Harry folded the letter and kept it in his pocket. He wondered if he should really tell Remus and the others that he was not the child of the prophecy. For some reason he decided not to, however, and see how this would pan out. Also, Snape and Draco both had asked him not to reveal this secret to anyone and Harry knew they meant Remus and Sirius.
He already knew the entire prophecy since Snape had told it to him so he guessed he would simply tell Remus and others the exact words Snape had told him and nothing else. It should convince them for the time being.
So the coming weekend he flooed over to his manor and the group headed over to the ministry. Since it was the weekend the ministry was rather empty except for a few ministry workers. Amelia met them in the atrium and together they headed towards the elevator to the department of mysteries' floor.
"Would anyone find out that someone other than the unspeakables was on this floor?" Sirius asked.
"The DoM has a separate elevator," Amelia said as their elevator came to a stop and its doors opened. They got off and then followed her to another elevator on the other side of the corridor. "This elevator does not record magical signatures of those who ride it," she said. "Raphael, the unspeakable I talked to about today has made sure that the DoM's floor won't record anyone other than the unspeakables visiting today."
"We should've told you about this earlier," Remus said looking at Harry. The elevator was big enough to hold over ten people so Sirius and Amelia were standing closer to the door while Remus and Harry were towards the back. "We…I should've told you about it because you have a right to know."
"You don't have to blame yourself, Remus," Harry said. "I know you all had the best intentions for not telling me about it before. I guess it can't be helped since Voldemort is now back and sooner or later he will be coming after…me."
"We will stop him, Harry," Remus said placing a hand on his shoulder, "together."
The elevator came to a stop as its doors opened. The four walked out as Harry saw the elevator disappear. He looked around in surprise and confusion like the rest of them. None of them had been here before, not even Amelia who'd been working in the ministry for over a decade now.
"What is this place?" Sirius asked.
They were standing in a never-ending corridor with grey metallic looking walls on either side. Behind them was the wall instead of the elevator which had disappeared and in front of them was a straight, unending corridor.
There was no door, window or any sort of signs on either of the walls on their sides.
"Where are we supposed to go?" Sirius asked.
"I guess we head towards what we see," said Remus telling them to head towards the small light they could see at the 'end' of the corridor. "Didn't this Raphael tell you where to go after coming here, Amelia?"
"He said he would meet us once we were in the DoM," she said. "Raphael?" she called his name but nothing.
"Let's just keep walking," said Remus. They walked for like twenty minutes but the light source didn't seem to come any closer.
"Are we sure we're even covering any distance?" asked Sirius.
"Look, it's turning," Harry said and they saw the light source moved a bit to the left. Even the walls looked like they had shifted a bit as if the corridor had turned a little to the left.
They continued their walk and soon found themselves in a round corridor with lots of doors. "You're here!"
They turned towards the sound as a man clad in white cloak and a large hoodie covering his face walked towards them. His cloak had the marking of the unspeakables which was just a weird doodle as Harry saw it.
"I hope you didn't have any trouble getting here," he said walking over to Amelia. He then looked at the other three behind her. "I can only let one of you inside," he said.
"We know," Amelia said. "Harry?" Raphael saw the young boy walk forward.
Raphael looked from Harry to Amelia to Harry again. "It's nice to meet you in person, Lord Potter," he said.
"You know me?" Harry asked.
"Who doesn't?" Raphael said. "So I take it that you will be the one going into the room of prophecies?" Harry nodded. "Right. Before you go I should tell you some important things that you need to keep in mind. The room of prophecies is a very dangerous place just like every single room behind these doors," he said pointing at the doors on their left side. "Once you enter that room you need to give a drop of your blood at the cauldron otherwise you will never know where the prophecy is kept. Also by doing so the room will recognize whether or not you are the right person to see the prophecy."
"What do you mean?" Sirius asked.
"Other than the person who is a subject to a prophecy no one else can see it," said Raphael.
"So it wouldn't have mattered if one of us would've gone into that room," Remus said. Raphael nodded.
"The blood recognition magic at the entrance of that room would've recognized that none of you are related to any of the prophecies and so it wouldn't tell you about the location of the prophecy you are looking for."
"So it needs a drop of my blood?" asked Harry.
"Yes," Raphael said. "Also, don't touch another prophecy sphere even by mistake or else it will explode, taking you with it."
"Perhaps we shouldn't do this," Sirius suggested meekly. Everyone ignored him.
"So, are you still willing to go?" asked Raphael.
Everyone looked at Harry. He nodded. "Harry, are you sure?" asked Remus.
