Chapter 29- Alliances

(Note: this chapter takes place during season 1 ep 25 "One shall stand part 2" of TFP)
Sorry that most of these chapters are focused from Twinwave's POV, the episodes at the end of season 1 are mostly focused around the Autobots and don't really include the Cons.
"How goes the signal recovery?" I asked after a few moments of silence between everyone that was here, "I've almost got it back online, it'll only take a second before we can talk with Optimus again." Ratchet coferemed. Five minutes, five minutes we'd been out of contact with the Prime and I already had a feeling he'd gotten himself into something detrimental to his well being. "Now?" I asked a second later, Ratchet just shot me an unappeased look before attempting to comm the Prime. "Optimus, have you uncovered any further sign of Unicorn's emergence?" was the first thing Ratchet asked when we regained contact with him, there was a pause before an unfamiliar voice, or voices, came through Optimus' comm link instead of his voice.
"Unicron is power incarnate, and you the last of the Primes, shall perish." the voices boomed through the link. Everyone had gathered around Ratchet when we lost the signal but now we were a little more than concerned for Optimus' safety. A bunch of Unicorns did say they wanted to exterminate him before rising to their full might, "I take that as a yes. We are on our way." Ratchet said. He and the rest of us had already turned to the ground bridge to await transport to help Optimus with the fight. "Negative." Optimus said the second everyone turned, "Why does he have to be so difficult? We're literally trying to help him." I muttered. Though I was fairly sure there was a good reason for wanting to keep us here, I just didn't want to hear it because it would be about our safety and how Unicorn only wanted to destroy him and no one else.
"Unicron can not be beaten by sheer force. He wants me, Ratchet. This fight must be mine alone." Optimus continued before he cut his comm link off again and we heard his blasters power up before he did so, "There it is." I muttered when he'd finished talking. Always worried about everyone's safety but his, it made him a good leader but became stubbornness when anyone tried to help him. "We're going anyway, aren't we?" I said to Ratchet, who may I add, was already at the ground bridge controls programming it to Optimus' location. "I have a feeling he needs the might of the rest of us if he is going to survive Unicron." Ratchet replied before switching the bridge on and giving me, Bee, Cee and Bulk the nod to go through. "I take that as a yes." I said with a grin before I went charging through with the others.
By the time I got through the ground bridge everyone was already open firing on the stone Unicrons that were absolutely everywhere, especially around Optimus. Whom they'd probably been attempting to destroy moments before we got there, and of course I didn't have a blaster so I was left to use my alt and my swords. "If one of these breaks, I'm going to personally escort Unicorn to the pits of Kaon." I thought as I transformed and followed Arcee's suit of jumping off the tall cliffs that surrounded Optimus and onto the stone Unicorns below to try and get them away from him-. I vaulted the one I had landed on towards Bee who shot him with his blaster, the stone figure dropped to the ground and crumbled into dust.
I untransformed and hit another and another towards the others for disposal before I drew my sword to see what would happen to the plasma that made up their blade when it met the rock of the stone Unicrons bodies. I plunged the blade through it's spark chamber and it crumbled to the ground like the rest had when they'd been shot by a blaster. After a few minutes of fighting Optimus shoved his blade through the spark chamber of the last sone Unicorn and we were left with their stone bodies surrounding us before they too crumbled back to dust.
"Did Ratchet not relay my command? Return to base." Optimus commanded us, clearly he hadn't seen the ground bridge close behind us when we entered this rocky casum. "Who do you think opened the bridge?" I asked, before our conversation was rudely interrupted by the stone Unicrons who'd started forming from the rock above us. "Reinforcements will not prevent your destruction, disciple of Primus." They boomed in unison, "Woah, that is creepy." I muttered as the rest open fired on them and I stood watching. "Bee, do you think you could launch me?" I asked my partner who was a little preoccupied by the swarming reincarnations of the titan who was below us. ":Fine. But make it quick.:" Bee buzzed as he untransformed one of his blasters back into his servo and held it to the ground for me to step on before putting his other one underneath it and launched me towards the stone figures.
