"You sure you don't mind coming?" Paul asked. He and Monica were together and walking down the streets.

"I'm fine, Paul. You and I are friends and there really shouldn't be any problems. Besides, it's not going to be just the two of us." Monica said as they entered a coffee shop. Once they went inside, they spotted Harris at a table already having some coffee. "Harris! Over here!"

"Hey!" Harris said as he was glad to see the two of them. It was just a normal friends get-together.

"Thanks for agreeing to come." Paul said.

"No problem. I needed a coffee break." Harris said. "Jessica would have come too, but someone has to watch the kids at her school. It's been a while since we hang and talked, Monica."

"Yeah. Sorry. Things have been a little crazy lately, but everything should be fine now." Monica said. "I'll place an order. You want anything, Paul?"

"Just a regular decaf for me." Paul said.

"Way to be creative." Monica said with some sarcasm as she went to the register.

"Looks like things are going well between you and Monica." Harris said. "There doesn't appear to be any awkwardness or anything."

"Yeah. Things between us have been well." Paul said. "Even though we're not dating anymore, it doesn't mean we still can't be friends and we're really making it work."

"Color me impressed." Harris said. "Most couples have a hard time being friends. Wait. You two aren't thinking of getting back together, are you?"

"No." Paul said. "Oh my god. Why does everyone want to keep talking about my relationships? We've got other friends with relationships. Why do we always talk about mine?"

"Because you're like New York's biggest celebrity. Everyone knows you're Spider-Man." Harris said. "You're like one of those celebrities in magazines that people like to read and follow. The public wants to know who is dating who and all that in the celebrity life."

"I never really understood the appeal of following that kind of stuff." Paul said. As they were talking, someone walked in the shop. A man that appeared to be in his early or mid-fifties that spotted Monica and got anxious. Monica grabbed the coffee and was going back to the guys, but she spotted the man and was shocked to her core.

"What are you doing here?" Monica said.

"Hi, Monica." The man said. Paul and Harris looked at what was happening and felt this might be trouble because Monica doesn't look happy. "It's great to see you. You look great." He took a step to her, but she stepped back.

"I asked what you're doing here." Monica said.

"I just came to see you." The man said, but Monica didn't appear to like that. Paul and Harris got up and Paul got ready to step in if he had to.

"What's going on here? Monica, do you know this guy?" Paul asked.

"Of course I do. He's my father." Monica said. Harris and Paul couldn't believe it for this is the first time they met her father. From everything Monica told them about him, she thought he was a lousy father that walked out on her and her mother.

"Hi. My name is Gilbert. You can call me Gil if you like. Monica, I don't blame you for not wanting to see me, but I only want to talk."

"You have nothing I want to hear." Monica said as she just walked out the place.

"She does know she took both cups of coffee, right?" Harris said. Paul was concerned about her and went after her.

"Monica, wait." Paul said as he stopped her from storming off. He took the coffee out of her hands and tried to get her to calm down. "Take it easy. That was really your father? You haven't seen him in years. Don't you want to talk to him?"

"I haven't seen him in years because of him." Monica said. "He walked out on my mother and me. Even before, he was a horrible father. I don't want anything to do with him."

"Monica, please." Gilbert said as he walked up to her with Harris. "Listen, I know I wasn't the best father when you were a kid. That's why I'm here. I'm here to make amends."

"NOW you decide to make amends?!" Monica said as she turned to him. "You left when I was a kid. Now, I'm out of college and a real reporter. You had all these years to try and make things right with me and you never did. So why now?"

"I know. I know I was a horrible father." Gilbert said. "Years after I left, I lost my job, my house, and everything. So I tried to put my life back together. I have a new job and I've been seeing a therapist. I've been seeing all kinds of experts that deal with crazy people like me. I even took medication for my problems for a while. I'm a better person and I want to make things right between you and your mother."

"I think you're a little late, you miserable bastard." Monica said as she walked away. Paul and Harris couldn't believe she actually had the guts to say that to her own father.

"I'm… I'm sorry about her. We've never seen her like that before." Harris said.

"I can't blame her for not wanting to talk to me." Gilbert said. This might be even worse, but it was a familiar scene to Paul and that's why he felt he had to do something.

"How about you let me go talk to her? She'll listen to me." Paul said.

"Who are you?" Gilbert asked.

