When the crisis subsided, we accounted for no loss on our part. Stallins would need a brace for a few days, but nothing I couldn't fix. One rookie was in shock while the other was missing.

All said and done, we only left the scene almost at night. There was plenty of work to do, but only two suspects were alive to interrogate.

I blamed Kai.

Coffee cup in hand, I approached the bullet-ridden, accordion compacted mess that used to be Ron's car. I handed over the black elixir and gave him a pat in the back.
-"Margaret never liked the colour."

Karrin joined us after dealing with the Commisioner.
-"The boss thinks we are dirty because some random criminal shot who was shooting us."

I eyed Ron meaningfully.
He sipped his coffee and raised an eyebrow.

Karrin saw the byplay and her eyes were set ablaze.
-"If you aaaare dirty-" She growled. -" I will shot you myself."

Ron eyed her with total nonchalance, as if she didn't place her hand over her weapon.
-"Your call, Harry."

I eyed him.
-"Not sure if she is ready to know."

Karrin got into my face, gripping my shirt.
-"No goddamned secrets." She pointed to her abdomen. "Or do you forget?"

I acquiesced.
-"When I opened my clinic, years ago, there was this fellow… He spoke about a comatose girl."

Karrin directed her eyes to Ron.
-"You know. Who is he talking about?"

Ron approached her and whispered a name in her ear.

Karrin's grip on my clothes sagged.
-"Just my luck. Get pregnant with the capo's protegée."