I flew and nearly came too low to land on the ledge, I came crashing out of the sky onto one of the stone Unicorns who was about to jump down and attack the others below before I landed on him and put one of my swords through his spark chambre. As he fell I lept off of him and onto the ground before bumping into another one and having to do the same to him. As each new stone creation in my vicinity tried to jump down and get to Optimus I put a sword through their spark, well if they had one. I wasn't really sure if they did but who's to really say if they didn't.
I'd just killed another one before Ratchet's voice came yelling into my audio receptors, "Please! Listen to reason! If you don't survive, Optimus, I fear neither will this planet." Ratchet said through our shared comm link. Ah so the team below was trying to convince Optimus to go back to base, as if he'd listen to us. Well not us but Ratchet, Optimus gave a nod of his helm to Arcee. "FALL BACK!" She shouted to everyone including me who was on a cliff top above them, I watched her run to a nearby ledge and jump, catch the lip of it with her digits and pull herself to the top. I ran after them as we signaled our retreat.
Arcee and I were at the lead, attempting to get rid of any stone Unicrons in our paths before Optimus came after us, Bulkhead and Bee brought up the rear and extinguished the ones that tried to follow. We climbed up the ridges of the cliff, getting rid of the Unicorns that were in our path as more generated behind and in front of us. We jumped to a legade and Bee caught the lip of it and swung himself up, only for it to turn into a Unicorn a second later when Optimus tried to cross it.
He transformed into his vehicle mode before running it over and we continued our stretch to the top of the cliff. When we finally pulled ourselves to the top of it, more waited for us there. Everyone opened fire and I cut a few down before we transformed, I hopped onto Bee's alt and we drove through the swarm of them. Knocking through limbs and ramming into fallen bodies to finish them off before we came to another cliff side, we'd been driving for less than a minute before we'd gotten there and Unicorn was already making the biggest version of his stone self yet.
Bits of the cliff toppled down as the stone helmet of the giant rose, we of course, came to a screeching halt in front of it. Everyone untransformed and I jumped off of Bee as we watched it come to its full height. Huge, taller than the empire state building and the CN tower combined. "How are we going to beat this thing?" I questioned out loud, Arcee just shrugged back at me as we stared at the huge stone Unicron in front of us. ":Is that really Unicron?:" Bee buzzed as he and the rest of us continued to marvel at the giant's height.
"No, not Unicorn himself, but another of his manifestations." Optimus replied to Bee as he stepped forward, "If we can't beat Unicron and we can't out run him, what exactly are we supposed to do?" Bulkhead asked Optimus who was watching the giant walk towards us, it's footsteps thundering as his pedes hit the ground. "All we can do, neutralize his vessels as they appear, until we find a way to destroy him… without destroying the very Earth upon which we walk." Optimus replied as the giant stepped ever closer to us. "Won't we run out of energon first?" I questioned but the Prime already was in his battle mindset with his blasters transformed so there was no use talking to him unless you were a main character.
Everyone charged forward as we ran at the giant approaching us, Bee and Bulkhead transformed and drove between and around it's legs to get behind it and open fired as Arcee and Optimus open fired at its front as it kept a steady pace towards Optimus. I on the other servo, didn't have a blaster so in turn I resorted to climbing the giants leg. I put gashes in its armour, which were only tiny scratches and chips to it. As I climbed, it brought it's (what I'm calling the ancient equivalent to a wrecking ball but spiky) wrecking ball aka the closest arm to me.
Down into the Earth and swooped it towards Bee and Bulkhead, who stopped firing and started running away from it but got caught up in the dust and were sent flying into the air, until they landed a few yards away from us. "Just for that, I'm going to give you this." I shouted at the giant, who probably took no notice of me, and plunged my sword into its leg as far as the shaft and used my weight to bring it down until I was almost at the floor and my sword caught on something and I stopped. I pulled it out of the giants leg and dropped to the ground and rejoined Optimus and Arcee at the front of it.
