Emma drove back to her hotel with the music playing, just as she had for the past several days. However, this morning she was not singing along or swaying to whatever song played. She was nervous. Emma had not had to say good-bye too many times in her life. She had never moved homes. None of her relatives had passed away in her lifetime. And Emma had had the same group of close friends since middle school. She could think of few occasions where a friend of her's moved. But none of her friends who had moved were as close to Emma as Ross had become.
Once Emma arrived at her hotel, she quickly headed for her room. Just as she had remembered, Emma's clothes still remained scattered throughout the room. Emma decided to first get ready for the day. She brushed her teeth and soaked her curly hair. She decided she would let it air dry to save on time. Emma chose a cute outfit of a nice white top and tan shorts. Once Emma was finished getting ready, she tossed articles of clothing into her suitcase until everything she had brought with her was crammed into the suitcase. Emma managed to zip up her suitcase, then took a long sigh of relief. She looked around at her room. 'I just can't believe everything that has happened to me in these past few days.' Emma thought. 'It's going to be so weird going back to my normal life. Seeing my family and going back to school. That feels like it was so long ago.' Emma could not help but think of the times Ross had been in her room. She began to smile. 'I'm sad to leave Ross, but I'm so glad I was able to meet him.' With one last glance, Emma headed out of her room. She checked out of the hotel, then stopped at the hotel's cafe before leaving. She knew she would need a sweet coffee drink to keep her smiling.
Each moment spent driving to the studio where Austin and Ally was shot at was one more moment that Emma would not be able to spend saying good-bye to her friends. Emma began to think it would be easiest if she did not go to the studio at all. 'That's ridiculous.' Emma reminded herself. 'I promised to my friends that I'd be there. I have to say good-bye, no matter how difficult it is.' As Emma drove closer and closer, she felt her body begin to shake. Her hands became tighter on the steering wheel as she drove through a yellow light. 'I wish I would have stopped so I could sit there during that red light.' Emma thought. 'This is moving too quickly. I'm not ready to say good-bye.'
When Emma finally arrived at the studio, she realized that she needed to calm herself down. She took a few long, deep breaths as she sat in her car. Then she spotted Samantha, who was getting out of a taxi with a couple of suitcases. Rocky was already at the studio, and came outside as the taxi had pulled up. Emma saw Rocky smile at Samantha. Rocky took Samantha's suitcases, then Samantha went inside the studio. Rocky took the suitcases to a car which Emma assumed was his. 'He must be driving Samantha to the airport. That's sweet.' Emma thought. She had before thought that Samantha and Rocky's relationship only seemed to be a lot of kissing and not much conversation. But Emma could see that the two cared about each other. Emma began to wish Ross could come with her to the airport, but she knew that once she and Samantha left, the Austin and Ally crew and cast would get back to work on an episode. Emma was getting ready to go inside when someone knocked on her window. Emma looked up to see Rocky. 'He must have seen me sitting here. He probably thinks I'm crazy.' Emma thought.
"Hey." Emma said when she got out of the car. "Hey." Rocky said with a smile. "You okay?" He asked her. Emma smiled. "Just nervous." Emma admitted. "I'm not ready to go home." Rocky gave Emma a friendly hug. "Trust me, I'm not ready for you guys to leave either." Rocky told Emma. When she looked into Rocky's eyes, she could see that he was sad, despite the smile on his face. "I've never seen Ross like how he was acting this morning. He's really sad, too." Emma felt horrible. She decided that she needed to be positive when she saw Ross. Maybe the good-bye would not hurt so much if she could try to act positive. As Rocky and Emma began to go inside, Rocky turned to Emma. "Promise me that you'll keep in touch with my brother, okay?" Emma looked at Rocky. She knew he and Ross could be pretty goofy when they were together, and they were probably just like good friends. "I promise." Emma told him.
Emma entered the studio. She saw everyone; Laura, Raini, Noah, the Lynch family. And there was Ross. He was talking to the show's director. Ross appeared to look surprising normal. Maybe he was trying to stay positive, just like Emma. Or perhaps he was so focused on the show that he'd only say a quick good-bye to Emma. 'A quick good-bye would be much less painful.' Emma began to think. Laura and Raini spotted Emma first. They quickly ran up to Emma and hugged her. "We're going to miss you so much!" Raini exclaimed. "I wish we could have hung out more. Okay, I'm going to text you daily!" Laura told Emma. Emma smiled. The girls were helping her feel better already. Noah came up to Emma and gave her a hug as well. Then Stormie gave Emma a hug. She smiled at Emma. "I'm going to make sure I see you again. So don't worry." Stormie said with a wink. Emma smiled. She so hoped that Stormie was right. Ryland, who was the youngest of the Lynch's and yet was still nearly a foot taller than Emma, gave Emma a hug next. Then Riker embraced Emma. "Thanks, Riker." Emma said quietly as the two hugged. "For what?" Riker asked. "Just... for being a friend." She told him. Riker smiled. "I'll see you soon, okay?" Riker told Emma. She nodded. Next, Rydel came up to Emma. She was carrying a shopping bag. "I got you something." She told Emma with a big smile. Emma smiled. "You didn't have to get me anything!" Emma hugged Rydel tightly. She was starting to feel like Rydelwas almost like a big sister to her. "Look inside the bag." Rydel told her with a smile. Emma was unsure of what it could be until she took a close look. She she saw it. And she couldn't believe her eyes. "Are you serious?! This is the dress from that boutique!" Emma exclaimed. Rydel had in fact bought Emma the dress which Emma tried on while the two were out shopping. Emma wanted to get it for her prom, but decided it was too expensive. "You're going to look great at your prom." Rydel told Emma. Emma hugged Rydel once again. "Thank you so much." she told Rydel. "I love it. I can't wait to wear it."
Emma felt completely loved after all of the hugs she had gotten from her friends. But she knew she only had a few minutes to spare before she would need to go to the airport. Then Ross came up to Emma. He tried to smile. It was almost like the smile Emma had seen on Ross's face each time they said hello to each other. But this smile was different. Emma could see sadness as well as exhaustion when she looked at Ross. "Hey." Ross said. "Hey." Emma replied. It was just like the two had done several times before. Emma did not want to think about that this would be the last time the two would be saying hello to each other. "Can I walk you outside?" Ross asked Emma quietly. She nodded. Emma turned and saw Raini and Laura still looking at her. She could see that they felt sad for Ross. Emma smiled at the girls, and they smiled back. With that last look, Emma turned and walked with Ross. She wanted him to hold her hand. But he didn't. He walked quietly. So Emma decided to hold Ross's hand first. Emma looked up at Ross. He was looking forward with the same exhausted look on his face. "How did you sleep last night?" Emma asked. "Not so great." Ross replied, trying to smile. "It's alright though. I've acted without getting much sleep the night before an episode quite a few times." Emma nodded. "That's good, I guess."
