A peaceful atmosphere was around Light. He was on his back somewhere and relaxed. His head was kind of swimming, feeling like he'd get dizzy if he stood up.
He moved his right arm over his face while he was opening his eyes to the light blue sky. He started to realize why he was so relaxed. He was on his back on soft grass, and there was singing coming from somewhere.
It paused, and the bright, female voice singing greeted him.
"Hey," the voice greeted, "How ya doin?"
"Where am I?" the gray and white Flareon asked.
"Right here, right now," the voice said. "Stay a second. You have time right now."
"Okay," Light said.
The Flareon stretched himself and rolled onto his side, feeling a comfortable slight incline.. When he went onto his side, he was looking at a Sky-Forme Shaymin who was sitting up and looking back at him. Her green eyes went in different directions when he first looked at her.
"Uhm, welcome. To, ah, here," she said, "Are you relaxed yet?"
Light laughed some to himself a bit. It was hard to tell if the Shaymin noticed it, but she continued to half-stare at him. She was bigger than he was, although he always had a small size ratio.
But after thinking about Shaymin, he realized just how big she was. She was an absolute behemoth among her rare species. She was strong enough to be a bodybuilder, too. The Shaymin was enough to intimidate him if she wasn't looking at him so passively. She was probably in her high-teens.
Light felt his heart shiver a bit. He looked away from her and down at his own body and saw he was covered in bandages. The concentration of them were around his leg, where he could feel a bit of a dull, suppressed sting.
"I think I can keep relaxed and know what happened," Light said, "I'm alright."
"Well, do you remember what was going on?" she asked in a light voice.
"Everything. Not anything I can't handle remembering," Light said.
"Well, we usually bring people here for stress." she explained. "After all of that, you're saying you're not scared? Or worried?"
"Not for me," Light said. "We're on... Kaigan. Yah?"
"Yeah. We brought you here after we were sure you were just fine. "
"What's around us?" Light asked.
"We're just on a hillside. In a peaceful, tiny town... There are puffy clouds..."
The Flareon looked at the Shaymin again. She stared back and gave a forced, overjoyed smile that showed a set of pure white teeth.
"Were they that worried I'd have a panic attack?" Light asked.
"Ok, well. You were kind of, you know... Uh, I probably shouldn't say anything about it..." she backtracked.
"Any idea of where it is now?"
"We were hoping you'd know cause of reasons I'm not supposed to imply about yet and this is going really badly." the Shaymin frowned.
"It's okay," Light said, "I'm just fine. My name is Light."
"Oh, right. I guess I didn't know that... My name is Ariel. I'm a Valkyrie who was out training with my friends when I heard reports about a giant, rocket dragon fighting a lone person on the beach. Still wondering how that all started..."
"Me too."
"Well, Kaigan appreciates your giant risk you decided to take," Ariel said. "It was really brave. They call you the 'White Star' now."
"Who?"
"Uhm..." Ariel's voice trailed off, "Just, like. Everyone. Around the, ah, world. They just kind of named you cause they didn't know your name yet, so they just kind of jumped in for it."
"So, what's a Valkyrie?" Light asked.
"Well, we're a a group of all female soldiers. We specifically guard the castle. Mostly from rats now. But we're Kaigan's strongest, so it was lucky that some of us were around."
"Lucky. Yah," Light said.
"That's something to be happy about, right?" Ariel asked.
"We'll see. I think its time for me to get up."
The gray and white Flareon pushed himself onto his feet and took in where he was more.. The hill was overlooking a tiny cliff-side up ahead that was over the ocean. When he walked up a bit and looked on the other side, there was a town with a few tall buildings and busy streets far below.
"How long have I been sleeping for?" Flareon asked.
"Just the night," Shaymin answered, "our healers got to you the same minute you got those wounds, so there's only a little lingering pain left."
"I'm guessing someone wants me to talk about stuff?"
"Yeeeaaah. They're patient for now thanks to your Slowking friend, though."
Light was trying to get his focus back for what to do next, but couldn't for some reason. He was thinking in random directions.
"What's... well, everything I need to know right now?" Flareon asked.
"Uhm... the weather is a nice seventy-three."
Flareon just nodded at her observation. If there was any action being taken with Reshiram, they clearly didn't need him for it. Not that he was good for much right now. He took a deep breath of the fresh air, getting a taste of the sea.
"Why am I here alone with you?" Light asked. "Aren't there hospitals?"
