A while back, I received a prompt in one of the comments on AO3 (where these are cross-posted, if you didn't already know that). It took me a bit, but I finally got around to writing it. Thanks for the prompt, basingtei!

Not Like This

Blood stained her hands.

"Stay with me."

Crimson and bright and wrong.

"Erend, stay with me."

Too much blood. She knew that, knew he could only lose so much.

"Look at me. You need to stay awake."

Grey eyes, the color of storms and the fine ash left in the forge, now turned dull and glazed. Too much red.

"You survived the liberation of Meridian, you survived Hades, you can't die on me, Erend. Not like this."

It hadn't been anything. Just a handful of Shadow Carja unwilling to accept defeat and attempting to assassinate Avad. Their plan was sloppy and ill-conceived, their intent telegraphed before they actually pulled their weapons. In a matter of minutes, the threat was eliminated and the aggressors either dead or surrendered.

But in the chaos and subsequent relief, she hadn't seen the knife.

Erend's breath hitched. "Avad?"

"You kept him safe, like you always do." His eyes slipped shut. "Stay with me. I still owe you those two minutes, remember?"

Erend breathed out a short, painful laugh. "Never owed me anything, Aloy."

She called his name, but his eyes wouldn't open. Blood stained her hands.

"Stay with me."

Crimson and bright and wrong.

"Please, Erend. Not like this."

Not like this.

Seriously, if you guys come across a prompt you like or think is cool, pop it in the comments. No promises on whether I'll actually write something or not, but I will at the very least add it to my prompt lists.