"She's actually your daughter's ex-boyfriend and he's Spider-Man." Harris said with Gilbert being shocked that his daughter dated Spider-Man.

"Just let me handle this." Paul said as he hurried after Monica. None of them knew that someone else was watching this and it wasn't good.

Monica

Monica went all the way back to her apartment. She was so mad after seeing her good for nothing father. She didn't know what to do than trash her own apartment a little. Seeing him has brought back a lot of old memories.

"Monica, look what you did. This house is never clean because of you!"

"Daddy, I drew you this."

"Why would I want this garbage?" The ripping sound of that paper echoed in her head.

"Monica, will you just stay out of my way. Wife, where the hell is my beer?!" Monica had no good memory of her father. She feels like he even regrets having a child. Monica heard a knock on the door and stormed right over to it.

"I told you I don't want to see you!" Monica shouted as she opened it, but saw it was Paul.

"Wow. I know we broke up, but I don't remember it being that bad." Paul said.

"Paul… I'm sorry. I thought you were him." Monica said as she allowed Paul in. Paul saw a bit of a mess she made in her apartment.

"Are you okay? I don't think I've ever seen you like this." Paul asked.

"No, I'm not okay. I'm never okay when my father is around." Monica said. "Oh god. It's only the afternoon and I already want a drink badly."

"I remember you told me a few things about him." Paul said. "Your father must have been a real piece of work."

"You said it." Monica said. "I haven't seen or spoken to him in years. So he expects me to just forgive him like nothing even happened? Fat chance of that happening. He was always angry, always complaining, he was never there. That's why I try to avoid guys like him."

"I know. You told me that before." Paul said. "I guess it was actually was a good thing we broke up."

"No, Paul. Don't compare yourself to that man." Monica said. "That was different because of what we do. True, we haven't spent much time together, but you were there for me when I needed it. You were so much more than what my father is."

"You sure you're not going to do anything about him?" Paul said. "You have a chance to make things right, especially since he wants to."

"Why does it really matter to you?" Monica said as she didn't even want to talk about this.

"Just because we broke up doesn't mean I don't care about you as a person. I know what it's like." Paul said. "My dad and I didn't agree on somethings before he died. I acted like a real jerk to him. He died before I could really make things right with him. Do you want that?" Monica stayed silent as she wasn't sure how to answer that.

"Paul, I think I want to be alone right now." Monica said. "Please, just do that. Just leave me alone." Paul could see Monica was stressed out as it was with this whole thing.

"Just call if you need anything." Paul said as he let himself out. Monica started cleaning up her apartment now that she calmed down some and began to think of what she was going to do. Monica tried to clear her head some more with some work. She turned on her computer, but she saw she got an email from someone.

"Monica, meet me on top of the construction site in East Harlem." Monica had no idea what this was about, but a reporter never turns away from what could be a great story.

Paul

Paul really hoped Monica was going to be okay, but he's never seen her like this before. He can only hope she'll be able to make it through this. As he was walking through the streets, he heard his phone and he saw that he had some missed messages.

"Harris has been trying to reach me. I was so concerned about Monica that I never even heard my phone." Paul said. He answered this time. "Hey, Harris. Sorry I didn't get back to you."

"Paul! Finally! Something has happened!" Harris said. "I was on my to my classes when you and Monica left and it happened."

"What happened?" Paul questioned as this didn't sound good.

…...

Monica

Monica made her way to that construction site in Harlem. Monica was careful that no one would see her since she's probably not around in there. Monica got in and rode an elevator up to the top. She arrived and saw no sign of anyone around.

"Hello? Someone contacted me and wanted to see me." Monica said.

"Hey, Mony."

"Oh no." Monica said as she knew that voice. She felt some wind blow behind her and spotted Hurricane. "Noah. I should have known. What's it going to take for you to understand that I want nothing to do with you?"

"I'm not here to force myself on you." Hurricane said. "I'm actually here to give you something I know you're going to like."

"What are you talking about?" Monica said. He held out his hand to show her. She followed the hand and was scared of what she saw.

"Dad?!" Monica said. She saw her father suspended in the air by a crane and he looked badly beaten with fresh blood on him. "Oh my god! What did you do to him?!"

"I remember you saying a bunch of stuff about your father and how you hated him." Hurricane said.

"Most of it was because you reminded me of him." Monica said.