"One way or another Voldemort is going to come for me," Harry said. "There might be a chance that I can find something in the prophecy that might help me defeat him. I'll be careful."
Remus nodded but unwillingly. Raphael stepped back once and turned towards the wall with the doors and suddenly the entire corridor started to spin. Everyone thought they would fall but they remained standing right where they were as they saw the doors passing by them very fast until they stopped. The door in front of Harry clicked and opened slightly as a cold breeze escaped out of it.
"Remember what I said," said Raphael looking at Harry. "Don't touch any other sphere."
Harry nodded before looking at Remus, Sirius and Amelia as he opened the door and walked in. The door closed behind him as Harry saw a massive dark room with a faintly dispersed white light scattered around the entire place. It came from all the spheres that were placed on tall metal racks wherever Harry could see. It was cold in here as he noticed a large cauldron a few feet away from him.
He walked over to it and saw it had a strange colored liquid from which silver mist was coming out. It didn't have any smell but Harry still held his breath not taking the risk of breathing in the strange potion's steam. He saw a small knife on the side and picked it up.
"Let's see if this works," he said to himself and made a very small cut and let a drop of blood fall from it into the cauldron. The moment the blood fell into the potion it changed its color instantly for a moment as Harry saw the steam became denser. He stepped back wondering what was happening when he saw the steam started to form some sort of shape. It was as if it was trying to form some characters. He recognized what it was going to form as he looked at the racks around him and saw that under each sphere there was a certain code written.
The steam dispersed without forming any character which confirmed that there was no prophecy related to him in here. Had Harry knew about it he could've brought Draco's blood. Even though he couldn't see the sphere himself at least it would've confirmed if Draco was in reality the subject of the prophecy.
It looked like he would have to lie to Remus and others about seeing the prophecy as he turned around and walked towards the door. The moment he opened the door he felt something was not right. He looked back towards the spheres as their glow started to fade. In a matter of seconds the entire room filled with darkness and Harry couldn't see anything. His hand went for his wand but then he realized he didn't have it as this was a secure floor so they all had to submit their wands at the entrance. He didn't have his spare wand with him either. He'd left it back at the manor.
Suddenly then he heard a bubbling sound coming from the cauldron and walked towards it carefully. He could still make out the steam coming out of it a little bit as he saw it formed some sort of code before dissipating away. Harry's eyes then caught a very faint glow in the far end of the third shelf on his right. It was very dim but it was there. He wondered what it was when he heard a loud explosion and turned towards the door. It was open so he could hear the shouts happening out in the corridor.
Something was not right. Harry could feel it as he headed towards the exit. He came out and barely dodged a purple spell which hit one of the doors and exploded. He looked to his left and saw a person in black robe and a silver mask. Death eater. He cursed for not having his and as he quickly stood up and ran away from him, dodging another spell, a sickly green one this time.
"Fool! The dark lord wants him alive!" Harry heard someone shout behind him as he noticed the barrage of spells coming at him stopped for a moment before they continued again but this time with less lethal and more incapacitating ones. He was glad that his training was helping him but he couldn't understand how he could already sense a spell which was about to hit him. It was as if he could see it coming at him from behind before dodging it with ease. He tried not to give any thought to it at the moment as he was currently trying to run away from danger. Instead he wondered what had happened to Remus and the others.
As he dodged the spells and continued to run he realized that the corridor wasn't ending. It seemed he was running around in the same path when he felt a chill down his spine and he didn't know why but he stopped dead in his tracks. A few death eaters came from the front, blocking his path as Harry turned around and saw a small group of death eaters coming his way from the back. But his eyes weren't on them. His eyes were on the man who was in their midst. He was tall and Harry could tell that he was skinny seeing how his robe dangled over his body. Even under that silver mask Harry caught a slight glimpse of the man's pale, dry skin. He could sense the air getting dense in the place as the hair at the back of his neck stood up.
He felt a strange feeling inside of him but he didn't have to think about it. Not at the moment as the man removed his mask and Harry saw a pale face with red eyes, thin black lips and no nose.
"Harry," he said with a smile as he walked towards him but then stopped a few meters away. Harry saw him looking at him from top to bottom. "I never thought I would see you again but here we are. Do you know who I am?"
Harry looked at him as he remembered seeing a bright flash of green followed by a smiling face. He also remembered a scream and an explosion. He wondered how he could remember it as he was so small then but then he looked at the man in front of him. "Voldemort," he said.
Voldemort grinned as he let out a chuckle. "You remember," he said.
"Where are my friends?" Harry asked.
Voldemort's grin turned into a smile as he looked at the boy. "I thought you would ask something else," he said. "Like, why did you kill my parents?"
