Pov:
Once Heather and Dagur had left I then went upstairs to Astrid and Thali. As I was walking up the stairs, I could hear singing coming from Astrid's room and I immediately knew it was Astrid singing. I never knew she could sing but she has a beautiful voice.
"Lavender blue, dilly-dilly
Lavender green
If I were king, dilly-dilly, I'd need a queen
Whoa-oh, who told me so?, dilly-dilly
Who told me so?
I told myself, dilly-dilly
I told me so"
I was just standing at the door listening to her sing, forgetting why I came up in the first place. I knocked on her door which caused her to stop singing. "You can come in, Hiccup." I faintly heard from the other side of the door.
I opened her door and stepped into her room. I saw that Astrid was in beside Thali stroking her cheek. "Are you alright Astrid?" I asked her as I walked towards her.
"I'm fine Hiccup." She answered as I sat down on the edge of her bed. "Astrid, I know you are not fine. I am also sorry about Heather and what she said is not true at all." I told her.
"But she is right Hiccup about everything. I am not Thalia's Mother and I will always be her stepmother. I don't even know how to raise a child or even to be a Mother." She said with tears in her eyes.
"Hey, hey. Don't talk like that Astrid. You have been doing fine with Thalia. I have seen how you treat her, and you treat her as if she was your own daughter and for that I thank you." I said as I wrapped an arm around her.
"You have shown her that you care and love her, and that is what it means to be a parent. I know how hard it is to be a parent. But we do this together." I added. She nodded and wiped the tears that leaked out away.
"Okay together." She said. I kissed her and she kissed me back. When I pulled away from her, I asked, "Are you feeling better now?"
"Yea. Thanks, Hiccup." She said with a smile on her face. "So, I did not know you could sing," I said. I watched as she blushed from embarrassment.
"I am not that good." She said looking down. "Well, I think your singing was beautiful. So what song was that you were singing just then?" I asked her.
"Yesterday Thali asked me if I could sing her to sleep so I did. That song was called Lavender Blue." She said. "Well, I think it was beautiful. Just like you." I said. "Hiccup I'm not…"
"Yes, you are. And your names does mean divine beauty literally." I said.
It was an hour later when I said, "I probably should wake her up. It is getting late and we should probably be getting back to the house before Dad and Mum start wondering where we are."
"Your right. I will wake her then." She said. I watched as Astrid shakes Thali gently to try and wake her up. "Thali come on Darling it is time to wake up." She said in a quiet voice.
It took a couple of minutes before Thali eventually woke up. "Mummy," Thali said as she rubbed her eyes. I couldn't believe what I heard. Thali called Astrid Mummy and that had made me so happy.
"Astrid did she just…"
"Yea she did. She started calling me Mummy after I came back up after my argument with Heather." She said. "Come on Kiddo wake up. We have to get home to Grandma and Grandad." I told my daughter.
Thali sat up and moved out of the blankets and over to me. I picked her up and placed her on my knee. "Will Mummy come with us, Daddy?" Thali asked me.
"Sorry Honey, But I won't be going with you and Daddy. You are spending the night with Daddy and you will see me tomorrow okay." Astrid told Thali. "But I want Mummy to come with us." Thali moaned.
I knew what was coming in a minute just hope she would not go there. "Thalia Mummy cannot come with us. This is her home and we have to go to our home. A home where Grandad lives." I explained to her.
"No, I want Mummy to come with us now." She cried. Thalia crawled off my knee and over to Astrid. Astrid took her in her arms and rocked her back and forth. "Thalia, you have to go with your Father okay? Daddy wants to spend some time with you tonight and you will see me tomorrow" Astrid told Thalia in a calm voice.
I watch as Thalia nods her head against Astrid's shoulder as she continued to cry. I tried to take Thali out off Astrid's arms so I could take her him, but she would not let me.
"How about I take her downstairs to the door then pass her over then," Astrid mentioned. I agree otherwise we were going to have a screaming match. Astrid stood up from the bed and started to head downstairs. I followed behind her.
When we got to the door Thali held onto Astrid tighter when I tried once again to take her from Astrid's arm. "You need to let go of Mummy, so you can go with your Father for the night and I will see you tomorrow. Alright." Astrid said to Thalia. She got Thali to relax her hold on her and pulled her away.
"I love you, Mummy," Thali mumbled to Astrid, but I still heard it. "I love you too Honey," Astrid said back then kissed her on the forehead before passing her to me.
Once I gathered Thali up in my arms I then kissed Astrid one last time for the night and we said our goodbyes then I left her house and started to head my Father's house with Thali still crying in my arms.
Stoick's Pov:
It was starting to get dark when we had finished with the base of the house. I was now on my way home to cook dinner for my wife and Son and Granddaughter.
When I walked into the house, I saw Hiccup already in the kitchen cooking dinner for us. "Evening Son," I said as I took my shoes off at the door. I looked up and saw my son's dragon curled up in front of the fire sleeping. He didn't even look up when I came through the door.
