"This is my wife Jane Rizzoli." Maura says wrapping her arm around the brunettes waist. "Hello." The timid woman says. "Hello." Jane says putting her hand out for the woman to shake. "How about we take this into the livingroom." Maura suggests. Once they are seated Jane begins to speak.
"So you're here for Harper right?" Jane ask not thrilled about the situation. "Yes, Mrs. Rizzoli that's correct." Mary says adjusting herslef trying not to be intimated by the brunette. "It seems that her mother is a drug addict and doesn't want custody of the child." The woman states. "Harper." Jane says. "Excuse me?" Mary says not understanding. "Harper, the child as you put it." "Her name is Harper." Jane says clinching her jaw. Maura was a little embarrassed by her wife's attitude but was proud that she was standing up for Harper.
"I'm sorry I didnt mean to offend." Mary said apologetically. Maura reaches for her wife's hand to settle her down. "Does Harper have any other family?" Maura ask sadly. "Well, she does but they don't seem to want to take responsibility for the- for Harper." The woman says sadden. "Seriously?" Jane says angrily. "How could they not want to be apart of her life?" "Shes so sweet and smart and respectful." Jane replys pacing the livingroom. "So what is going to happen from here?" Maura ask quizzically.
"Well given the circumstances I will have to take her with me and place her into the states custody to be placed into Foster care." Mary says looking down. This was the part she hated the most. "Wait you have to take her tonight?" Jane asked with sad eyes. "Unfortunately yes." Mary exclaims. "You have got to be shitting me!" Jane says fuming. "Jane! Language!" Maura reprimanded her wife then apologized to the woman. "I'm sorry for my wife's outburst." Maura says giving the woman a reassuring smile. "No need to apologize, this is never easy for anyone involved no matter the amount of time." Mary states trying to ease Jane's worries. "I'm sorry but I should really get Harper and get going." The woman says standing. "Wait!". Maura says abruptly. "Let me make a few phone calls first." Maura says getting up and grabbing her cell. "Give me 10 minutes." "Please." Maura begs. The woman sighs but agrees.
Jane and Mary sit in silence until Harper runs to Jane. She stops abruptly seeing that Jane had company. "I'm sorry." The little voice says. "I'm Harper!" She says putting her hand out for the stranger to shake. The woman couldn't help but smile. "Hello Harper, I'm Mary." "Hello Mrs.Mary." Harper says turning her attention back to Jane.
"Mrs. Jane?" Harper ask sweetly. "Hey kiddo what's up?" Jane says smiling at the lite girl. "I wanted to ask you and Mrs. Maura if I.." Harper stops for a minute thinking over her question. "What is it Harper, it's okay you can ask." Jane says placing her hand on Harper's shoulder. "I wanted to ask if it would be okay to go sleep over at Mrs. Rizzoli's with Ethan?" Jane didn't know how to answer. "Uh, well sweetie how about you go and play and when Mrs. Maura comes we will talk it over and call for you when we've decided okay?" Jane ask Harper trying not to let her sadness convey.
"Okay!" Harper says excitedly. "Bye Mrs.Mary it was nice meeting you." The little girl says before running back outside. Jane sighs and rubs the back of her neck trying to figure out how she is going to tell that sweet little girl that she couldn't stay with them anymore. Just as Jane is about to stand to start packing up Harper's things Maura enters again. "I have made a few calls one being the Governor." "And?" Jane ask with hopeful eyes. "And." Maura says.
"Arrangements will be made for Harper to stay with us as our foster for the time being." "We will go tomorrow and fill out all the necessary paperwork." Maura says looking at Jane who's smile at that moment could stop the world on its axis. "Oh man you are amazing Maur." Jane says with relief hugging her wife. "Well." Says the small woman. "I guess that concludes my visit then." "Yeah I guess it kind of does." Jane says with a half smile. "Well it was nice meeting you both." Mary says standing to shake their hands. "Uh yeah you too." Jane says walking the woman to the door.
After the door shuts Jane scoops Maura up into her arms. Maura wraps her legs around the brunettes waist. Jane kisses her deeply. "You are the most amazing woman ever." Jane says holding her wife tightly. "I couldn't just let her go." Maura says with a smile. "Well I guess we should go break the news to little miss out there that she will be staying with us for awhile and that she can go spend the night with Ma and Ethan. Jane says placing her wife back down.
Maura laughs lightly. "I guess we should." The blonde says taking her wife's hand to walk back outside. "Hey Harper can we talk to for a minute?" Jane calls out. "Sure." Replies Harper. She races over to Jane and Maura Angela and Ethan following. "So Harper." "Um remember the lady you met inside a few minutes ago?" Jane ask Harper nods. "Well she was here to pick you up." Jane says watching the lite girls reaction.
Harper speaks softly. "But I don't want to leave." She says sadly. "Are you all aren't my real family but it feels like you are." Jane lifts the little girl into her lap with Maura sitting behind her. Jane takes a minute to wipe a single tear from the child's face. "Well Harper what would you say if we told you that you will be staying with us for awhile?" The little girls face lit up instantly. "Really?!" She says excitedly. "If that's what you want, yes." Maura chimes in sweetly.
The little girl had no words she just threw herself against Jane and wrapped her tiny arms around the brunettes neck. Jane and Maura and Angela chuckle. "I guess that's a yes then?" Maura ask rubbing the child's back. Harper could only nod. Jane smiled at her mother who was wiping away a few tears of her own. She loved how her daughter, altho a strong cop could be so sweet and soft when it came to children. "So does that mean I can stay the night with Mrs. Rizzoli and Ethan?" Harper asked hopeful. "Yes sweetie." Maura said smiling. "You can spend the night with them." The little girl squealed and jumped out of Jane's lap and ran around the table to Angela. "Did you hear?" "I get to stay!" Harper said with excitement. "Yes sweetie I heard that is fantastic." Angela answered with a smile.
As the night came to an end Angela took both kids home with her. Jane and Maura both showered then settled outside on the swing with beer and wine. Maura sat between Jane's legs. They both sat in silence for a few moments.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Maura said softly caressing her wife's arm. "Today was great." Jane said. Maura knew there would be a but. "But." Jane said with a heavy sigh. "We still have to solve this case for Adam." "And once that's done I have to make arrangements for his burial." Jane said with another heavy sigh. "We." Maura said turning her head towards her wife. "Huh?" Jane said confused.
"You siad you have to make arrangements as in you alone." "But you wont be alone I'm going to help so its we have to make arrangements for him." Maura clarified with a smile. "You are the greatest woman alive Maura Rizzoli." "I dont know how I made it through life before you." Jane says placing a soft kiss on her wife's forehead. "Well you will never ever have to find that out." Maura says snuggling back into her wife. "Thank god for that." Jane says smiling. "Because I would be lost in this big world without you." The brunette says wrapping her wife in her arms tightly.
