Not much happens for the rest of the day, Carr stays in her office and doesn't come out of her office for most of it. I really think Carr and I would get along if she would stop trying to put her 'psychology process' above the lives that these monsters have affected. I don't really think she understands that no one wants to answer the questionnaire, so we have to get whatever information, however we can. I get to the office a bit earlier than everyone else, apologizing to Carr as she comes through, she apologizes as well, but I can tell she is unhappy that we don't stick to her questionnaire. It isn't long before Ford comes in and sits a cup of coffee on my desk, "your favorite." I look to Ford and chuckle as he smirks, "Quantico Blend."

"Thank you."

Ford sits down at his desk and looks over to me as if he just realized something, "the mom."

"I'm sorry what?"

"The mom and the shoes. Something happened there."

I nod, "Clearly."

"What was it?" Ford slightly tilts his head. "Her reaction?"

"The force of it. Burning the shoes seared them into his mind as something that's forbidden. So they became part of his fantasy. Then when his teacher had a completely different reaction then his mother, it caused him to get two completely different messages from two adult women about his impulses."

"But Brudos said he was attracted to women's shoes before all of that. He took the stilettos from the dump when he was five."

"I'm probably going to sound like Wendy here, but did you know not everyone agrees with Freud's theories on sexuality, but he did hit upon how young we are when we start to form preferences. Now most of that is based around authority figures and those we look up to and love when we are young."

"So when did that come in? How did it get tied into his sexuality?"

"Well, was there a point someone could have… intervened? All vaid questions."

Ford nods, "I want the right answers."

"Don't we all." I chuckle softly.

Ford looks over to me and takes a deep breath, "I'm glad you're here."

"Well…" I shrug my shoulders, "where else would I be?"

Ford and I get started converting some transcripts from the two Brudos tapes, since we did the two interviews so close together we didn't have time to type up the first one before we went back. We work for a little while, an hour maybe two, before Tench comes in. When he does, Ford and I pause our tapes and take off the headphones, Ford looks up to Tench, "Hey, Bill. We've been thinking about another angle with Brudos. Remember what Wendy said about deflecting responsibility?"

"Save it." Tench puts a hand up. As soon as he sits down, Tench makes a phone call, "May I speak with Detective McGraw? This is Bill Tench with the FBI. Yes. Ask him to look at the photos from the Ada Jeffries case. That's right. Tell him to look at the knots that were used to tie her up. They're nautical and Fairfield is landlocked. Thank you."

"You're back on Fairfield?"

"We said we'd take a look."

"Are you sure there's still something…."

Tench cuts him off, "Holden, leave me alone.

"Somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed." As Ford makes his little joke, I toss a paper clip at him to get him to shut up.

As Ford and I go back to the transcripts, Carr comes out of her office and leans against Tench's desk. One thing I do hear from Tench is, "They're fucking immue, how do I tape into that?"

Nothing exciting happens that day, we work on transcripts, and look into some cases Tench had mentioned that we'd look into, calling some of the local departments, giving what advice we can from the files we have on hand. When we go to lunch, Ford talks about how Debbie is almost done with midterms and he is excited because she won't be under so much stress. I always forget that she is in college.