As I landed Arcee tried to flank the giant but it used its rock whip to send her flying too before it turned its attention to Optimus, it plunged it's wrecking ball into the earth and brought it up which sent boulders flying towards him. They landed around him and on top of one another caging him, "Fool. I am this world's past and future. And as of this moment… all Primes are simply past." It boomed as it brought it's ped closer towards the pile of boulders that had caged Optimus.
Everyone was too far away from him, none of us would get to him in time before he was crushed. "No!" Arcee and I screamed as it edged closer and closer towards him. There wasn't silence hanging in the air but instead the sound of jet engines coming closer to us, the sound of blaster shots meeting and breaking rock sounded around us as the engines got closer. The giant Unicron fell, just clearing the others, who had been thrown behind it, as I ran towards Optimus to dig him out of what might've been his grave. "You alright there, Optimus?" I asked as he and I worked together to move the boulders so he could escape, "I'm fine, thank you, Twinwave." He replied as we looked towards the fallen giant. "I wonder who shot that thing out for us." I said before I got my answer, like seconds before. "I HAPPENED." Megatron's voice boomed through the air, "Great." I muttered.
The Con jumped off of the rocks that had once been a giant manifestation of Unicorn and landed in front of us just as I helped Optimus out of the rumble. Throughout the whole situation I had ignored the conversation that had happened between Arcee and Ratchet, I was just focused on what was happening with the Megatron situation. "It is rather iconic, considering our last encounter." Megatron started as he walked away from us, "If memory serves, you were desperately attempting to extinguish my spark." Megatron continued as he turned to us. "And as I recall, you've attempted to do the same to us, time and time again." I growled, the Decepticon warlord just smiled at my attempt to intimidate him. "You do have the same spunk as your once called sparkmate, but that is not what I'm here for." Megatron retorted.
"That option is still very much in play." Optimus said as he brushed past me and went to meet his enemy helm to helm, "I would expect nothing less." Megatron said as he moved his helm closer to meet Optimus' stare. "Then what are you here for?" I said trying to break their optic contact and tension, "I have a proposal." Megatron said before he broke contact with Optimus and started to reply to my question. "Join me in defeating our shared emey- Unicorn, the chaos bringer." Megatron said as he turned to face Optimus and the others. There was shock written across their faceplates and I had expected nothing less from him, he's got competition for ruling Earth and he's scared of it but too prideful to admit it. "Ha! Absurd! Unicron is evil incarnated, if Megatron was to take any side, why would it be ours?" Ratchet questioned, "Because, Megatron's pride would never allow anyone other than himself to rule this planet." Optimus said as he approached Megatron and then came to a stop a few meters from him. "You know me all too well, Optimus." the warlord replied with a smile on his dermas.
"You lead an army of Cons. Why come to us?" Bulkhead questioned, "He makes a point, you could just get Rainjet and Soundwave to issue a kill switch for him." I added. I didn't like where this was headed, nor did I like the idea of us working together. "Because." he started as he also started walking towards us, "This particular endeavor requires something beyond the realm of my command- the power of a Prime." Megatron finished as he came to a stop next to Optimus and held out one of his clawly servos to gesture to our leader. "Then I guess we don't need you." Bulkhead scoffed, speaking for the rest of us. "On the contrary, Optimus may be the only one who can defeat Unicron, but I remain the only one who can guide you to him. Unicorn's lifeblood runs through me. Only I can hear his thoughts, anticipate his movements." Megatron countered, he did make a good point, as much as I hated to admit it.
