KANAO
Kanao had been laying in her cell for a number of days. She hadn't eaten in days, and was going in and out of consciousness.
Every day, Daki would check to see if she was alive and try to feed her. "Hey, stupid! Eat something, or you'll be punished!" she growled.
"I don't care anymore... I want to go home," Kanao weakly muttered.
With an exasperated sigh, Daki pushed a bowl of gruel underneath the door. "You're going to piss Lady Mujōna off, you idiot. You should be happy that She hasn't killed you."
Kanao didn't respond, which infuriated Daki even more. The green-eyed demon opened the widow and glared at Kanao.
"Oh my God, what's wrong with you fucking slayers? We give you shelter and feed you, yet you're still angry! You would've been a meal by now if it wasn't for Her Graciousness."
With all of her might, Kanao weakly sat up and yelled, "She's the reason why I'm here in the first place!"
"And who's fault is that? Because it's not hers! Your stupid friends kept doing—" Daki abruptly paused.
Suddenly, the strong scent of vanilla and roses permeated the air. The fragrance was calming, intoxicating, and sensual all at once.
"My Queen, I'm so happy to see you. You look so beau—"
... A Queen?
"Is she awake?" an unfamiliar voice said.
"Yes, My Queen. She still hasn't eaten, though."
"Let me see her."
Daki obliged and opened the cell. Light flooded into the dark cell, making Kanao strain her eyes to adjust.
A beautiful female demon, who looked to be a Goddess and was heavily pregnant, stood in the doorway. She wore a jūnihitoe and had an upwards crescent moon marking on her forehead. The demoness gazed at Kanao with loving eyes.
"Kanao Tsuyuri, come with me," she said.
Something told Kanao to obey, so she shakily followed the pregnant demon. As they walked, Kanao stared at her in awe.
Who is she? She seems really nice... but how is she pregnant? I thought demons couldn't—
"I can sense that you have many questions," the demon laughed. "We can talk over a decent meal, hm?"
Kanao was shocked that a demon was being so kind to her. All her life, humans had been nothing but cruel to her.
Over time, the poor girl lost all sense of self and locked herself away from the rest of the world. Being adopted by Kanae and Shinobu helped her recover, but not entirely; the girl still found herself lacking a true identity.
The two arrived at a Royal Garden that was filled with red spider lilies and white roses. Shimmering butterflies fluttered around, and there were lovely ponds of koi.
They walked on stone paths and bridges until they made it to the peak of a mountain. The two sat in a spot under a sakura.
"What would you like to eat?" the demon asked.
Kanao fidgeted and said, "I-I don't know..."
"Then tell me your favorite food instead."
Kanao froze because she didn't know what was her favorite food. She nervously looked down at the ground.
"You don't know your favorite food? Hm."
A tray with a large bowl of udon and green tea appeared. Kanao ravenously ate the soup without asking any questions.
As she gobbled the meal, the demon spoke to her. "I am Mujōna Kibutsuji, The Queen of Demons," she said.
Kanao abruptly paused.
Kibutsuji? T-the Queen? Oh no...
Kanao moved to run away, but Mujōna gently touched her hand.
"I'm not going to harm you, Kanao."
"You locked me in a prison!" she shouted.
"Yes, and I apologize for that. I'd like to make it up to you by proposing an offer."
"...An offer? What could you possibly give me?"
Mujōna gestured for her to sit even closer to her. Kanao slowly obeyed and never took her eyes off the demon.
Although she was awestruck by her beauty and kindness, she was still wary of her. The woman recalled how Shinobu and Kanae would tell her how evil demons were.
Yet, this one doesn't seem bad like the others...
"Kanao, what is the one thing you seek in life?" Mujōna asked.
Kanao tried to think of an answer, but to no avail.
...I don't know what I want.
"I-I don't know..."
"Let me ask you this: would you ever become a demon?"
"No, of course not! I'm a Demon Slayer!"
"What if the life of someone you cared about was at stake?"
Oh no, she must be talking about Kanae or Shinobu!
Kanao's mind went into a state of urgency and panic. The woman looked horrified for a moment, but held herself together.
...I have to do this.
"Please don't hurt her. I'll do anything you ask of me," she said.
