Chapter Thirty: Going Public
So, I decided to update twice in one day because I just wrote this chapter and am very impatient to post it! There's a Descendants reference in this chapter. If you can catch it, tell me in a review and I'll tell you if you're right in my next chapter.
IMPORTANT: I need to make sure that I make something clear before this chapter. Raven, Apple, Darling, Cerise, Briar, Maddie, Daring, Dexter, Hopper, Izzy, Zoe, Eve, Jacob, Alex, Kyle, and Michel have all seen the shadow figure, but I just got tired of writing every sighting in. If I had, I may have had to write some extra chapters with no reason behind them or even any importance to the story. So, please just put it in your head that they've all seen it, but figured it was their imagination or something. Thank you.
Cerise and Daring walked into Dexter and Hunter's dorm room, where Dex and Raven were already sitting on the bed. It was a week after the whole Roses of the Seasons adventure, and they had chosen to meet in Dexter's room because it was the best option.
If Apple had seen them, she would have had a total freak-out because of Dexter and Raven. Well, maybe not a freak-out, but she still wouldn't have reacted in the best way.
If Cedar saw them, well it was game over for everyone since if anyone asked anything, she would be forced to tell the truth. And the group wanted to be the ones who told everyone.
If Hopper saw them, they didn't quite know how he would react, and were going with better safe than sorry.
Dexter's room was the best option because Hunter was out with Ashlynn at the moment, but even if he got back early, they knew he would be understanding because he had been in his own secret relationship with a Royal only a few short months ago.
Anyways, the other couple sat down on the bed, and Daring asked, "So, how should we do it?"
They all thought for a moment. They'd known for a couple weeks that they wanted to go public soon, and decided it was time now that people had gotten used to Daring and Apple acting awkward and avoiding each other in the hallways. There had been one particularly awkward encounter a few days ago where Apple had slipped and Daring helped her up, neither of them noticing it was the other. When they saw who they were talking too, they basically both turned and ran away (And to answer your question, no. She hasn't forgiven him).
"Well," Cerise suggested. "I guess we just walk out there and act like two couples."
"Actually," Raven said with a grin. "I think I have another idea."
Blondie was walking down the hall, heading to her dorm, when the door to Dexter and Hunter's dorm was opened and Daring poked his head out and said, "Blondie, can you come in here?"
A bit confused, Blondie followed, and saw Cerise, Raven, and Dexter were also in the room. This seemed like an odd group, and Blondie asked, "What's happening?"
In answer, Raven smiled and said, "Well, how do you feel about some new news for your mirrorcast?"
Everyone in the school was watching Blondie's mirrorcast, and they were in for a big surprise.
"Breaking news!" Blondie said. "A few months ago, the relationship between Hunter Huntsman and Ashlynn Ella was exposed, and now it appears we have two more Royal-Rebel relationships on our hands!
"This morning, I was pulled into a dorm room. Inside, two couples told me that they needed a little boast to tell everyone about their relationships. There is one new one, and one that's been a secret for a while. Everyone, introducing our new Ever After couples, Raven and Dexter, and Daring and Cerise!"
"What?" Apple asked Briar and Ashlynn, her eyes widening.
"I know, I'm pretty surprised that Daring and Cerise are together too!" Briar said, taking the mirrorpad and looking at it as though it would reveal some explanation.
"What? No, I knew about that. But I can't believe Raven and Dexter are a couple!" Apple exclaimed, standing up.
"Really? It was kind of obvious that they liked each other," Ashlynn said.
Apple froze. "But I didn't see it! And Raven is one of my best friends and my roommate!"
"Well, to be fair, they started liking each other back when you were still all for us all completely following our destinies. You probably decided to ignore it, and have kept on doing that," Briar suggested logically.
Apple nodded, still upset. It wasn't the fact that Dexter and Raven were together that bothered her - in fact, it made her happy. There was no one more deserving of a happy ending than Raven. No, it was that she hadn't noticed Raven and Dexter liked each other.
She couldn't help but ask herself, What kind of a friend am I?
Darling laughed with joy when she saw the mirrorcast.
"Yes!" she laughed. Dex had told her about him and Raven, and she had been able to tell Cerise and Daring were secretly together. I mean, come on! She was his sister, she'd been there for most of his life!
