Winter is now in full swing, snow as far as the eye can. The trees are bare of leaves, not blooming again till spring. There is not that much activity, only a dinosaur here or there as most have gone south.
However, not all have went south. New faces are appearing however. Dinosaurs known only up North near and in the Crystal Empire are starting to appear. But, this is a big and special time for dinosaurs.
It is the mating season. Most think that mating season happens in the spring, but it actually happens in the winter.
When dinosaurs mate, the eggs develop in the mother through the winter before they're laid in the spring. And, one in particular is being eyed for mating purposes.
Velcie runs through the snow. Her feathers may keep her cool in the desert, but they are also used for warmth as well. Nights in the desert grew extremely cold, so her feathers were used for both purposes.
She's barely affected by the cold of the snow. She's never seen snow before, but in a way, she's already getting used to it, as it's basically cold sand. Right now, she's on the hunt.
She's been getting tired of Dinosaur Chow, but few creatures are out here to hunt. Luckily, with all the brush gone, it's easier to find food, but it doesn't provide cover.
The Everfree Forest looks like a barren landscape with miles of trees and snow. She searches every tree, looking for something. Suddenly, she sees something familiar...a deer.
She crouches into the snow, trying to blend in with the environment. The deer was trying to make out a living by searching for lichens among the snow. It's too busy finding food to know its life is about to end.
Suddenly, like a cougar, Velcie jumps from the snow, screeching before landing on the deer, knocking it to the ground. Velcie holds it down by its neck with her jaws before sinking her switchblade of a claw into its neck.
Within seconds, the deer's struggles weaken before it goes limp. Velcie lets go before feasting on her prize. But, unknowingly, she's being watched from behind a tree. She continues eating before she perks up.
She looks just in time as she sees jaws coming at her. She quickly jumps out of the way as everything went in slow motion. She twirled around after landing to face her attacker.
It was an unfamiliar dinosaur, but she could tell it was a tyrannosaurid. It was in fact a Gorgosaurus. The Gorgosaurus towered over Velcie, and she knew not to take on something bigger than her.
She probably could if her pack was here, but they decided to stay back at the cottage. There was no use in defending her kill. She just screeched at the Gorgosaurus before she headed back.
The Gorgosaurus roared at her before picking up the deer in his jaws and leaving. Velcie at least got her stomach nearly filled.
She soon arrived back home. Her pack was sitting under the tree when they noticed her.
"How'd your hunt go?" Talon asked.
"Darn tyrannosaur took my dear" she snarled before sitting down. She curled up before closing her eyes and resting. Unknowingly to her, Vellon was watching her. Talon soon noticed.
"What you looking at, Vellon?" Talon asked.
"Her" Vellon replied, mentioning Velcie. Talon soon smiled, knowing what he was implying, "You starting to like her?"
Vellon immediately snapped out of it, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Talon chuckled, "It's okay. You'd be perfect for her."
"You really think so?" Vellon asked.
"Of course" Talon replied, "I want to have grandkids."
"You know, out of all the Velociraptors I've seen, she's probably the strongest and most beautiful I've seen" Vellon said before blushing.
"Well, I respect that" Talon replied.
"The problem is" Vellon said, "I don't know how to impress her"
"You'll figure it out" Talon said, "I was nervous when I was trying to impress Claw, but in the end, it all worked out." Vellon felt a little more reassurance.
He was just about to walk over to her when a screeching roar interrupted him. Vellon turned to see another Velociraptor. This one was just as big as him and also a male.
"Can we help you?" Talon asked, getting up, holding back his urge to attack.
"This is not any of your business, old man" the newcomer snarled. Talon was just about to pounce, but Vellon held out his claw, blocking him.
"What is it you want?" Vellon asked. The newcomer pointed at Velcie, who had just woken up from the commotion.
"Her" he growled. Velcie had a look of confusion on her face, but Vellon stepped in front of her.
"She is not yours for the taking" Vellon said, glaring at the newcomer.
"Oh really? Who says so?" the newcomer said.
"I do" Talon said, "That's my daughter, bucko, so unless you want a fight for her, I suggest you move along."
"If I have to, I will" the newcomer growled.
"You do not want this fight" Talon said.
"Oh, I'm pretty sure I do" the newcomer said before he slashed Talon in the face.
"DAD!" Velcie shouted. Suddenly, Talon's eyes shot open, a new slash across his snout, before he lunged at the newcomer, grabbing his neck in his jaws, knocking him to the ground. Talon pinned him to the ground.
