Here is another chapter update for y'all.
There are no warnings for this one. These characters are not mine, I am just playing around with them. Enjoy!
"Ya' seem like you're in a good mood today, Blast-mech" Jazz observed casually as he tilted his chair back onto its hind legs.
"Do I?" Blaster grinned over his cube of midgrade energon. As usual, Jazz had prepared his ration exactly how he liked it. As he so often did, Blaster considered that Jazz would make an excellent bartender in another life.
Jazz hummed as he sipped from his cube, then he elaborated, "at least, ya' look like yer' in a better mood than ya' were last time we drank together".
Blaster laughed awkwardly as he recalled his last drink with Jazz. The image of his tearful faceplates slumped against the top of Jazz's desk came to mind. "Yeah," he mumbled, "that wasn't my best moment". Jazz shrugged casually. "Thanks for that… by the way" Blaster said in a softer tone, "you're a good friend, Jazz".
Jazz grinned and shook his helm, "aww, you don't have to thank me, Blast-mech. I'm just glad yer' feelin' better". He watched as Blaster gave him an appreciative smile, then decided to prod at the subject, now that it had been (almost) brought up. "Speaking of ol' Sounders… How're things between you two since… ya' know?". Jazz softened his words at the end, just in case Blaster was still sore over the recent rejection.
"Well, actually" Blaster tilted his helm with a slight grin, "I was meaning to bring that up during our chat today".
"Oh?" Jazz leaned forward over the desk. His optics narrowed down on his friend as Blaster kept that coy smile on his faceplates. When Blaster continued to withhold the newest gossip, Jazz prompted, "go on".
"Well… 'Wave and I got to talking about the whole thing, a few days ago" Blaster leaned back in his seat with an air a satisfaction, "and we decided to spend a little more quality time together for an evening just to feel things out".
"uh-huh" Jazz leaned deeper over the desk until the edge of it jabbed uncomfortably into his frame.
"Long story short," Blaster concluded, "'Wave and I are an item now". The orange boombox jerked in his seat as Jazz's fists instantly came down onto the desk.
"I knew it!" Jazz howled. Somehow, the saboteur had jumped up from his seat without Blaster even seeing the movement. His chair was halfway across the room laying on its side.
Blaster laughed as the smaller mech practically climbed over the desk, "I knew it! I knew I saw something between ya' two at the meetin' with Screamer last night! I knew it!". The black and white mech threw himself across the rest of the desk to pull Blaster into a shockingly tight hug. Blaster laughed in both entertainment and astonishment at Jazz's reaction. Before he knew what had happened, the cube of midgrade had been swiped from his servo and replaced with Jazz's servo. Blaster laughed even more as Jazz urgently shook his servo in congratulations.
"Why didn't ya' tell me as soon as ya' walked in the door?" Jazz gushed "we've been drinking this slag the whole time!" He made quick work of pushing aside both of their energon cubes before disappearing into the next room over.
Blaster continued to laugh quietly to himself as he heard Jazz's excited rummaging from the other room. His friend was still shouting out his enthusiasm, but it was impossible to hear over his fumbling and the muffle of the walls.
Just as quickly as he had disappeared into the other room, Jazz hurried back out with his servos clinging tightly to a bottle of high-grade. The tirade of his voice continued, now with Blaster able to understand it.
"I knew you were up ta' somethin' when you came askin' for all those romancing things! The high grade, the flowers, the candles… I fraggin' knew you were makin' yer move!" Jazz babbled as he doled out the highgrade between them.
Blaster grinned and murmured his thanks as Jazz handed the cube to him, still talking.
"Ya' gotta tell me everything! What did ya' do? Did ya' surprise him? How did ya' woo him! I want all the details" Jazz finally concluded his tirade as he threw himself in his seat and held up his cube, "but first… cheers, Blastmech. I'm happy for ya' and I have a feelin' that this is the real deal".
Blaster tipped his cube up and let it clink against Jazz's. "Thanks, Mech. You're the best".
Jazz smiled and rested his chin in his servo, "I know" he purred, then he took a drink.
It didn't take long for Blaster to re-count the story to Jazz. Every detail of the night was still engraved in the center front of his processor, as if he had just experienced it a moment ago. If he closed his optics, he could still see the way Soundwave tilted his helm up to the moonlight; the warm glow of his optics fighting with the cool light of the moon. Blaster had a feeling that those memories were always going to remain just as fresh.
Jazz listened intently to Blaster's re-telling of his recent romance. The saboteur was a sucker for a sappy story, and Blaster's had lots and lots of sap. He leaned over his desk and supported himself up on his elbows and comfortably cradled his chin in a cupped servo. As Blaster concluded, Jazz grinned and clucked his glossa.
"I always knew you were a big softie" Jazz teased.
Blaster laughed and shrugged, "can ya' blame me?".
"Only if I was the biggest hypocrite in the universe".
Both mechs laughed.
"I'm happy for ya', Blastmech" Jazz's optics softened, "real happy for ya'. You both deserve lots a' happiness together, and I have a feelin' that that's exactly what yer' gonna' get".
Blaster ducked his helm with a smile, "thank so?"
"absolutely" Jazz took another sip from his cube, "I just know it".
Instantaneously, Jazz's visor blew bright, almost white. He slammed his cube down on the desk, then jerked across the table and slapped his servos, palm down, on the table in front of Blaster. "Double date!" he shrieked.
Blaster jerked back, then laughed uproariously. "I dunno', mech, 'Wave is pretty shy about public affection of any kind… even just around our cassettes".