But even though she was happy for her brothers, Darling couldn't help the small stab of pain she felt at seeing them have happy relationships.
She sighed. It didn't matter. Apple had been her crush, but she didn't want to be with someone who only wanted to be with her because of "destiny."
Besides, she refused to have her heart broken again.
Cerise and Daring had walked through the school just acting like a normal couple, and Cerise had to say she loved it. They didn't have anything to hide anymore (well, except how long they'd really been together). It felt kind of like when she started wearing her hood down, showing off her wolf ears.
She and Daring walked into the castleteria with his arm around her. They got their food and sat down at a table, talking cheerfully.
However, Cerise heard a Royal girl at the table next to them scoff, "Who's she kidding? Daring is soon-to-be King Charming. He's never going to make a Rebel his Queen! This is definitely just some fling to help him get over Apple."
Daring saw Cerise's hand tighten on the knife she was using to cut some meat, and it suddenly seemed dangerously sharp.
"Hey," he said softly, resting a hand on her other one. "Ignore her. They don't know anything about us."
Cerise smiled at him, but he still saw her shoot a look of anger at the girl.
They finished their food, and Cerise said, "You wanna go play bookball? I feel like beating you again."
"Hey, you never know - I could win," Daring said, making Cerise snort, but she was smiling.
"When pigs fly."
"Well...this is Ever After High. You never know," he said, making her laugh and take his hand.
"Let's go!" Cerise said cheerfully.
That night, Raven, Apple, Darling, Cerise, Briar, Maddie, Izzy, Zoe, Eve, and Amanda were all in Raven and Apple's room for a sleepover. They were laying on the ground on their sleeping bags wearing PJs and talking.
"Let's play Truth or Dare!" Briar said with a smile.
"Oh no," Apple joked. "We're in trouble!"
"Okay, Apple, truth or dare?"
"Hmm...dare."
Briar smiled evilly. "I dare you to burn all your makeup."
"You know we have fire alarms in here, right?" Cerise asked, amused.
Briar pouted. "Fine. Then I dare you to throw one piece of that evil furniture you bought for Raven pit of the window."
"I vote for the evil mirror!" Raven said.
Apple sighed. "Fine."
She walked up to the wall and pulled the mirror off the wall. She stood at the window and closed her eyes before throwing it down. They all waited for the crash, but it never came.
Apple peaked over and saw, to her surprise, that the mirror had landed in the bushes under the window.
"It landed in the bushes," Apple said.
The others all just shrugged and brushed it off, but Apple frowned. When she threw the mirror, she threw it forward, not straight down. The bushes couldn't have caught it...
"Apple?" Raven asked. "You okay?"
Apple smiled, trying to forget it.
"I'm fine. Okay, Raven, truth or dare?"
"Truth," Raven answered.
"What was your first date with Dexter like?"
Raven blushed slightly and said, "Well, we had a picnic by the lake. At first it was kind of awkward, but then we started talking and it was really fun. At the end of the date we kissed."
This wasn't how she'd first told it, but Zoe thought that was just because they didn't really need a super long story this time.
"Okay, who wants to go next?"
"Guys, I need to go to the restroom. I'll be back in a moment," Amanda said. They all nodded, and she got up and walked to the restroom.
She poured some water into her hands and cleaned her face with it. She had just wanted to get away from the game. It just...didn't feel right to be celebrating on this day. But she had to act normal.
She sighed and looked up, freezing in horror when she saw the reflection in the mirror. It was a shadow figure, but that was the scary thing.
The figure waved, and Amanda spun around, her breathing becoming faster and faster as she realized it was gone.
She stumbled out of the bathroom, her face white as a sheet. The others all looked up and hurried over to her when they saw her face.
"Amanda, what's wrong?" Raven asked, sounding worried.
Amanda looked up at them all, her dark blue eyes filled with shock
"Get the boys," she said. "I have something very important to tell you all."
So, I basically decided to be a bit more evil and leave you on this cliffhanger. I bet you love me right now.
Please review and tell me how you felt about this chapter, and what you think is wrong with Amanda and what the day is. And what you think happened to Darling?