Mujōna held out a small vial of blood to her. "Drink this and no harm will come to your loved one, I promise."
Trembling, Kanao drank from the vial. Then her brain felt like it was splitting and melting simultaneously.
Kanao crumbled to the ground in tremendous pain. As she lost consciousness, she felt Mujōna caressing her hair and heard her singing to her.
Then everything went black.
TANJIROU
Tanjirou awakened cold, dark cell. He saw his black claws and heaved a sorrowful sigh at the memory of what happened.
They have Zenitsu, Sanemi, and Obanai as well! God, please help us escape!
Tanjirou peered underneath the door and saw a long corridor.
I assume that this is the dungeon area, so there must be guards. Maybe I could—
'There's no use in attempting to escape, Tanjirou.'
Mujōna!
Tanjirou froze at the sound of Mujōna's sultry voice. Her voice alone stirred an innate desire to submit to her, but Tanjirou's resolve was powerful. The man's heart was still human and devoted to being a Demon Slayer.
'Why don't you be an obedient soldier and wait for instructions, hm?'
I'll never obey you or fight on your behalf, Mujōna! You lied to me and hurt my friends!
'Speaking of your friends, your beloved Kanao is wondering about your wellbeing. Would you like to see her?'
Tanjirou's breath caught in his throat at the mere mention of Kanao.
...I don't want to hear any more of your lies!
'I'm not lying, Tanjirou. I'll let you see her; I've already reunited Mitsuri and Obanai.'
Tanjirou's heart fluttered with a small speck of hope. He didn't know how to respond and didn't want to give Mujōna any satisfaction, so he stayed silent.
'I said, would you like to see her?'
He contemplated for a while, then came to a decision.
Yes.
MUZAN
Kaburamaru was resting in a cage after undergoing a perilous operation by Muzan. The Demon Lord had inserted a miniscule amount of his blood directly onto the serpent's brain.
Kaburamaru died a few times during the operation, but Muzan revived him. Before the snake went to sleep, it happily coiled around his arm; the snake was now docile and affectionate towards him.
"Good boy," Muzan said as he gently closed the cage. Then he teleported to his study chamber.
'Kokushibou, enact Phase Three.'
'Yes, My Lord.'
After most of the slayers were handled, the next step of their plan was to deploy swarms of demons around the world.
At night, the demons would be free to do as they pleased. This would cause the humans to be in a constant state of panic.
Because he was pleased with how things were going, Muzan decided to speak to an old friend.
The Demon Lord went into a meditative state and entered his subconscious.
The countless souls Muzan had taken were in the walls of his mind, pleading to be released. He chuckled darkly and enjoyed their songs of torment.
Then h e found exactly who he was looking for.
Tamayo.
Tamayo was reduced to a mere head that levitated in place. Her eyes were closed, which indicated that she was in a meditative state as well.
When Muzan consumed her, he made sure to take her soul and keep her conscious alive. He didn't want her treasonous efforts to go unpunished, even in death.
With a smirk, Muzan touched the center of her forehead and went into her subconscious.
✧TAMAYO'S THEME
Muzan found himself inside of Tamayo's subconscious. The woman's subconscious looked exactly like her hometown, which was a small, poor village in Osaka. This was where she met Muzan centuries ago.
The Demon Lord was wearing a black hakama with oriental embroidery, which was the outfit he was wearing when he first met Tamayo.
His medium-length hair was wavy, and his demonic features were suppressed. His piercing, crimson eyes were gentle and round, which made him look innocent and pure.
Muzan found Tamayo sitting on the porch of a shabby hut that lacked a door. The woman was in her original human state as she drank a cup of tea.
Her husband and two children were present. The children joyously played around as her husband cut wood.
Tamayo choked on her tea when she felt Muzan's presence. The Demon Lord approached her, smiling mischievously.
"Get out of here!" she screamed, as she threw a rock at him.
Muzan laughed as he dodged it with ease. "That's not how you treat the one who allowed you to create this illusion." Then he peered inside hut and said, "Dreadful. Your taste has always been repulsive."
"Did you just come in here to get under my skin? Because if so, you've failed! You can't hurt me anymore, Muzan."
