Chapter 36 -
Harry had followed Sif into what looked like a dinner hall, Padfoot had been following along at Harry's side. Once they entered they got a few odd looks from many people, mostly due to Harry's hair and Midgardian clothes, plus Padfoot. Sif either did not notice or ignored the stares, but to the credit of the Asgardian's they only stared briefly before going about their business, or at least looking like they were going about their business.
"Tell me," Sif said as they arrived in a corner. "do you recognize these two?" She asked as she gestured to two people, the first being a jolly looking man with a big beard and round stomach who was eating a chicken leg, the other being a blonde haired man with a goatee and was sitting in-between two fairly attractive women that were both leaning against him as he wrapped his arms around their waists.
"I think so," Harry nodded. "Volstagg, right?" Harry asked as he gestured to the one with the big beard.
"Yes." The man, Volstagg, smiled as he threw away the remaining bone of his chicken leg before picking up another chicken leg. "Pleased to meet you."
"And you would be Fandral, correct?" Harry asked the blonde.
"That is indeed correct." Fandral grinned.
"Woof?" Padfoot barked questioningly at Volstagg while looking at his chicken leg.
"Is there a problem?" Sif frowned.
"Oh it's nothing important, he just wants Volstagg's chicken leg." Harry explained before turning to Padfoot. "You can't have that, it's his food. I will get you something to eat later." Padfoot whined, and lowered his head.
"Oh." The two women with with Fandral cooed. Volstagg looked at his chicken before looking back at Padfoot, his eyes softened.
"Oh here you go." Volstagg sighed before he shook his head and tossed the chicken leg on the floor so it landed in front of Padfoot, Padfoot suddenly grinned before he began eating. "I'm glad you like it." Volstagg said as he petted Padfoot while he was eating.
"Volstagg, Fandral, this is Harry Potter." Sif said as she gestured to Harry. "You may remember him as Grim."
"Ah yes," Volstagg smiled. "we do remember you, you're rather hard to forget."
"And we've heard Thor's stories about you." Fandral commented. "He said you were mighty impressive when fighting against the Chitauri."
"Is it true that Loki feared you?" The girl on Fandral's right asked in an awed voice.
"Either that or he's a good actor." Harry shrugged, wondering just what Thor was telling everyone.
"Did you really fly into the mouth of a giant flying worm?" The girl on Fandral's left asked suddenly.
"It was more of a snake," Harry replied, guessing that she was referring to the giant flying monsters from the battle against the Chitauri. "and forgive me, but who the hell are you two?" Harry asked as he gestured to both women.
"Ladies," Fandral said to the two of them. "I'm really sorry but we need to talk about something important, perhaps I can talk to you both later." The women pouted but nodded and walked off.
"So who the hell were those two?" Harry asked Fandral.
"Honestly?" Fandral asked.
"You forgot, haven't you?" Sif rolled her eyes.
"No!" Fandral said quickly. "Their names are...um...oh I remember, Aasta and Alfdis!" Fandral finished with a smug face.
"Well done, Fandral." Sif smirked. "Now which one was which?" She asked in a challenging voice.
"I..." Fandral paused as he racked his brain while trying to remember. "I...I..."
"I think you broke him." Harry said to an amused looking Sif. "Let me guess, he is one of those guys who sleeps with a new woman every other day?" Harry asked.
"Pretty much." Sif nodded.
"Does he have a name?" Volstagg asked Harry.
"Man-slut would be my guess, but apparently he is called Fandral." Harry replied.
"I meant him." Volstagg said as he gestured to Padfoot while Fandral let out a noise of protest at the 'Man-slut' comment just as Sif chuckled.
"Yes, he is called Padfoot." Harry answered.
"Padfoot?" Volstagg gave Harry a surprised look.
"This is Padfoot?" Fandral asked with a voice that held a hint of disbelief. "The fierce and loyal companion of the mighty Grim? This is the one who ripped out the throats of Chitauri soldiers?" Fandral asked as he looked at Padfoot who was happily licking the remains off of the chicken leg.
