I Didn't Have A Choice-Ch 30
Over the next several months Penelope and Derek got settled in to their lives as husband and wife, her pregnancy continued normally until around her 7th month when she started developing high blood pressure, AKA pre-eclampsia. Derek took her immediately to her OB who, much to Penelopes arguments put her on bedrest until after the baby was born.
She tried everything she could to persuade her doctor not to do it but after a very long talk and telling her what could happen to both her and the baby if she didn't go on bedrest Penelope finally agreed, reluctantly. Penelope was still allowed to work from home but it was in the comfort of her nice, big, warm bed.
When Derek and the team were away on cases Fran and the girls would stay with her just to make sure that she didn't get up and do anything that she wasn't suppose to be doing. She was allowed to get up out of bed to go to the bathroom and walk a little around the room but nothing else.
One afternoon Penelope and Reid were alone and she looked at him and said, "boy wonder", he said, "yeah, is something wrong Garcia"?, Penelope said, "no my little genius, I just want to, well I want to talk to you, ask you a few questions". Reid nodded his head and sat down on the bed beside her and said, "okay, sure, ask away".
Penelope took one of his hands in hers and said, "I want you to be honest with me, is the baby alright"?, Reid gently squeezed her hand and said, "Garcia pre eclampsia happens to more than 3 million women a year in the U.S". She looked at him and listened as he continued to talk.
Reid said, "Tabby is doing everything she can to make sure that both you and the little one are okay and if she's afraid that the baby is in danger she will do a C-section and get the baby out as soon as possible". Penelope nodded her head and said, "do you think that the baby is okay"?, Reid said, "we check your blood pressure several times a day and so far it's doing good, a little high but still good".
He ran his thumb over her hand and said, "we all know that you hate being cooped up in this bed but you are almost 9 months along no so it won't be much longer". Penelope smiled and said, "I love you Spencer Reid", he laughed and said, "and I love you Penelope Garcia Morgan" causing her to grin.
She looked at him and said, "thank you for taking the time to talk to me, I appreciate it", Reid said, "do you feel better now"?, she said, "I do, I feel so much better, now do you think that maybe I can get up and go downstairs and have lunch with everybody"?, Reid said, "Garcia I would like nothing more than to help you downstairs but" and she said, "I know, I know I need to stay in bed and rest".
Reid grinned at her and said, "I know it's not easy having to stay in bed all of the time but soon you will be holding a little boy or girl in your arms, my little niece or nephew is counting on you to stay in bed and rest". Penelope looked at him and said, "you don't play fair do ya"?, he laughed and said, "nope, not when it's important like it is now I don't".
Derek walked into the room and said, "alright who's ready for a biggggggg surprise"?, Penelope said, "me, me, me", Derek walked over and leaned down and kissed her lips gently and said, "well momma I just happen to have a big surprise or several of them". She looked at him and said, "alright handsome, now you have this all seeing oracle very excited, so what are my surprises, come on angel fish, what are my surprises"?, he laughed and said, "alright, you can come in".
Her attention went to the bedroom door, she smiled as she watched all of her friends from Whisper Nebraska, Millie stepped forward and hugged her first and then after she was finished hugging everybody Millie said, "welcome to your surprise baby shower honey".
Penelope clapped her hands and laughed as Derek, Reid and Hotch carried seats in for the women to sit in and their gifts for Penelope and the baby. When everybody was sitting around the bed Fran said, "alright what's first, gifts or food"?, they all looked at Penelope and she said, "ohhh food, I'm starving".
Fran looked at Derek and Reid and said, "alright let's get this party started", Reid and Derek nodded their heads yes and walked out of the room, only to come back with food and drink for the women. Derek smiled at his wife and said, "enjoy your shower sweetness, we'll be downstairs if you need or want anything".
Penelope looked around and said, "thank you, thank you for this", Derek winked at her and said, "you can thank Emma, Jess, JJ and Emily for this, it was their idea". He then stepped out into the hall and said, "enjoy yourselves ladies" and pulled the door shut and as he started down the stairs behind Reid they couldn't help but smile as they heard Penelope laugh.
When they got downstairs Dave said, "alright since they hare having their party upstairs, how about we have our party downstairs"?, Derek said, "I love the way you think old man". Hotch put his hand on Dereks shoulder and said, "you better enjoy this time too Morgan because just as soon as that baby is born you're not going to have time for anything else".
Derek raised his beer bottle to his lips and said, "I'm looking forward to it Hotch, I can hardly wait", while the men were laughing and enjoying their time together in the living room the kids were all playing with Mudgie and Clooney in the den. It was the first time in a long time that the house was filled with laughter and soon the newest member of the family would be making his or her entrance, maybe even sooner than anybody thought.