"You ended up fine,," Ariel said, "so we figured you wouldn't mind skipping the bill. I brought you back and thought this would be, uhm. Helpful. Or something. You were all anxious, and muttering in and out of being conscious and I felt really bad."
The Sky-Forme Shaymin tripped over her words from her nerves. Flareon put a light smile on his face, and she responded with her own naturally.
"So, you saved me all by yourself?" Light asked.
"I mean, you could put it that way," Shaymin said, "or you could say that I had support over years to get strong enough to save you."
"Is there any way I could thank all of you?"
"Well, uhm... Lead a good life." she shrugged. "Pay it forward. All the good stuff."
"I can think of a good place to start for that. Where did Reshiram go?"
"Much further inland, but we completely lost it. No activity reported anywhere."
Resting wouldn't hep Light move forward. He though of what he could do to try and make some level of progress. Learning more about Kaigan's forces like the Valkyries could help him plan ahead.
"Could I meet those supporters of yours?" Light asked.
"Of course," Shaymin said, "would you like me to carry you?"
The Flareon's gray fluff and tail shot up from a sudden burst of heat. His white fur shined intensely, a little spark of energy running down his arm uncontrollably.
Light's face felt hot, but his whole body seemed to agree with him tenfold. He couldn't hide his embarrassment.
"You carried me up here?" Flareon asked.
"I'm sorry," Shaymin winced, "I don't want to embarrass you."
Flareon's fur settled back down, with some of the gray fur on his head falling onto his face. He wiped it aside with his arm.
"You already did that when you had to rescue me," he muttered.
"No, Light. Everyone needs help sometimes."
"I've needed others help enough."
"Hey, I need you to relax," the Shaymin said.
Flareon stepped back a bit from her intimidating tone change. His bad leg gave way under him, but Shaymin rushed forward a few steps and caught him by his his hand before he could fall.
Ariel reeled Light back up onto his feet and stepped back. She fumbled with the green fur on her head and looked down during a tiny silence that followed.
"Look, I know I'm just an outsider in all of this," Ariel said, "but Glass Reshiram is very good at psychology. It had strategies to get under your skin, and people were worried. It doesn't matter who needs who, we're on the same team."
Flareon just looked down while she spoke. She leaned down to get into his line of sight, bringing his head back up again.
"We can do anything relaxing you want to today while you recover," Shaymin offered.
"Well, I guess I'd like to know how Jewel is doing," Flareon said.
"Jewel and that Slowking are on the cruise ship in the harbor. Some others are heading there too."
"Who?"
"People that want Glass Reshiram's bounty," Shaymin said. "Strong people. Not that many so far, though. Lots of different nations added to the bounty, but it's still pretty reckless."
Light just accepted what she said wordlessly. Ariel's eyes started to dart around again.
"I'm sure you'll be asked plenty of questions later," she said, "so, ah. Well. Wanna talk about or do something else?"
Light was a little thrown off by the question. He figured the only thing a soldier would want to ask him would be about what happened. It had to mean she had another agenda, good or bad.
"Like what?" Flareon asked in a quiet voice.
"Uhm, how are you doing?" Shaymin asked. "And, uh, do you want to eat something?"
"I just feel a bit weird," Flareon said, "and I could eat something."
"Alright, what do you like?"
"You can pick. I'll try anything."
Ariel nodded and smiled a bit. "Alright. Can you walk fine?"
"Yah."
Flareon stood and followed Shaymin just over and down the steep hill. They reached the edge of a gray stoned street that continued on for a short time until it blended together with a town in the distance.
The small buildings were all made from a lightly colored wood with hugely varying shapes. They all seemed strangely empty considering Light could tell it was early in the afternoon.
It didn't take long for the pathway to started leading through a forested area, keeping the lampposts to their side and gray stone under their feet. Flower beds were brought to Light's attention from rays of light shining trough the palm trees.
Light had never seen tropical flowers on anything other than magazines before. Ariel seemed to catch him staring.
"You like those flowers?" Shaymin asked. The white Flareon's head turned to his other side to see her looking right at him as they walked.
"I've just never been around here," Flareon said.
"Mmmm, I think you liked those flowers more than that."
Light rolled his eyes at the comment and stole another quick glance. After a mile or so, the path opened up to overlook the harbor. The path to the small amount of buildings below was made from dirt.
The cruise ship stuck out incredibly from the other small fishing boats. A lot of people were gathered in the general area of the building.
