Sixclaw
Chapter 43
THE HELLSCAPE
The crashed ship, which contained one of the three leaders that were making the expansion effort difficult certainly came to a surprise to Sunfur. The ear-splitting noise of metal shredding and surprised screams
"Well. This certainly is a surprise." said Sunfur, as the fox surveyed the crash site. "This tent is far enough away from the battlefield that I thought it wouldn't be disturbed." Sunfur motioned to the guards. "Move it out!" A moment later, the fox turned around. "I almost forgot." Arrest them."
Sixclaw opened her mouth to protest, but a rifle stock rammed into Sixclaw's forehead, and everything went dark.
MEANWHILE
One-Eye's scimitar swiped at the beast currently dueling with him. The wildcat stepped back a pace and ducked as his rival slashed at his face. The wildcat lunged forward, and introduced his blade to the unfortunate soldier's throat. He looked for Longtail, and saw his fellow warlord holding a squirrel by the throat.
He heard another scream, and realized that he had just butchered one of his own soldiers. Oh well. All's fair in love and war, I guess.
Longtail couldn't see. The maddened rogue turned his head left and right, but his sight failed to manifest. All he could see was a red blur. Then the screams started. The injured leader curled up in a ball, and waited for the screams to stop, which they eventually did.
His vision cleared, and he realized what he was doing. The horde leader slowly came to the realization that if he didn't move, he would die. Longtail dropped the enemy squirrel he was about to eviscerate, and ran for cover.
He grabbed a bow from the dead paws of a Skullian soldier, and ducked into a crater made from artillery fire. A moment later, an explosion launched One-Eye into the crater. The wildcat sat up inside his armor.
"Greetings, ya crazy bastard." said the wildcat, his voice echoing through the helmet.
"Hello." said Longtail. One-Eye's armor had several large dents, and his left glove was missing. There was also a massive bullet embedded in his helmet.
"Think Sixclaw and the others are okay?" asked One-Eye, reloading a fresh magazine into his weapon.
"Sure of it," stated Longtail. "Bootbrain's not an idiot, despite what his name implies. He wouldn't let the plan fail."
"He was stupid enough to throw his lot in with us, though." said One-Eye.
"Aye, true enough." At this, the whine of an enemy bomber became audible.
"COVER!" shouted One-Eye. His unit scrambled to the relative safety of a wrecked aircraft as a napalm dropper spread fire across the area. One Skullian was unfortunate to get a healthy dose of napalm dropped on him, and screamed as he was burned alive.
As the bomber passed out of napalm range, Longtail sprinted out of cover. The mad feral cat was holding an RPG. He aimed, then pulled the trigger, sending his explosive gift at the plane. The rocket impacted the right wing of the bomber, and smoke emanated from the area of impact.
"Nice shot." said One-Eye. "Hey, can I borrow a smoke?"
"Sure." said Longtail, pulling two cigarettes out of his pocket. He lit them in a patch of still burning napalm, and handed one to his fellow warlord.
The two stood there, in the middle of a crater, and smoking while gunfire and swords clashing echoed around them. Suddenly, Longtail's comlink buzzed.
The warlord opened it, and growled into the microphone, "State your business, whore."
The tinny, mechanical voice stated "I've taken Bootbrain prisoner and his entourage prisoner. We will meet for negotiations at the coordinates shown below. I have taken the liberty of calling a ceasefire for my forces. If you pause the attack, they will not be harmed."
Longtail looked at One-Eye, "This is an opportunity-"
"I know." said the wildcat. "Call the ceasefire in, and fuel up The Rebel Spirit to use as a decoy. We're taking the standard transport today."