"Well, I'm giving you the chance to get back at him. I saw you at the coffee shop with him. After you left, I brought him here and roughed him up for you. Now you can have payback." Hurricane said. "You can hurt him like he's always hurt you."

"No. Not like this." Monica said. "This isn't what I wanted. Let him go. Dad! Dad! Can you hear me?!" Gilbert was starting to wake up and saw his daughter.

"Monica? What's going on?" Gilbert questioned.

"This is your chance." Hurricane said. "I'm giving you a great chance to have your revenge on him."

"Not like this. You're even crazier than him." Monica said.

"Come on, Monica. I'm only trying to help you out." Hurricane said as he reached out to her, but some webbing land on his hand and was pulled. They spotted Paul with him lowing Gilbert to the floor.

"You don't mind sharing the numbers of your doctors with him, do you? He needs it." Paul said.

"Why do you always have to ruin everything with her? She's not yours anymore!" Hurricane said as he shot some wind at him and Paul avoided the attacks.

"Why do people keep coming back to this?" Paul said as he avoided his attacks. "We dated, we broke up, and we're friends now. It's as simple as that."

"I'm going to crush you like the bug you are!" Hurricane said as he unleashed a strong force of wind. Monica was blown back from it and went over the edge. Monica grabbed on and was holding on for dear life.

"Monica!" Paul called as he hurried to save her.

"Not this time!" Hurricane said as he flew at Paul and tackled him with those two fighting it out. Monica was hanging on for life, but she could feel her grip slipping.

"Why does this keep happening to me?" Monica said. She thought she was going to fall, but felt someone grab her arm. She looked up and was surprised to see it was her father. Monica looked at his shoulder and saw blood was seeping through his shirt and down his arm "Dad, what are you doing? You're hurt. You can't pull me up."

"I'm not letting you go like this." Gilbert said as he tried to pull her up despite how hurt he was. "You can do it, Monica. Try and pull yourself up." Monica was actually impressed with her father encouraging her. Monica did what she should and she was able to climb back up.

"Thanks, Dad." Monica said. It felt so weird to her to say that.

"Monica!" Paul called as he swung over and landed down. "You okay?"

"Yeah, but my dad should see a doctor. What happened to Hurricane?" Monica asked.

"Slipped away. At least you're safe. Let's get out of here." Paul said as he helped the two to safety.

The Next Day

Gilbert saw a doctor and he was going to recover. He also asked for another chance to talk to Monica at the hospital. He waited in his room for her, but she was hesitant to go in. Paul walked over to encourage her.

"You okay?" Paul asked.

"I'm nervous." Monica said. "I don't even know what to say or how to say it. I really thought I never see or talk to him. However, after what happened, I really thought that was going to happen and I was actually frightened."

"Of course. He's your father." Paul said.

"That still doesn't mean I want to see or talk to him. I can't just forgive all that he was." Monica said.

"No, Monica. I'm never going to see my dad again." Paul said. "You still have a chance to make things right. Don't make the same mistake I did." Monica could see Paul was right and went on inside.

"Hey, Dad. The doctors say you're going to be okay. They just want to make sure you recover well." Monica said.

"I can walk it off." Gilbert joked, but got serious. "Monica, I know I was a horrible father to you in the past. It took me years to recover and to really change. I am so sorry for everything that I did to you. If you could at least not hate me, it would be a good star and we can try and work from there."

"After seeing what you did, it's hard to hate you." Monica said. "You risked your arm coming off to save my life. I believe you're sorry now. Maybe you have changed, but I don't know if I can really forgive you. You were so awful to me. I guess I should be lucky I had Mom to help me through all of it. Otherwise I would have ended up as some sort of messed up girl constantly making bad choices. I don't know if I can ever really forgive you. It's going to take a long time to and I don't need a father as much in my life anymore since I've had great friends in it and I have a great job. I've been doing fine without you and I think I'll continue to do so, but I really do appreciate that you made the effort to." Monica walked out of there after that and Gilbert was upset it wasn't the result he wasn't exactly hoping for. Monica hasn't fully forgiven her father, maybe she never will, but at least she's open to the idea. Monica went past Paul and he went after her. Monica made it out of the hospital with teary eyes.

"Monica!" Paul called and got her attention. "Look, I know that was hard for you. So I'm here if you need it." Broken up or not, Monica practically slammed against Paul as she cried in his chest, letting out everything she's held for so many years. Paul held her and let her to continue to do so. Monica still had one good man in her life.