Harry was thankful for his occlumency training as without it he would've done something rash by now because those words enraged him so much he knew he would've done something he that would regret later. Without his wand he was helpless in this situation but he couldn't stop worrying about Sirius and others. But even then he couldn't let Voldemort see that he was afraid of him so he just stood there glaring at him.
Voldemort's smile vanished as he looked at Harry. The boy was supposed to feel fear or rage seeing him but there was no reaction from him. He had heard how Harry had taken control of his life before coming to Hogwarts and had wondered why Dumbledore hadn't interfered with the boy's life like he had tried to do with his.
"Where are my friends, Tom?"
Voldemort looked at him, this time with a frown and a little bit of a surprise when he heard Harry call him by that name. Suddenly Harry saw a death eater apparate in the group behind Voldemort and carefully walk towards him. Harry wondered how he managed to apparate inside the ministry as he saw the death eater whisper something in Voldemort's ear. "Hmm," Voldemort said with a nod. "Good work." The death eater bowed before joining others back in the group. Voldemort then looked at Harry and raised his wand.
Harry could see its tip not glowing. All spells and charms either emitted a beam of light or simply a glow at the tip of the wand. There were only two spells which didn't have any tell – the first two unforgivables and knowing Voldemort he was definitely going for the cruciatus on this one. Harry readied himself as he saw Voldemort's wand come down.
"Crucio!" Voldemort said and Harry felt an unbelievable amount of pain all throughout his body as he fell on the floor writhing in pain. He couldn't even think or see properly due to the jolting pain. He wanted to scream but didn't want to give Voldemort the satisfaction so he pressed his lips tightly."
The pain stopped suddenly after about twenty seconds as Harry gasped heavily, his body curled up on the floor, shaking wildly. His face was lying in the small pool of his own drool as he coughed hard trying to catch his breath. His whole body was sweating as his vision became blurry. Even though the pain had stopped immediately with the spell the spasms that followed were as nasty as the pain itself.
He could hear Voldemort walk towards him as the man crouched and looked at him closely. "As much as I wanted to continue, unfortunately I have to be somewhere right now," he said in a sort of whisper bringing his mouth close to Harry's ears. "Don't worry. I have told them not to kill you because you are only going to die at my hands. However, the same cannot be said about your friends. You'll have to excuse me for taking Amelia away, though, as she has been poking around too much."
Harry turned his head as much as he could and saw Voldemort stand up and walk towards his death eaters. One of them came forward as Harry saw he had Sirius in binds. His godfather was all bloodied and bruised but was still conscious. He also saw Remus being held by someone in the back as that man walked over to the front. Harry's heart almost stopped seeing who he was. He had seen enough pictures of him in the newspapers. He understood why Remus looked unable to do anything despite not being in binds. He couldn't do anything because he stood next to the very man who had turned him into a werewolf – his alpha, Fenrir.
The group dispersed as Fenrir let Remus go. The man didn't move, though, as he looked at Harry and Sirius with nothing but regret and guilt in his eyes. "Not yet," Fenrir said to Remus as Harry knew what was about to happen. The death eater holding Sirius pushed him towards Harry as the man fell on the floor, too wounded to walk.
Harry grunted as he dragged himself towards Sirius with everything he had. With each moment the spasms from the curse's after effect were going away. He stood up taking support of the wall before helping Sirius up as well.
"Ha…Harry, run…run," Sirius managed to say.
"Voldemort said no one else would kill me," said Harry. "I am taking us out of here and then we are going to come back for Remus and Amelia." Although he'd said that he had no idea how he was going to pull this off.
He began walking away from the group of death eaters and Remus. Fenrir waited for about ten minutes before he smiled looking at Remus. "I beg you," Remus said dropping on his knees, his eyes wet. "Please, don't."
"Make sure the boy sees you devouring his godfather," Fenrir said as Remus' painful cries filled the entire corridor. He thrashed his hands and legs as he stood up and ran towards where Harry and Sirius had went.
Harry could hear the thumping. He didn't want to look back when he felt another spasm and his legs tripped and he fell along with Sirius. As he tried to stand up he stopped as he slowly looked behind him. There stood Remus looking at them half-way through his transformation with confused eyes when he shook his head. "Run," he said in a growling tone as if coming back to his senses for a moment before he narrowed his eyes in anger and rage.
Harry mustered all his strength and dragged Sirius towards one of the doors. He opened and dragged them both inside, locking the door behind him. He couldn't miss the look of extreme horror, shame regret in Remus' eyes when he saw him just now.
Fenrir sure had a sick sense of humor.