"He became a very different animal when the Chitauri refused to share their chicken with him." Harry said dryly, Volstagg seemed to have missed out on the fact that Harry was joking because his eyes suddenly widened and he very quickly reached for another chicken leg before tossing it to Padfoot who happily began eating that too. Sif giggled at that while using her hand to cover her mouth.
"And what happens if you refuse to give him chicken?" Sif asked Harry with an amused smile.
"He acts all cute until I feel bad and then give him one." Harry answered, totally serious. "Anyway, I seem to remember their being another one of you. Because you guys are supposed to be 'Lady Sif and the Warrior's Three', aren't you? Where's the other guy? What was his name...Hogun, that's it, where's Hogun?" Harry asked.
"Hogun is currently in Vanaheim," Volstagg answered. "he is a Vanir and is spending some long over due time with his own people."
"You see he stays with us so often that many people, himself included, sometimes forget that he is not Asgardian." Fandral added with a chuckle. "So, Grim, do tell me how Asgard compares to Midgard?" He asked.
"It is very...different." Harry answered. "I have not really spent much time here yet," Harry admitted. "so far I would have to say that it looks very beautiful, and the majority of people seem alright. Though one thing I am interested in knowing about is magic, what's is Asgardian magic like?" Harry asked curiously.
"Magic is something that Asgardians have studied extensively for many, many years." Sif replied. "Asgardian's do not see their magic as some elusive mystical energy like I am told most Midgardians do, in Asgard it is simply just considered to be a very advanced field of science and part of every living being. Our transportation, architecture, weapons and even medical care are based upon using a blend of magical forces and technology."
"Hmm, and how good are you all at magic?" Harry asked.
"If you are interested in magic then I would advise speaking to the Allfather or the Queen," Sif responded. "they are currently regarded as the best magic users, followed by Loki." She said, adding the last part reluctantly, looking as if it pained her to admit that.
"Really?" Harry frowned at that. "What about Thor? I mean...surely all that lightning he summons must be very advanced magic."
"It is indeed powerful magic," Fandral nodded. "Thor has a lot of power but he was born with the ability to throw lighting bolts whenever he wants and controlling the weather and so on and so forth."
"Yes," Sif nodded. "Thor never spent much time learning about magic like Loki did, he wanted to be a warrior."
"I don't understand," Harry replied. "if he wanted to be a warrior then shouldn't he have learnt more magic?"
"Asgardians mostly only learn specific magic for specific purposes," Sif explained. "for example a healer would learn as much healing magic as possible."
"Yes," Fandral said. "we for the most prefer to stick with our weapons like swords and shields. Not many learn more magic than necessary to get around."
"And why is that?" Harry raised an eyebrow.
"Well...magic is considered to be..." Fandral trailed off as he tried to think up the right word.
"What?"
"Well...feminine." Fandral answered with a small shrug of his shoulders. "Not really a warrior sort of thing."
"Feminine?" Harry repeated as he gave Fandral a 'are you fucking kidding me?' look, one that was mirrored by Padfoot. "Magic is considered feminine?" Harry asked, words had not yet been invented to describe the high levels of disbelief that Harry was currently experiencing.
"Well...yes." Fandral said awkwardly.
"Magic...is...'not really a warrior sort of thing'?"
"Well, sort of." Volstagg coughed.
"Magic...feminine...magic is not for warriors?" Harry repeated, wondering if he had heard right. "I should point out that with my magic I have killed more Chitauri than any of the other Avengers, including Thor."
"Oh finally, another person who shares my belief." A voice said, Harry and the group turned to see a woman standing in front of them. She was dressed in a mixture of blue and gold and wore a single sided gold breastplate, she had a few wrinkles on her face but did not look very old, she looked middle aged. She had brown long hair that in certain lights could look red, she had a kind smile on her face.
"My Queen." Sif said as she bowed while Volstagg and Fandral got up and quickly bowed. It was not missed by anyone that Harry did not bow, not even when Sif nudged him.
"You do not bow?" The Queen asked Harry without any anger, sounding more curious than anything else.
"I'm a big believer in earning respect." Harry shrugged as the others finished bowing.
"Hmm," The Queen gave him an appraising look. "I am Frigga, Queen of Asgard." She said, introducing herself.
"Harry Potter." Harry nodded. "So you are Thor's mother then?"
