Jason
"Well, I found something," Jason waltzes into Gleeson Hedge's office.
Hedge turns in a big chair to face him and puts one finger up.
"Yes sir, in St. Petersburg. Cause of death was... natural causes." Someone was saying on the phone's speaker.
"Alright, thanks you." Gleeson ends the call. "Dimitri Ivanov is dead."
Jason sits in a chair. "Wow. Natural causes they said?"
Hedge nods. "They said, but something doesn't smell right... I don't know."
"I don't know either But I found this," he sets a paper folder down on Hedge's desk. "It's a list of CIA personal. They each have access to an offshore account that receives regular deposits from a shell company based in Beijing. But, the corporation itself has its roots in- you guessed it- Moscow."
Hedge looks at the file. "This was Jackson's work?"
Jason nods. "It's incomplete. I did a little research on a few the employees listed. Most of them have only been working here for a few years. I think we need to use extra caution when exploring this. Several of those names are high level IT. We need to go old school and use paper. I can access SWIFT SCRL on my personal laptop. So I'll use that to get ahold of international banking information on them. And we don't know how deep it goes, for all I know they could be at the very top."
Gleeson looks up. "I agree. And I want you to continue working up this avenue. This stays between you and me until we can figure this all out."
"Are you working on getting back the file? Do you think it was stolen from Ivanov?"
"Possibly- since I'm not totally convinced it was a natural death. That would, for sure be one reason to kill him. But, we've already moved some major data collection points. So at least we've secured that."
Jason thinks for a minute. "Can we get a copy of the coroners report, maybe?"
Hedge leans forward, lacing his fingers together. "I can try, what are you thinking?"
Jason shrugs. "I don't know, but I have a hunch..."
"What kind of hunch?"
"Well there are some things that won't show up on your standard tox report... and some things that look normal but..."
He spreads his hands.
"Alright, I'll work on it. And you finish vetting all of our agents. "
Jason stands and turns to leave. He stops. "Sir, I'd like to check into your records as well. I'm going to, just to be safe and I just thought it courteous to let you know. Blind trust never works out well."
Gleeson stands. "That's good, I wouldn't have it any other way. And you'll understand that I'll do the same to you."
Jason smiles. "Yes, sir."