He was the only one to use the same life substance as Unicorn and probably had a strong connection to the titan as a result. "Optimus, our past alliances- Autobot, Decepticon- no longer matter, not while Unicron lives." Megatron continued as he approached Optimus, I knew he was trying to get him to side with himself to defeat Unicorn, for how long? That we didn't know. "That past always matters!" Ratchet yelled through our comm link, "Watch it, Ratch, thats my audio recports and the other's you're damaging there." I quietly said back in an attempt to calm him. "A truce between Autobot and Decetpicon. How long do you expect us to believe that will last?" Optimus retorted, clearly still not completely onboard with this idea. "Only as long as it's mutually beneficial." Megaton replied, "So off us on the way to his spark chambre to declare your loyalty?" I shot back at him. I was simply brushed off and ignored by him becuase his only focus was Optimus right now, he knew that whatever was decided by him went with all of us, no matter if we didn't like it. "And when our shared mission is complete?" Optimus questioned again, "I will conquer this Earth… my way." Megatron replied, emphisiesing "My way." at the end.
"Brutal honesty from a Decepticon?" Arcee asked us,we didn't get a chance to respond before Ratchet was back ranting about who we were siding with, "Siding with the lesser of two evils is still siding with evil." Ratchet ranted into our comm link. "Do you think you have witnessed the full power of Unicron? Those foot soldiers were nothing more than a taste. Unicron has yet to fully awaken. With each passing moment the bringer of chaos evolves, mutating Earth from the inside out. What we have witness till now is but a prelude of the utter devastation his rising will wreak upon your world." Megatron said, he was reasoning woht Optimus and I knew by the look on his faceplates Optimus was still weighing those options. "Like your quest for power destroyed Cybertron?" I interjected, "Make no mistake." Megatron started as he started walking over to our small group.
"This time, there will be a planet left for me to rule." Megatron snapped at us, I still wasn't convinced he was here to help and I didn't think the rest of the Autobots were either. "Even if we agree, Unicorn's all the way down at the centre of the Earth. How are we supposed to get there- drive?" Bulkhead added to my thoughts, he was right how were we going to get to the centre of the Earth? "There is only one way." Optimus started before Ratchet's yelling cut him off agaon, "ABSOULTY NOT! Ground bridging into space or on a moving trains is difficult enough. But plotting a blind jump INSIDE A SENTIENT BEING?! Besides, direct exposure to that much dark energon will debilitate you. You haven't built up an immunity like Megatron has." Ratchet yelled into our comm link. The damage to my audio receptors after this might be unfixable, or I'd go deaf before we even had a chance to fix them. "Yet another strong argument for soliciting my guidance." Mgeatron countered Ratchet's point, well now we knew how loud Ratch was really yelling because even Megatron could hear him through our comm link.
"You can provide Unicorn's exact coordinates?" Optimus questioned, that's what he and everyone else here had gotten from that last statement and I think we're about to make Ratchet extremely angry in the next five or so minutes. "Only if you transport us to this planet's core, I can lead you directly into Unicorn's spark… the very heart of his darkness." Megatron confirmed for the Prime. Everyone was still inputting their opinions on the matter so we still hadn't come to a decision, "Optimus, even if we survive the jump, how are we supposed to stop Unicron?" Arcee asked, her question hung in the air for a while as Optimus decided how he should respond.
He'd been turned to us to listen to what we had to say but now he had returned himself to face Megatron, who gave a small nod and Optimus finally spoke. "With the Matrix of Leadership." Optimus responded and that sent everyone into confusion, I already knew what it was but I didn't understand why we were using it to destroy Unicorn. Well, I did but I didn't. "It was the combined power of the Primes that defeated Unicorn so long ago, the very reason he now seeks to destroy you." Megatron said as he stepped towards Optimus so that they were now faceplates to faceplates again, it didn't feel like we were in the conversation but only here to watch it happen in real time. "It would follow that unleashing the power of the Matrix directly into Unicorn's spark would return him to stasis." Optimus said, but I knew he had no idea what would happen to him after he unleashed the Matrix's power, who he would be after that.
There was yet another silence between all of us as Optimus was deep in thought, the only thing that could be heard was the movement of rocks coming back towards the pile of them that had once been the giant Unicorn Megatron destroyed moments ago. Our group of four turned to look at what was happening, only to see the giant rising again as if nothing had happened to it at all. "We got another one!" Bulkhead yeled to Optimus and Megatron. "Ratchet, send the ground bridge." Optimus yelled over the rumbling of the rocks and dust that were moving past us in a hurried order to reform into the giant of earlier.