"That I am," Frigga smiled. "I'm sorry for interrupting your conversation, but I do get very interested when magic is mentioned."
"Ok but what is wrong with everyone when they decide they prefer swords to magic?" Harry couldn't help but ask.
"I wish I knew," Frigga sighed. "though if I had to guess I would say that many do not have the talent or natural born abilities for the more advanced aspects of magic and preferred to stick to swords, and while nearly everybody can do magic, many do not appreciate it since it has become such a common aspect of life."
"I understand." Harry said softly, the people in the wizarding world did not really appreciate magic. Even the muggleborns after a certain amount of time just got used to it, for most people it simply became a regular part of life, like homework and clothes.
"When Thor was a child he also preferred to know the bare minimum of magic," Frigga continued. "which is partly why I spent a lot of my teaching Loki." She added, a hint of sadness in her tone at the mention of Loki, she shook her head before she continued smiling. "Have you met my husband yet?" She asked.
"Yes." Harry nodded.
"And?"
"I don't think he likes me." Harry shrugged.
"Ah," She said, not sounding very surprised. "is the feeling mutual?"
"Very." Harry nodded.
"Well that is a shame." She frowned. "May I ask why?"
"He thinks that I am disrespectful, which I admittedly am when I want to be, and sometimes even when I don't want to be." Harry answered. "I think that he has forgotten that he is not an immortal and that the value of life is not dependent on how long it lasts."
"Hmm, many Asgardians have forgotten their own mortality, that is not a problem that is strictly limited to my husband." Frigga replied. Harry found some respect growing for the Queen, at least she could admit mistakes, that puts her above a lot of people Harry had met. Frigga looked thoughtful, she looked at Harry as if seeing through him. "You have lost someone." She said knowingly, quietly.. "I've seen the look in your eyes, I've seen it in the eyes of many before you, I am sorry for your loss." She said in an honest voice, Harry stared at her for several moments before he spoke.
"Thank you." He said quietly.
"You're welcome," She nodded at him before turning to the others. "perhaps you should continue to show our guest around." She suggested.
"Um...right." Volstagg quickly got up. "Um...perhaps we should take him for some sparring practice."
"Oh that sounds like a good idea, let's see what the mighty Grim can do." Fandral smiled as he clapped his hands together.
"Woof." Padfoot barked as he stood up.
"I think that means he wants to go as well."
"It does." Harry nodded.
"Excellent, let's go." Fandral said before he walked off with Volstagg following him, Padfoot followed the two with Sif. Sif paused after a few moments of walking and looked back, she saw that Harry was still standing in front of Frigga. She watched as Harry leaned forward and bowed to Frigga before he stood up straight and nodded at her before walking towards Sif.
"You waiting for me?" Harry asked as he stopped next to her.
"Yes," Sif answered before they began walking after the rest. "if I may, can I know your opinion on the Queen?" She asked.
"Would you like the long answer or the short one?" Harry asked.
"I wouldn't mind either, but the short answer would suffice." Sif responded.
"I don't dislike her."
A few minutes later Harry found himself in a training ground, he was standing inside a a sandy area, stood in a bit marked by a white circle while Padfoot, Sif, Fandral and Volstagg were stood outside of the circle on Harry's right side. Opposite them on Harry's left side were a group of about twenty Asgardian soldiers.
"Remind me what I'm supposed to be doing again." Harry said to the group.
"It is important for an Asgardian to keep sharp and to always practice." Volstagg replied. "And who better for them to practice with than you?"
"Exactly," Fandral nodded. "they'll just come out one at a time then you and your opponent will battle it out until one of you is unable to continue, then the winner can go on to the next person. We want to see how long the mighty Grim can last." Fandral grinned.
"Fine," Harry sniffed before looking at the Asgardian soldiers. "how strong and durable are they?" Harry asked.
"Not quite the level of Thor or even myself and the Warrior's Three," Sif answered. "they shouldn't be too much of a problem for you."
"Alright," Harry said as he rolled his shoulders. "let's go." He added when his wand flicked into his hand. Padfoot whined before he lowered his head and covered his eyes with his paws.
