"The higher my hope reigns, we hold on to our hopes and dreams tonight! The higher my hope reigns, we hold on to our hopes and dreams tonight!" Asriel cheerfully sung, while Marie started on guitar. Sans had told Marie that, whatever instruments were used in your theme, you could play. She wanted to test that theory while she slept. Even if she wore herself out here, she would wake up refreshed and well rested. She managed to convince a few people to play with her, and they were singing a song for Asriel. "You ran your moral ground, taking on the darkest road. A story left untold, don't you leave me again. We played our very own games, our choices left our marks! We reunite, and I can't afford to leave you again. But now we stand apart, your friends are in my heart! You try to fly, but hope will die, along with your devices. Compromises hold suprises, right underneath my sleeves, you wouldn't ever believe, WHAT I HAVE BECOME! THE HIGHER MY HOPE REIGNS, WE HOLD ONTO OUR HOPES AND DREAMS TONIGHT!" Marie, Undyne, who was on the multisound piano, and Frisk, who was on the back up singing, and Papyrus, who was on the drums, all joined in unison. "HOPES AND DREAMS TONIGHT!" Asriel continued. "WE DREAM ON FOR OUR LIVES, WE SURFACE THROUGH THE DARKENED CAVES TONIGHT! WE HIBERNATE FROM THE ONES WE BLAMED, BUT THE DISTANCE HAS PROVED THAT ONE MAN'S DREAMS, CAN DREAM ON FOREVER!" At the end of the verse, all of them stopped because Marie was about to wake up. "Those were some sick riffs back there, punk!" Undyne complimented Marie. Marie smiled and said, "You did amazing at the piano too!" "Thanks punk!" Undyne now had Marie in a headlock and began to noogie her. "Don't noogie the human!" Marie jokingly said, while Undyne released her. "You did great, Papyrus!" "NYEH HEH HEH! OF COURSE I DID GREAT, FOR I AM THE GREAT PAPYRUS!" Papyrus loudly replied. After saying goodbye, everyone faded away, and Marie could see a memory. It was Sans, but she was seeing through her eyes. It wasn't just a picture this time, though. She watched as Papyrus in Snowdin, as Sans had said where that was, was talking to Frisk. Frisk's eyes were a red with black, and they had a disturbing smile on their face. "I WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS!" Papyrus exclaimed, and Frisk rushed forward. They hugged Papyrus, but then used their knife to slice his head off. Papyrus' head fell to the ground, the rest of him turning to dust, as he said, "W-WELL, THAT'S NOT WHAT I EXPECTED...B-BUT, S-STILL! I BELIEVE IN YOU! YOU CAN DO A LITTLE BETTER!" He said, and Frisk put their foot on his skull, and crushed it with Papyrus making a grunt as they did. It broke Marie's heart. Sans rushed forward to his dust after Frisk walked off, and grabbed Papyrus' scarf. He pressed the scarf to his face while sobbing. Now, Marie could see Sans from a third person view, and his eye was blazing while crying. "That damn PLAYER...THAT LITTLE BRAT!" He screamed, making Marie's heart feel like it was breaking all over again. Then, the scenery flashed, and she was now in a hall with the possessed Frisk and Sans. Sans was now wearing his brother's scarf, and he asked the PLAYER. "So, I've got a question for ya. Do you think even the worst person can change? That everyone can be a good person if they just try?" The PLAYER said nothing. "Well, here's a better question. Do you wanna have a bad time? Cause, if you take another step forward, you are NOT gonna like what happens next." The entity took another step forward. "Welp. Sorry, old lady. This is why I never make promises. It's a beautiful day outside. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming...on days like these, kids like you...SHOULD BE BURNING IN HELL." After that, Marie woke up. She was panting and crying once she did, and a faint growl rose in her chest. She could hear Sans walk up to her. "That's why I told you to cut Frisk some slack. They didn't mean to kill us. The damn PLAYER just got to the poor kid." Marie felt awful now, and asked Frisk if they could come to her. Frisk asked what was up, and Marie's response was to hug them as tightly as possible. Frisk made a meep noise, and hugged her back. Marie was crying and saying that she was sorry for accusing them of the heinous crime that the PLAYER committed. Marie's SOUL was shining with a new light that shone alike Frisk's did for a moment. After a short moment, Marie could feel a warm and comforting sensation rush through her body. Pure love and HOPE. Marie released Frisk, and they looked at Marie as if she had grown another head. "What?" Marie said, mildly concerned. She felt the sides of her head, but she couldn't feel her normal ears. Marie's eyes flew wide open as she felt the top of her head. Fluffy ears the same color of her hair. And a new tail to go along with it. Now Marie was really freaking out. The time she ran from the spider was just a warm up. She bolted out of the tent as quietly as possible, and ran to Okami's tent. "Okami!" She yelped, and Okami jumped up. "What is it?" She asked, and as Marie looked into the tent and climbed in, Okami looked at her new tail and ears, and was speechless before climbing out with her to yell at a safe distance to not wake anyone up. "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!" Okami shouted, while Marie was running around freaking out like there wasn't going to be a tomorrow. Sans and Undyne were desperately trying to help Marie not freak out, but her mind had other plans. "I DON'T KNOW!" Marie screamed back, and had to punch something. She fisted the tree near her, and it came toppling down with one swing. Okami jumped in suprise as Marie curled up into fetal position and was internally screaming. Sans helped her up and said, "Kid, this comes with being part wolf." Listening to his voice, she realized that it didn't sound like Classic, but more...growly. She looked up, and the Sans that helped her had sharp teeth and a slight color to his eye lights. "Don't think we've met before. I'm Sans." Marie narrowed her eyes and said, "Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?" "Oh, sorry. I'm from Howlingtale." "Oh." No wonder he looked and sounded so beastly with his sharp teeth and slight growl. Let's not forget that he was taller than Classic. Marie smiled, but she was, in fact, annoyed at this Sans for some reason. I'm gonna guess he's one of thoseSanses. Next thing she knew, she was lifted into the air by Undyne and she yelled, "STOP FREAKING OUT, DAMMIT! YOU'RE MAKING US WORRY! ESPECIALLY PAPYRUS!" What she said was true, Papyrus was pacing around nervously and talking with Sans. Marie had never seen Papyrus look so worried. "BUT IS SHE OKAY?" He kept asking. She felt bad now, at making everyone worry so much. Marie got down, and hugged Papyrus. "I'm okay. I didn't mean to scare you." She reassured him. After everyone calmed down, Okami invited Marie into her tent to help make them go away. For Okami, the ears and tail were permanent. But for Marie, she could switch from human to beast at any moment. "Okay, try relaxing." She suggested first, and Marie's eyes closed, and she sat down and cleared her mind. Her new tail kept flicking to and fro, and her ears were twitching. She took a deep breath, and let it out. Nope, still there. Okami and Marie made their way outside to hopefully find another way. Marie tried getting her energy out. Didn't work. Okami splashed her with water. Nope. They tried just about everything. No, nada, bubcus. After finally giving up, Okami suggested that, if she went to sleep, the new appendages would dissapear the next part orning because of her relaxed state. After a bit, she managed to fall asleep without any dreams. After she woke up, the tail and ears were gone. Marie sighed in relief and got up to break camp. After everyone got their stuff together, Justin brought something up. "So, Marie..." "Yeah?" "I woke up in the middle of the night, and I saw shimmering figures and silhouettes." Marie would have fallen over, were it not for Sans unnoticeably helping her. "Uh..." "Well, I don't blame you for not hearing the noise they were making. You can be a pretty heavy sleeper." Marie just nodded as Justin moved on to the upper of the group, yelling a "Hiya!" to make his horse go faster. Marie sighed in relief as Okami came up on her horse and winked. Marie winked back, and went on with the others.
