Author's Note #1:

Inspired by those that are shown on some home media releases of the main movie, I present to you my short, in the form of a mini story; "Picking Up Tracks," which takes place on Thursday, July 29th, 2010.

Flynn Rider: This is the story of how we got fired.

Nathan Rosenberg: Fired?

Flynn: OK, so we were a bit late for class.

Nathan: More like an hour late. And to think today started like any other.

Flynn: Yep, and it would've been another one of those smooth train rides from here to Menlo Park...if it wasn't for one derailing situation, which began with a halt.

"Hey, why'd we stop?" I asked.

As if in response, a voice said from the speaker. "Uh, folks, we seem to be having some technical difficulties. So just sit back, releax or try to remain calm, and we'll have this train up and running again in no ti..."

Before that voice could finish, a scuffle was heard.

"Will a Mr. Flynn Rider come up to the front, please?" asked another voice.

"Why would a conductor call for a wanted man like you?" I asked.

Flynn shrugged. "Ah, he probably needs help restarting the train."

"And do you know a thing or two about trains?" I asked.

"All I do know..." replied Eugene, who got out of his seat. "...is that I can get this train back on track in no time."

As I watched him leave, I anxiously looked at my watch.

Flynn: Once I made it to the front of the train, I asked. "You wanted to see me, Mr. Conduct..."

I stopped short upon seeing the conductor and engineer restrained by Otter, who said. "Yeah, you bet we wanted to see ya."

When he said "we," I saw that he was referring to Lady Caine and the rest of the gang, who were all inside the same room.

"Fellas! Long time, no see!" I exclaimed. "How's life been treating you this summer? Good? Bad?"

In response, the guys pointed their swords at me.

"That bad, huh?"

Caine chuckled sinsterly. "Nothing compared to what's in store for you, Rider."

"Now, now, Caine. Caine? Let's not do anything we might regret." I said.

"Regret this!" fumed Caine, who swung her sword at me.

But at the last second, I dodged it, only to do the same for the guys who swung their own swords at me when I turned to the control panel, then to the conductor and engineer, who gave me a nod.

Nathan: Back inside the passenger car, I was starting to wonder what was taking Flynn so long when the train started to gradually move.

"Finally!"

But then, it stopped again.

"Aw, come on!"

Flynn: I tried to start the train again, but every time I do, I ended up getting tackled by Caine's crew.

Nathan: While trying to find Flynn, the train jolted like a switch going on and off.

"What...is going...on...in there?"

"Enough games, Rider!" Caine said as she stopped the train and pointed her sword at me. "Now give us the bag or we'll slice you to pieces."

"You know, it's funny you should mention that." I said. "Because I...seem to have...misplaced it?"

Caine smirked. "Search him, boys. He's obviously lying."

As the gang closed in on me, I noticed a throttle lever, which I pulled up, resulting in the train to go faster, thrusting Caine and her gang back.

Even Nathan and the other passengers tried to hold on for dear life.

When Caine saw that I escaped through the window, she said to her men. "Spread out!"

I climbed up to the top of the train, thinking I'll be safe there, but I, soon, thought wrong, for Caine's cronies came charging at me, swinging their weapons, which I dodged while trying to keep myself from falling or, in the guys' case, being knocked off, which was what happened to them when they found themselves stuck into a tree.

"RIDER!" cried Sideburns as the train rolled by.

While giving out a two-finger salute, I heard a sword being unsheathed...by Caine, who swung at me again.

While trying to make the dodge, I slipped, landing on my back.

"You've ridden your last roller coaster, Rider." Caine sneered, pointing her sword at me. "Any last words?"

Before she could strike, however, a loud whistle sounded, causing the two of us to cover our ears.

The train, then, screeched to a halt in Downtown Menlo Park, sending Caine flying towards the garbage can and me crashing through the roof of a nearby taxi cab, where Nathan ran to in a hurry.

"What was going on back there?" he asked, upon entering the cab, where I said wearily. "Less asking, more driving."

"Where to, boys?" asked the driver.

"JobTrain, please." we both replied.

As we rode the taxi away from the Caltrain station, Caine struggled to get the garbage can off her while calling out. "Rider, you cowardly rat! When I get my hands on you, I'm gonna..."

Because Caine has the can covering her, she couldn't see where she was going, causing her to bump into a lamppost.

Nathan: The chefs were just about to start cooking when Flynn and I burst inside the classroom.

On seeing the surprised looks on their faces, we calmly walked up the uniform rack, taking two of them, which we put on while walking into the kitchen.

"What took you so long?" asked Rapunzel.

Flynn looked at me, then at her, then cleared his throat.

"Well, to make a long story short," he explained. "The train was experiencing some technical difficulties."

"And we had to take a taxi here when we got there." I added.

"Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that." said Rapunzel. "Hopefully, the train should be running back to normal during your ride home."

By hearing her said that, I looked at Flynn uneasily, saying. "I'm starting to have a bad feeling about this."

"Well, at least we don't have to wait too long, right?" asked Flynn.

Author's Note #2:

Of course, that's when the credits would come in.

That was, unfortunately, what we did the moment Flynn and I returned to the Caltrain station later that day.

I impatiently looked at my watch while Flynn kept an eye out for our train heading northbound towards home.

He, then, turned to me and asked. "You ever thought about getting a driver's li..."

"Don't push it!" I said through my clenced teeth as a loud whistle sounded far far away from where we were.

Author's Note #3:

And so concludes the hard work I've put into "Nathan Rosenberg: JobTrainee." Hopefully, each Nathan Rosenberg movie that were part of "The School Years," should be a little bit shorter when I publish them, starting with "Nathan Rosenberg: 4th Grader," coming next fall.