The ground bridge opened behind me, Bulk, Cee and Bee, I was ready to be home instead of here but Arcee stopped us so she could ask another question. "This really isn't the time." I thought as Cee asked Optimus. "Wait. we're opening up a direct path into our base with Megatron standing right there?" Arcee questioned, "And seriously, he's gonna risk his own spark to save us?" Bulkhead added. "This really isn't the time guys, we're going to probably die in the next forty five seconds if we don't get our tailpipes into the ground bridge and back to base." I thought as Megatron laughed, "Hardly my nature." Megatron said to the many questions the team had just produced. I was already dragging Arcee, Bulkhead and Bumblebee through the portal when Megatron said to consider his offer and vaulted into the air and transformed to keep the giant busy while we escaped. "Hardly his nature indeed." I muttered as I pushed the four of them through the bridge with Optimus following close behind.
The moment we stepped through, I could tell everyone was expecting Megatron to follow with us but alas he wasn't here, well that was yet. Optimus still needed to come to a decision. The ground bridge whirled to a close behind us as Ratchet powered it off and turned to look at us. " Ratchet, you need to reopen it so we can send Megatron through." was the first thing out of Optimus' in take after we stepped through the ground bridge and into a room full of people and bots that were not beyond the idea of bringing the warlord here. "I know that desperate times call for desperate measures, but bringing Megatron here?" Ratchet yelled again, clearly it was not a good idea to bring up the topic.
"How can you even think about letting that monster near these children after what he did to Raf?" June added from the near the elevator, she, Fowler and the kids were up there with them. Raf was standing in front of June and she had her hands on his shoulders as she yelled at us. "Megatron has done something to everyone in this room over the past eons, taken family to his side or to the after life, used his armies against us. I get your concern but the mech who has been attempting to extinguish Optimus' spark since he got the title of Prime just stood next to him and held a conversation for the past tenish minutes without trying to kill any one of us, no matter how much we angered him." I countered. Though I still wasn't completely onboard with the whole idea Optimus still needed backup in an argument against his friends and family and I was here to provide it. "He will be closely monitored and only allowed to stay long enough to send us on our journey. Not one moment more." Optimus reassured.
"What's going to stop the Con from calling in an airstrike if he knows where you live?" Fowler countered but he didn't understand the complexity of Ground bridging someone half around the world and them not having any radio communications inside these walls. "If we ground bridge Megatron here, he will be unable to get a fix on our coordinates." Optimus reassured Fowler before getting another question from Jack this time. "Optimus, what's going to happen to you when all your Matrix energy is released?" Jack asked, which was a good question that I was sure many others in this room wanted to know, I on the other hand already had an idea of what Optimus thought.
He had no idea what was going to happen to him after using the Matrix on Unicron, "The power of the Matrix has not been previously utilized in this particular manner." Optimus started, before he was interrupted by Jack again. "But you have an idea, don't you?" Jack asked, somewhere along the time of Jack asking his question had Optimus turned around to face the ground bridge instead of us. "Autobots, if humankind is to be saved… I have no choice but to proceed." Optimus started, he turned around to face us, everyone standing huddled in a group listening to what he had to say. "But you do. " Optimus finished as he surveyed each of us.