A short while later Padfoot had removed his paws and saw the Asgardian soldiers were all groaning in a pile outside of the circle, the two members of the Warrior's Three were looking suitably impressed by Harry who was standing, looking as bored as can be.
Harry had guessed that each Asgardian he had just fought and Steve would be roughly the same level of strength, speed, stamina, etc. Though the Asgardians would probably be a bit better. However all that physical strength meant nothing when their opponent was able to take them out before they got close. Of course Harry knew that it would be different if they had used any of their long distance weapons.
"Grim." Harry heard Lady Sif call as she entered the white circle while holding a sword, it wasn't her usual sword, Sif's usual sword was a unique, straight bladed sword with a shaped edge, with a handle long enough to be used with one or both hands. The one she held in her hands was a simple broadsword. "that was impressive, though perhaps we can see how you can fight with a regular weapon." She said as she gestured to a rack full of swords.
"If that's what you want." Harry said as his wand disappeared. The body of his armour appeared over him, he pulled a black katana out of it before his armor disappeared. "Don't worry," Harry said as his clothes shifted so the only thing he was wearing on his upper body was a black T-Shirt. "this sword isn't magical at all." Harry said as he took a fighting stance.
"I'll take your word for it." Sif said as she also got into a fighting stance. "Are you ready?"
"As I will ever be." Harry answered.
Sif did not waste time and charged straight at him, she swung her sword down at Harry who side stepped to avoid it, Harry swiped at her but she was quickly able to block it with her own sword. She swung the sword at his midsection but Harry was able to jump back to avoid it. She swung for his left foot but Harry lifted his right foot up and slammed it down on top of the sword, pushing the tip to the ground.
"You're good." Harry complimented her as he put his other foot on the sword as well.
"Thank you." She said before using her brute strength to push the sword upwards, Harry pushed off of the sword into a backflip, he landed as gracefully as a cat and quickly rushed forwards, Sif managed to block him in time, she swung for his head, Harry ducked and went for her leg. She stepped back to avoid the strike and with a speed that Harry did not expect she went for his head. Harry leaned back but the sword left a big cut on the side of his face.
Sif saw the cut and was on the verge of apologizing when Harry looked at her with a smirk, she jumped back so she was out of his reach. She watched as the cut healed before her very eyes. With a quick shake of his head Harry was back into a fighting stance.
He charged at her and swung his sword at her head, Sif raised her own weapon to block when Harry's sword suddenly changed directions and went for her midsection. She jumped back, barely avoiding it, but Harry seemed to have expected that because the sword had swung all the way around so the handle was now facing her, Harry slammed the sword handle into her midsection, pushing her back a few steps.
"Impressive." Sif smiled at him.
"You drew first blood, had to make you pay." Harry smirked before he charged at the her.
"My friend," Fandral whispered to Volstagg. "it appears to me that the lovely Lady Sif is enjoying herself."
"I concur," Volstagg agreed as he looked at Sif who was focused on Harry while also allowing herself brief smiles in-between swinging her sword "what about you? What do you think?" Volstagg asked Padfoot.
"Woof." Padfoot barked and nodded at the same time.
"What did he say?" Fandral asked.
"I'm guessing that he agreed with us." Volstagg relied, earning another from Padfoot.
Sif and Harry continued, not noticing hearing anyone else, including the Asgardians that Harry had previously beat who were watching the two along with some other Asgardians that had wondered over to watch. The only sounds that Harry and Sif were really focused on were the sounds of their weapons, and the sounds coming from their opponent. Harry grunted when he blocked a particularly powerful strike from Sif, Harry was fairly decent at using a sword but he didn't have Sif's years of experience or superior strength, unless he was willing to use his rage mode, which he was not.
Harry jumped back to avoid one strike, he kneeled down to avoid another, he grabbed a handful of the sand underneath him and tossed it into the air. Sif closed her eyes and covered her face with one hand, once she was sure that she had not caught any sand in her eyes she opened her eyes only to see that Harry was not in sight. She quickly guessed where he was most likely to be and span around, only to stop upon feeling Harry's blade pressed against her throat.
"I win." Harry smirked at her before he lowered his weapon, allowing it to disappear.