Muzan sat beside her and poured himself a glass of sake. As he took a few sips, he stretched and purposely placed his feet near her teapot.
Tamayo mentally retched at his mere presence. "What more could you possibly want from me?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to see how you were doing, is that too much to ask?"
"Oh, cut the act! Let me guess: you've killed all of the slayers and you're here to gloat, right?" she hissed.
"No... Well, sort of. Besides that, I wanted you to know that life is going great for me," he said.
"I don't care, Muzan. Just leave me be!"
"You wouldn't care if I told you that I have a child on the way, Tamayo?"
Tamayo stared at him with a baffled expression. "I don't want to play any of your games. Now leave!"
"Oh, but this isn't a game, Tamayo. My mate is pregnant and will give birth soon," he boasted. Then he sent her a mental image of the heavily pregnant Mujōna Kibutsuji.
Tamayo's breath caught in her throat, and she shattered her cup of tea. She trembled with a disgusted, disturbed look upon her lovely face.
"What is it, Tamayo? Are you jealous? Are you angry that it's not you who is carrying my child?" Muzan jeered as he stuck his toe inside of the teapot.
"...You filthy man! You corrupted that poor girl and took advantage of her!" she growled. "You're disgusting!"
"Tamayo, I didn't take advantage of her, and I think a part of you knows that. You're just a lonely, envious shrew." Muzan's eyes reverted to his angry, crimson ones.
"For the last time, I never loved you. I always hated you after what you did to me!" A vein on her forehead angrily throbbed.
The two children screamed joyously in the background.
Unable to conceal her anger, Tamayo pressed her temples and growled. "Be quiet!" she yelled.
"Sorry, mommy," they both said in unison.
"Your dead kids are so aggravating. I hope mine doesn't behave like this," Muzan sighed. "Maybe you devouring them wasn't such a bad thing at all."
Upon hearing that, the woman's eyes changed, and her claws and fangs extended
Tamayo wasn't human anymore; she was now a demon.
She moved to slash Muzan with her sharp claw, but he sensed her attack. The Demon Lord floated in midair air and landed on his feet, grinning maliciously.
Muzan grabbed his sake and took another sip. "You've been waiting to do that for a while, hm?"
"I hope you die a painful death. I hope you burn in Hell. I hope you— I curse you and your child!" she shrieked. Tamayo slashed her arms and muttered a dark incantation.
Muzan's eyes widened and a look of concern flashed across his face, but only for a second. Then he burst into laughter, baring his fangs.
"Woman, your wicked spells don't work in this realm! You're in my subconscious!"
"Oh, really?" Tamayo pointed at his glass of sake and muttered another incantation, which caused his drink to turn into black tar.
What the fuck? How can she—
"Y-you're not supposed to be able to do that in here! I made sure of it!" Muzan hissed. The Demon Lord crushed the glass in his bare hands, and his blood dripped onto the snow. "Tell me the spell you just casted on me, bitch!"
"I'm not telling you anything, Muzan!" she laughed. "Burn in Hell!" Then she began to leave.
"You insolent— Hey, don't walk away from me while I'm talking to you!"
Tamayo ignored his retorts, and skipped and twirled on her way back.
Muzan grew furious and his body threatened to morph into something monstrous. "Tamayo, get back here! I said get—"
Then everything went black.
Muzan jolted awake at his desk, breathing heavily. Tamayo had left her subconscious, which kicked him out as well.
His seven hearts and five brains raced as he tried to process what just happened.
That witch... she cursed I and my child! Fuck, fuck, fuck!
Muzan's arm morphed into a demonic, red mass of flesh that began to consume a few bookcases.
S-she was able to use her kekkijutsu! That evil whore! How dare she inflict harm on my child!
Although he would never admit it, The Demon Lord was terrified. He of all people knew the power Tamayo possessed, which is why he picked her to be by his side.
The two demons had a twisted, abusive relationship for centuries, but that was over six hundred years ago. Their relationship was loveless and only filled with lust; Tamayo hated him with every fiber of her being, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't have sex with him.
After Tamayo had escaped, she made it her life's duty to eliminate him. Muzan allowed her to exist undisturbed, but her teaming with the Demon Slayers was the final straw, so he had no choice but to end her.
Tamayo... what have you done?