Bee and I looked towards Agent Fowler, June and the kids, they'd been something of family to us since I'd stumbled helm first back into this war and I couldn't imagine a future without them in my life anymore, "Well, I don't know about humankind, but I'm willing to do it… for Miko." Bulkhead said, "For jack." Arcee added. ":For Raf:" Bee buzzed, I didn't have a human yet but they'd all been little trouble makers. "And I'll do it for all three of you punks." I said to them with a smile on my dermas. The four of us were turned to look at them as Ratchet and Optimus went to ground bridge controls to send a ground bridge to Megatron, Optimus was on the comm link to talk to him. "Alright all five of you need to get out of sight before Megatron gets here." I said, June and Fowler nodded their heads and brought Jack and Raf down the stairs with them. Jack was gripping to Miko who didn't want to leave, Jack got her all the way down the steps before she broke loose and Ratchet had to push her towards the other's in the hallway beside the ground bridge. "No fair! I've never seen him! Why do we have to hide?" She complained"
"Because I said so!" Ratchet responded, the ground bridge lit up just as he finished talking and the five of us were already on the case, Me, Cee, Bee and Bulk were standing at the back and Optimus was at the front to greet Megatron first as he came through the bridge. Ratchet joined our little group after finally pushing Miko into their hiding spot and joined the rest of us behind Optimus as Megatron's figure appeared at the back of the portal's framework. Everyone transformed their blasters as we watched him come through, I pulled my words out of their case and Optimus and Ratchet remained the only ones to not have a weapon armed.
"So, this is where the magic happens. Quaint." Megatron said after he'd stepped out of the bridge, everyone's blaster's were trained on him in case he made any sudden movements. It wasn't too long after he'd finished talking that we heard small footsteps approaching fast, I turned my helm to see who was coming and everyone had come out of hiding, with Raf in the lead to greet Megatron. "I'm honestly surprised Miko wasn't the first out." I muttered, "You!" Raf said as soon as he got in the audio receptor shot of Megatron and the rest of us. "Ah!" Megatron started when he saw the kids and June and Fowler, he turned to greet them and I jumped in front of him to stop him from making any sudden movements towards them or shoot them. "You're looking much better than the last time we met, little one. Humans… resilient. " Megatron said to Raf as Jack grabbed his shoulder and turned him away from Megatron.
"Come on, Raf. he isn't worth it." Jack said as he passed Raf to his mother before taking a long look at Megatron. Probably attempting to get his point across. Before turning around to leave with his mom and Raf, "And you." Megatron siad which seemed to stop Jack in his tracks. "I never forget a face- even that of a human." Megatron finished, Jack didn't do anything, he didn't even stop and turn to face Megatron but instead brushed him off and continued walking back towards their hiding spot.
"You double cross anyone, Mine is the face you'll never forget. Never!" Miko shouted at him before she was restrained by Fowler and carried back towards their hiding spot with a lot of grunting as she tried to escape his gasp. I moved back to face Megatron, who still had his optics on the retreating humans. "Ratchet. Obtain the destination coordinates from our guest." Optimus said, Megatron brushed past him and went towards the ground bridge controls as Ratchet and the rest of us followed. We kept our weapons trained on him as Megatron tapped the keys on the keyboard and inputted the coordinates before returning to the ground bridges side as we awaited Optimus to return from wherever he had disappeared off to.
"Locked and ready." Ratchet said as the ground bridge whirled to life and the blue swirling vortex appeared in its framework. I put my swords away and the others untransformed their basters and as I looked into the portal, Arcee stepped forward to send Megatron through first. "You first." She said to the war lord, "As you wish." He replied placing one servo over his spark and giving a small bow before turning and walking through the portal and disappeared. The rest of us looked behind to give silent goodbyes to the kids and June plus Fowler, who had come out of hiding again to see us off. Arcee and I were the first two in after Megatron.
But as we walked through the ground bridge's limbo state Optimus walked past us to come out after Megatron. When we popped through the portal and into Unicron's body, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. Strings of membrane and wires pumped dark energon from his heart to the rest of his system. Different complaints of his vital system literate the walls and area we were in. Arcee stepped forward to meet Optimus and Megatron who were standing ahead of us, "So, how long before Unicorn knows we're here?" She asked the warlord. "Make no mistake- he already does." Megatron said before he and Optimus started walking along the membrane we were standing on, the silence between all of us let the rhythmic beating of Unicron's sprak continue in the background. The only other thing that was making noise was our padsteps on the metal of the membrane.