Light guessed there wasn't enough room for them to go inside, so they were all waiting on the grass around the building chattering nonstop. He could almost hear it from on top of the hill.
"This is Kaigan's smallest harbor, but it's more active than I've ever seen it," Ariel said. "They all live in those houses we passed, but there's a bit of a town meeting."
"A town meeting?" Flareon asked. "What kind of people settle here?"
"Well. I don't live here. But there's a lot of older people who settle in this town. It's not really a place many visit, so everyone's riled up."
"Will they recognize me?"
"Probably not," Shaymin said. "Most of them probably don't know what a live-stream is. I'm not around this area that much, either."
The Flareon continued to talk as they walked down the hill. "So you're well-known in another area?"
"Yeah, I work in the big city most of the time," Ariel said. "During summer, I take some trips out here. For some peace and quiet. Do you have something for that?"
"Me?" Flareon asked. "Well, not really. I guess I could say a diary."
"Oh, did you lose it?" Shaymin asked.
"Well, I didn't really keep it at all," Flareon said, "I burned it after I wrote it down."
"Oh."
As Flareon and Shaymin approached the group, the talking became distinguishable. All of the pokemon that gathered were primarily talking about whether they were in danger or not.
As they got close, the talking quickly quieted down as a voice from the inside of the building gave an answer.
"There are no direct concerns for us. There's no additional action needed other than continuing to follow our standard protocol and keeping up with what's happening around us."
Light couldn't see inside of the center from the outskirts of the crowd as the talking picked back up. Ariel kept right at his side, half-looking at him.
"Oh, uh, where are we heading?" Flareon asked.
"I'm following wherever you want to go," Shaymin said. "If you're hungry, there's food back on the ship."
"I just want to listen a bit more."
Flareon moved around slightly trying to look inside, but the building was surrounded completely. He moved up a little closer, just a few feet behind an Elygem that was listening quietly.
An older Bayleef approached from his side with starstruck eyes. Flareon awkwardly avoided making eye contact with her until she started to talk directly to him.
"You are such a beautiful, Flareon. My goodness, young man."
Flareon curled his gray tail around his body a bit, thrown off guard. "Oh, ah. Thank you, miss."
"Wait, of course. Are you that White Star?" she asked.
The Elygem and a few other people glanced back towards him. Their eyes latched on.
Shaymin walked closer towards the Flareon as people started to talk and move around him. His tail got tighter around his body, and he he moved it so it covered his arms and legs.
"Strange."
"Elegant."
"No one said he was beautiful quite like this. I expected someone gruff."
"Bless his heart. Yes."
The Bayleef tapped the Flareon's shoulder with a vine from her neck to get his attention.
"Do you think you could go up and explain how you found yourself there, young man?" Bayleef asked. "I'm not sure everyone really understands."
Flareon turned to the Sky-Forme Shaymin for quick advice. She had a small, gentle smile on her face as she was looking around, and gave him a quick nod.
"Thank you, young man," Bayleef said.
The Bayleef walked with the Flareon and Shaymin, moving up the invisible circle around them so they could move into the building.
The inside was completely empty with glass doors leading outside and a single stand in the center. The crowd was thick, but moved aside when Flareon and Shaymin made their way through.
An older Samurott was listening and talking with the crowd from the short, wooden stand. He seemed to notice them.
"Everyone!" Samurott called. His voice's base was able to make the room quiet in just a second. "I think we have a guest speaker that will answer some questions."
The people all stayed quiet, and the increased awareness let the Flareon moved faster with them stepping out of the way. When he reached the stand, the Samurott had stepped down with a silent look of gratitude.
Flareon hopped up in a single bound, slowly bringing his view up to the people on almost every direction. Before whispers broke out, the Samurott's voice boomed again.
"This is the White Star, the first to Kaigan authorities to the threat and engaged Glass Reshiram in direct combat first. One question at a time, please."
"Should we be concerned about direct attacks against us?" a Bellossom called out.
Light thought about it, and he couldn't imagine it happening. He could feel somehow that it wasn't very focused.
"No," Flareon said, "not here anymore."
"Where is it from, and what are Glass Reshiram and you doing here?" a Pansear called.
Light stole a look down at the Samurott. He was writing some of these things down, along with a few in the crowd who looked like reporters, with the Pansear included. They were all moving their limbs very fast.