"Awww come on, mech!" Jazz whined as he slumped back into his seat, "I'm not askin' you two to get up on a table and make-out for Prowl and I". The saboteur paused and scratched his chin in consideration for a moment, "although… Prowl and I do have our anniversary comin' up soon… in case ya' can't think of any gift ideas".
Blaster snorted, "no".
Jazz snickered before continuing, "all I propose is a simple lil' movie date night. That's not so bad, right? I promise that Prowl and I will be on our best behaviour". He traced his finger in an 'X' over his chestplates.
Blaster smiled and thought for a moment, "I'll bring it up with 'Wave and see how he feels… I have a feeling he'll be interested".
Jazz pumped his servos in the air in excitement. In the spur of the moment, he reached across the desk again to deliver a few sturdy pats to Blaster's shoulder. "I'm proud of you, Blastmech. I'm happy for ya'".
Blaster couldn't keep the huge smile off of his faceplates if he tried.
When Blaster got back to his shared quarters, he was greeted by a lone Soundwave. The telepath was perched comfortably on the couch. A blanket had been thrown over his lap and quiet music tinkled in the background.
"The cassettes have already gone to berth for the night" Soundwave looked up from his datapad as Blaster closed the door behind himself. "It appears as though they have all lain claim upon my berth" he nodded his crested helm towards his old room, "I hope you don't mind if I share your berth again tonight".
"Wouldn't have it any other way" Blaster grinned as he leaned in to peck a kiss from Soundwave. The telepath tilted back his helm, his optics flickered dimly as he leaned in to prompt a few more kisses. Blaster had to refrain from purring.
"Go take a look" Soundwave urged; his voice had softened from Blaster's ministrations.
Blaster slipped down the hallway to their quarters and peered through the door to Soundwave's old quarters. Sure enough, Soundwave's berth was dominated by a pile of cassettes. The ten of them spread out from the head to the very foot of the bed. Blaster grinned at the familiar comfort that seeped from the scene. It took a lot of self-will to not take a picture.
"Sweet, isn't it?" Soundwave's voice murmured from over his shoulder.
Blaster suppressed a jolt and turned to smile at his boyfriend. Primus, he could be so quiet sometimes.
"Too cute for their own good" Blaster shook his helm fondly as the carriers re-entered the living room.
"I know" hummed Soundwave.
Blaster flopped down on the couch, then draped his servo over the back cushion and patted the spot for Soundwave.
The telepath smiled, then slipped into the spot next to Blaster. He rested his helm on Blaster's shoulder and felt a familiar orange arm drape over his back. Soundwave let out a satisfied sigh and nuzzled into Blaster's warmth.
"How did your visit with Jazz go?" he murmured into Blaster's shoulder.
"Really well" Blaster hummed, then smiled, "he was so excited about us being together… kept yelling that he knew it was gonna' happen". He could feel the soft vibration as Soundwave laughed against his plating. "Actually, he asked if we would be interested in a double date" Blaster recounted, then glanced at his partner. Soundwave blinked up at him in confusion.
"oh, right…" Blaster chuckled, "double dating is a human thing, but it's so cute that a few of us have picked it up across the Ark". He ran a soothing servo along Soundwave's backstruts and watched as his amber optics flickered in satisfaction. "Basically, it's when two couples go on the same date together, at the same time. Jazz suggested a movie night. So Prowl, Jazz, you, and I would go watch a movie together… kinda' like any other date, but with another couple present. That way we can have fun together as friends and also have a date night, in one go".
Soundwave hummed with though, his optics remained dim for a moment. "That sounds like it could be pleasant" he murmured.
"Think so?"
Soundwave hummed his affirmation.
"Alright, it's a date then" Blaster grinned.
Suddenly, Soundwave sat up from Blaster's embrace. "Yes, it is a date. However, after this one, it is my turn to plan the next one… just for the two of us".
"I won't argue that" Blaster opened his arm back up as Soundwave snuggled back in, "although, I don't think you can beat the one I planned" he teased. He felt as Soundwave scoffed against him.
"I will make you eat those words" Soundwave mumbled hazily; his optics flickered almost off.
Blaster snorted and tightened his arm around his boyfriend, "that has got to be the least intimidating threat I've ever received". He watched as Soundwave's lips curved into another small smile.
Suddenly, Soundwave's optics flickered back online as he perked back up. "This is a good song" he said.
Blaster reached for the remote and turned up the volume from the couch. He grinned as soon as he recognized Elvis Presley's voice singing 'Can't Help Falling in Love'.
"Like this song, do ya?" he turned to Soundwave, who nodded. Blaster thought for a moment, then offered out an open servo.
Soundwave's optics flickered to the offered servo, then back up at Blaster.
"Want to dance?" Blaster offered with a shy grin. Soundwave immediately nodded and took the servo. He followed Blaster up to his peds and smiled as Blaster pulled him into a close embrace. Soundwave leaned in to rest his helm on Blaster's shoulder as they swayed slowly to the music. He couldn't hide the smile and blush as Blaster crooned some of the words to him, so he elected to bury his faceplates into Blaster's neck.
Blaster chuckled softly and let his helm rest lightly on the top of Soundwave's helm. He hummed the song lowly as they swayed. It was impossible to be unsatisfied with Soundwave's warm presence wrapped up in his arms. As the song concluded, and Soundwave peered up from Blaster's shoulder, Blaster pressed a sweet kiss to his partner's lips. Soundwave sighed contently and leaned in for more.
Neither mech even thought about pulling away as the next song started to play.