"You cheated!" Sif protested
"Of course," Harry nodded. "most of my fights have been to the death so I have gotten into the habit of trying to think and act in way's my opponent won't predict. You're body is superior to mine in strength, even if it wasn't then you would still beat me in skill. I freely admit that, you're an excellent warrior, not one I would face in a sword fight." Harry said, Sif looked mad for a second before her features softened.
"Thank you." She nodded at him, glad for the compliment.
"I don't compliment people who don't deserve it." Harry replied. "I am curious, is Pikachu as good with swords as you?"
"Pikachu?" Sif asked.
"Oh sorry," Harry apologized. "I sometimes call Thor 'Pikachu' in my head." He admitted in a slightly embarrassed voice.
"What is Pikachu?" Sif asked, raised an eyebrow.
"It's a fictional creature with lightning attacks," Harry explained, "here." He said as he waved his wand and created a small colored drawing of Pikachu and handed it to Sif.
"Oh my...that is adorable!" She blurted out before a huge smile appeared on her face.
"It's a Pokémon." Harry added.
"A what?"
"Let me explain."
A.N: Hi guys, hope you liked the chapter. I know not much happened, but next chapter will go back to the actual story. If anyone is wondering where the Pikachu came from, it was just a video I saw where someone had took some Thor scenes and just had Pikachu speaking whenever Thor spoke and I just couldn't get it out of my head. Thanks for reading, feel free to leave a review and enjoy the Omakes.
P.S: Read the bottom part.
Omake 1:
Odin walked towards Harry's room, he didn't care who the guy was but he was not going to allow anyone to be the master of his daughter. He opened the door and walked in.
"Listen Potter I..." Odin froze when he saw Harry sitting on a chair with Hela kneeling next to him while wearing a collar and dog ears but nothing else. "...am having a heart attack." Odin finished before he fell to the floor.
Omake 2:
"I can't believe him." Tony growled.
"What's up?" Rhodey asked.
"Harry's messed with my suit," Tony explained. "I tried hacking into some speakers to play some AC/DC when suddenly my little Pony starts playing."
"That sounds rough." Rhodey commented before flying upwards, only to stop when the theme song for Dora the explorer started playing from his suit.
Omake 3 (got the idea from Devildestroyer) :
"Guys this is my boyfriend," Morgan said, introducing her boyfriend to Harry, Steve, Padfoot and Bucky. "I am going to get my handbag and we are going for a date." She smiled before walking out.
"Um Hi." The boyfriend said awkwardly, only to jump back slightly when Padfoot growls.
"What's your name you little dog shit?" Harry asked.
"Um...it's Reggie."
"Your hands had better stay at a respectable distance." Steve said as he crossed his arms.
"You will not make her upset, otherwise my finger may slip on the trigger" Bucky says as he loads his gun.
"Because if you don't treat her like a princess tonight," Harry says as he twirls his wand. "I will rip your cock off."
"Hi guys." Morgan says as she comes back in five minutes later, to find Padfoot and Steve smiling at her while Bucky and Harry are innocently wiping some dust off the shoulder's off Reggie who is frozen solid with fear.
A.N: Hi guys, I don't normally do a second A.N but I just wanted to say something. I had finished writing this yesterday but wasn't able to upload it until today, but this morning I read some very bad news. For those who don't know (I'm not sure how you can't know at this point) the actor who plays Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, has passed away. It was from colon cancer from what I have read.
Now I admit that I have not seen each and every single thing he has ever been in, but in my opinion the man was a great actor and a great person who was taken before his time. I don't know how true this is but I have read that he apparently had been acting in-between and during surgeries and chemotherapy sessions. Like...just wow. I am fortunate enough to not have cancer or need surgeries or any chemotherapy sessions so I have no real idea what that's like but it doesn't sound like an easy thing to do (probably an understatement, I know).
I just think people should remember what's important, remember that life is precious, it's also kind of scary about how short it can be. But like I had Harry say earlier, it's not about how long it lasts. I wish you all the best of luck in life, and I hope that your lives are happy ones.
I'm going to keep this short and sweet and simply say he was a brilliant man and an inspiration to many people, I wish his friends and family all the best. May he rest in peace, he has left his mark on the world and he will be remembered, death is not the end. Long live the King.
Thank you.