"Hi Dad, Dinner will be ready in a few minutes." Hiccup said. "Where is Thali?" I asked my Son. "She will be down soon. Mum is just giving her a bath." He said then turned to finish cooking Dinner.
10 minutes later Hiccup was plating up Dinner when Val came down the stairs carrying our Granddaughter he was wrapped up in her Grandma's arms while sucking her thumb.
"Hello Love, how long have you been back for?" My wife asked me as she sat down at the Dinner table. "Hello Dear. I arrived home about 10 minutes ago." I said as I made my way over to the Dinner table. I placed a kiss on Val's cheek as well as my Granddaughter's cheek.
Val and I haven't really seen Thalia these past couples of days as she was staying with Astrid while Hiccup was away. "So, son what is for dinner tonight. Whatever it is it smells divine." I said.
"Well, tonight is Yak chops with vegetables." Hiccup said. He placed our plates in front of us and once he sat down, we began to dig in. "This is a genuinely nice Son. Where did you learn to cook like this?" I asked him.
"Well, Hannah taught me while we were travelling around before we found an island to settle on." He explained. "I wish I had gotten the chance to met her," I stated to him. "So, do I Dad. You would have liked her a lot." He said. "I am sure I would have," I added.
"So, how was the discussion this afternoon with Heather and Dagur?" Val asked Hiccup. "It was good. They were just explaining what The Defender of the Wing's Healer said to them that is all." Hiccup said.
"What did their Healer say exactly?" I asked my Son. "Randi, the Defender of the Wing Healer said that this illness will keep coming back until there is a cure found. As there is no cure yet. The recipe that Randi gave Heather and Dagur will heal Thalia of this illness, but it also means that she could as get it again." He explained.
I did not know what to say so I just nodded and watched as my Granddaughter reached out for me to take her. I took Thalia from my wife and held her close to me as she laid her head on my shoulder. "I want Mummy, Daddy," Thalia said to Hiccup. 'Mummy' 'but isn't her mother dead' I thought.
"You will see her tomorrow Thalia. We discussed this at Astrid's house." Then I realised that she was meaning Astrid. "Hiccup when did she start calling Astrid Mummy?" Val asked our Son. "She started calling Astrid Mummy today. I was shocked when I heard it too, but then it made me incredibly happy that she realised that Astrid will be her Mummy from now on." He said.
"Well, that is good that she feels comfortable enough to call Astrid Mummy since you will be marrying her soon," I said to my Son. "Speaking of Marriage. When are you going to ask Astrid to Marry you Son?" I asked him.
"Well, I have to still make a ring first. Which I am hoping to find some time to do it sometime tomorrow, but I also have to train the gang to ride the dragons as well." Hiccup said.
"Well I can always train the others while you make the ring tomorrow Hiccup and Thalia can come with me to the arena and or we can leave her with Gothi," Val suggested to Hiccup.
"Thanks, Mum. Are you sure you will be able to handle the training? And I don't know how well Thali would go with being with Gothi alone either." He said.
"Hiccup you need to make that ring tomorrow and I will be fine training the others. Plus, you could always leave Toothless with Thali." Val said. At the mention of his name, he lifted his head to look at who said his name. Then he grumbled something before putting his head back onto his paws.
"What was that about?" I asked. "He is grumbling about being a babysitter tomorrow." Hiccup said. I nodded like I understood what was even going on. I then realised that Thalia had fallen asleep against me.
"I probably should get her to bed then I will be going to bed as well since I have been up since dawn so I could fly here." He said as he stood up. "Where will you sleep, we only have one bed in your room?" I asked him.
"I will put Thali in my bed, and I will sleep in Toothless wings." He said. "Oh, by the way, Dad, here is the blueprints for the house that I want to build. I designed it when I got home with Thali from Astrid's." He added passing me the blueprints. "Alright I will have a look at these and will get the boys to work on it tomorrow," I said.
Hiccup's Pov:
Once I took Thali from my Father I walked over to Toothless and gave him a nudge to wake him up. "Come on Toothless it is bedtime," I said to him. He grumbled a bit then stood up. "Night Mum, Dad," I said as I headed towards the stairs to my room.
"Night Son," They both said. Once I got to my room, I shut the door after Toothless came into the room and he went to a corner and curled up. I then place Thali in my bed and tucked her in. "Night Baby. Will see you in the morning." I said as I kissed her on the head.
I then walked over the big lizard and nudge him once one which causes him to grumble once again. "Come on Bud. I am going have to sleep in your wings tonight since Thali has my bed." I said in dragonised.
"Why can't you sleep on the floor instead of my wings" Toothless grumbled. "Because your wings are more comfortable than the floor. Now let me sleep in your wings." I said to him. "Fine."
Toothless open his wings so I could climb in and once I was settled he shut his wings around me and I was soon off to sleep.