"Now, you will pay the consequences" Talon snarled.
"Oh, I highly doubt that" the newcomer said before he kicked Talon in the gut. Talon coughed as the air got knocked out of him before the newcomer got out of his grasp.
Then, the newcomer ran at Talon before jumping and doing a flying kick with both feet into Talon's side before Talon is launched back. He soon hits against the tree before falling to the ground.
"DAD!" Vivienne said. Velox stared at the newcomer before getting the courage. He screeched before charging at the newcomer.
"Nobody hurts my dad!" Velox yelled, but he was stopped as the newcomer spun around, smacking his tail into Velox's face. Velox spins around before making a goofy face and falling to the ground.
The newcomer shook off before turning to Vellon. Vellon was surprised by the newcomer's amazing agility.
"Who are you?" Vellon asked.
"You can just call me Victor" the newcomer replied, "What about you?"
"Vellon" Vellon said, "That's some good agility you got."
"Thank you, now enough small talk" Victor snarled.
"So, you came here to take Velcie?" Vellon questioned.
"Yes, as it is the mating season" Victor said, glaring at Velcie. Velcie felt a little exposed as she wrapped her tail around herself and she was blushing. Vivienne came to her side, comforting her.
"I'd never have kids with someone like you, not after what you did to my father and brother" Velcie said.
"That's life, babe" Victor said, starting to flirt. Vellon was getting tired of this. He stood in front of Velcie.
"Alright, that's enough!" Vellon snarled.
"Oh right, I got to deal with the boyfriend first" Victor said.
"You can say that again. Your not getting to her as long as I am still standing" Vellon said.
"Oh, I guarantee that once I'm done with you, you won't be standing anymore" Victor said.
With that said, Victor charged forward, leaping up, his toe claws ready, but Vellon dodged. When Victor landed, the two circled each other, snarling and screeching at each other.
Then, Victor charged again, but Vellon dodged, only to have Victor retaliate by slashing his side. Vellon screeched in pain before Victor pounced on him.
Victor moved his feet to where his switchblade of a claw was over Vellon's neck.
"See, what I tell you?" Victor said.
"You know, you really need to stop talking" Vellon said before he twists his body and thrusts his toe claw into Victor's gut. Victor roars in pain as it impales him.
He let's go of Vellon before backing up and staring at the puncture wound. Vellon backed up towards Velcie. Victor looked back at Vellon with eyes of rage.
"You're going to regret doing that" Victor snarled before he charged at Vellon with jaws open. Vellon dodged, but Victor turned on a dime, tackling Vellon to the ground. Victor has his jaws on his Vellon's neck.
Vellon tries to retaliate, but Victor has him pinned good. He then moves to where Vellon can't attack before dragging Vellon across the snow. Soon, he throws him and Vellon lands only a few feet away.
Vellon gets back up, but he's slowly giving out. Victor rushes at Vellon, claws and teeth ready. Vellon this time dodges before he smacks his tail as hard as he can against Victor.
Victor stutters off before he turns back to Vellon. Victor tasted a drop of blood from his mouth.
"Okay, now you're dead!" Victor yelled before he charged again, but this time, Vellon charged as well before he grabbed Victor by the neck in his jaws and wrestled him to the ground.
Vellon hovers his killing claw above Victor's neck. Vellon snarled at Victor, but Victor just smiled before he flung his killing claw forward, slashing Vellon's thigh. Vellon screeched in pain, unpinning Victor.
Victor quickly got up before knocking Vellon to the ground. Vellon collapsed to the snow, as he was now out of energy. Victor put his killing claw over Vellon's neck.
"Any last words before I end your pathetic life?" Victor questioned, but Vellon didn't give a response. Victor raised his claw up, ready to deliver the final blow.
But then, suddenly, Velox screeched before pouncing on Victor's back. Victor screeched out as he was now focused on Velox. Velox stayed behind Victor, clawing at his back.
But then, Victor kicked Velox, knocking him back before he falls onto his back next to Velcie and Vivienne, who have moved over to Talon, who was still out. Victor marched over to the 4, his eyes now filled with bloodlust.
"Oh, isn't this just great. You get to watch one of your own pack die before your eyes"
"Give it up! I'm not going to mate with you...you...you monster!" Velcie snarled.
"Well then, I'm just going to have to kill all of you then" Victor said, giving them a malevolent smile.