"It's from Valor. I got strapped to it with fireproof ropes," Flareon said.
There was a short quiet.
"Could you elaborate on that situation?" Pansear asked.
Light definitely didn't want announce he was part of a street gang, but thought of a way to try and skip that part.
"The Nightlight Association was attacking a gang that had an old white stone. It exploded and shaped into it. I got strapped to it during the attack."
"Just one more clarification," Pansear said, "about the Nightlight Association. They've been silent of this whole ordeal in terms of taking any responsibility. If you're suggesting that the Nightlight Association was responsible, are you implying they are hiding this from the public?"
Light went over the sentence a second time in his head.
"Yes," Flareon said, "but I don't know anything more about what they're doing."
"According to legends now presumed to be true," a Servine began, "Legendary pokemon are said to be ancient and emotionally stable. Many people wonder about your appearance's similarities with Reshiram and the things it said during the live-steam. Do you know of or feel a connection with Glass Reshiram?"
Light paused in his head as the Servine continued to look at him with a notepad ready.
"I also ask the you answer honestly," Servine added. "Everyone understands that you are not the threat. We want to understand Glass Reshiram."
"I guess..." Flareon said. "But I don't really know."
"And one last question," Servine said. "What are your plans going forward? Do you plan to return to Valor?"
Light wondered why that was a question a reporter would be curious about. He never even thought of the possibility that he could just choose to go home now.
It didn't feel right. Something about Reshiram felt like his job to do.
"I'll chase it wherever it goes," Flareon said. "Someone has to."
The journalists nodded and kept writing for longer this time.
Light looked down towards Ariel. She had a bit of a sad smile, giving him confidence with a nod. Samurott approached the stand, gesturing for him to step down.
They traded places, and Samurott raised his voice to the crowd again.
"Alright, that's enough questions for now. A primary source has just told you that there's no concerns here, so please disperse back to your homes."
It took a short moment, but idle talking and movement started up in the crowd. The air seemed to loosen up in the building with pokemon leaving outside. Samurott went down from the stand and approached Flareon.
"Thanks for helping me here, White Star," Samurott said. "I'm something like a mayor here. Not everyone really understands the situation outside of the possible danger to themselves, but I hope they won't have to."
"Uhm, yah," Flareon said. "No problem..."
Samurott turned to Shaymin. "And my own thanks to the lone Valkyrie who turned the tide."
"Just the job, sir," Ariel smiled.
"Job well done," Samurott said, "and I'll be heading back to my safe home myself. Thanks again."
Flareon watched the Samurott blend in with the crowd as they left outside. A few small groups lingered, but a massive wave of them were on the pathway they just took to get here.
"That was nice of you to help calm the people down here," Shaymin said.
"It's a nice thought I guess, but I didn't say something I should have," Flareon said."Something people just know about."
The Sky-Forme Shaymin walked around, gently putting herself in front of the Flareon's field of vision.
"What is it?" Ariel asked.
"I ended up in some small ring of islands not too far from here," Light said. "Reshiram landed there."
"I've never heard about this yet," Shaymin said, "what happened?"
"Well, it's over," Flareon winced. He was struggling to dodge the question. "But I guess the point is that Reshiram was already extremely weakened by the time it reached Kaigan. Its tail was hurt, so it's constantly burning itself alive as it's flying. That's the only reason it didn't just crash into the shore."
"I think you just need to think about this later," Shaymin said. "It's not here right now, but your bandages will rip if you keep making your body's energy jump from anxiety. You need to eat, alright?"
When he took a deep breath, Light could suddenly feel how fast his blood was moving. He released the breath and a bit of tension.
"Speaking of," Ariel continued, "did you evolve recently? I was just wondering."
"Uhm," Light whispered, "yes."
"It's alright. I was just going to offer helping you out later if you wanted."
"Helping me out again?"
"It isn't just a you thing, Light," Shaymin said, "lots of people need help after evolving. Especially when they're strong so they don't hurt themselves."
Light felt his face get a little warm, but tried to keep himself together. He knew she spun her offer into a compliment so he'd accept. His body heat skyrocketing up and down couldn't be too great for him.
"Okay," Flareon agreed.
"Alright, we'll do it later," Shaymin smiled, "so let's go to the ship."
Light followed her from just behind, watching her walk as they went. It was selfless for her to have rushed and save him, but he couldn't help but feel a little off. She seemed to want to keep him calm a little too much. There had to be a reason.