Suddenly, Vivienne lunged forward, but she was knocked aside and back against the tree as Victor slashed her in the face. She looked back as a new slash was under her eye. Victor continued to move forward.
"STOP!" Velcie suddenly said. She looked at her family. If she continued to resist, they would get killed. So, she admitted.
"I'll be your mate" Velcie said, giving up.
"Now, that's a good girl" Victor said. Velcie walked up to him. Victor smiled at down at her. But then, she lunged up, grabbing him by the neck in her jaws.
This caught him completely by surprise before she threw him away. He rolled across the snow before he stopped, laying still. She was surprised as she thought she killed him.
Suddenly, there was movement as he got to his feet. He looked back to her, his expression from before had intensified. He glared at her.
"You clever girl, but you're going to regret what you just did" Victor said.
"You shouldn't have messed with my pack" Velcie snarled.
Suddenly, Victor charged at her, screeching. Velcie charged as well before the two collided. They twirled around before Victor was knocked to the ground.
He quickly got back up before ramming into Velcie, but she retaliated by slashing him in the face. He screeched out in anger before he clawed her in the arm and did a side ways kick, launching her back.
She collapsed to the snow, skidding across it. She looked back up as Victor marches towards her.
"Any last words?" he snarled, "I've given you many chances to accept my proposal, but it's clear I have to kill you"
"Burn in Tartarus!" Velcie snarled. Victor screeched before he lunged at her. She closed her eyes as her life flashed before her eyes, but to think it would end here over if she would be a mother or not.
Suddenly, Vellon came out of nowhere, screeching before thrusting his killing claw forward, it ending up impaling Victor square in the chest. Victor stopped dead in his tracks.
He looked down at where it impaled him before he looked back at Vellon, who was glaring at him.
"What'd I tell you" Vellon said before he quickly slashed down. Blood spurted and pored from Victor's chest and mouth before he collapsed to the ground, dead. His blood stained the snow around him.
Vellon glared at his fallen rival before letting out a screeching roar in victory. Then, he turned to Velcie, who was surprised by what happened.
"Are you okay?" Vellon asked, helping her up. Velcie suddenly nuzzled against him.
"Thank you" she said. Vellon couldn't believe it. He smiled before he embraced it and nuzzled against her. The two then looked at Victor's dead body.
"Hey guys!" Vivienne shouted. They saw that Talon was waking up. Quickly, they walked over as Talon was fully awake. He got up, which Vellon helped him up.
"Take it easy, big guy" Vellon said.
"What happened? Did you get that guy?" Talon asked. Then, he saw the dead carcass of Victor only a few meters away.
"Didn't want to back down, huh?" Talon questioned.
"After what he did with Velcie, he didn't deserve to live" Vellon said.
"What'd he do" Talon said, darkly.
"I fought him off, but of course, he got the better of me" Velcie said. Talon couldn't help but smile.
"Now, that's my girl" Talon smiled before the two nuzzled. When the two break away, Talon looked at everyone before he noticed everyone as injured a bit.
"Well, it looks like he got after all of us" Talon said, "So, who killed him?" Vellon shortly after raised his claw. Talon couldn't help but chuckle.
"Well now...good job, Vellon" Talon said.
"Thank you, sir, but I did it to protect Velcie" Vellon said, "If I didn't step in, who knows what could've happened if I didn't."
"I understand that, and I thank you for saving my daughter's life" Talon said. The two smiled at each other before Vellon turned to Velcie.
Velcie smiled at him and he smiled back before the two nuzzled each other.
Meanwhile, down South, Rampage sleeps in her same spot. It's been a few weeks since she arrived here, and everything is perfect.
She was accepted by the pack of resident Giganotosaurus, but she mostly stays away as she doesn't want any conflict. Suddenly, she hears her stomach growl.
Her eyes shoot open before she looks at her stomach and groans. She then gets up and walks out. She looks at the other pack members. A pair of young males practice fighting, while others rest or patrol around.
Suddenly, the pack leader, which is a large female, let's out a roar, which means it is feeding time. The other Giganotosaurus stop what they're doing and head out into the open. The target, an old female Argentinosaurus.
She is very old, ill, and on the verge of collapse. She stands in the middle of the crowd, but that's not going to save her. The Giganotosaurs move among the sauropods.
They are constantly roared and bellowed at, but they snap their jaws and roar at the other sauropods. They surround the female. This will take a few hours, but it will be worth it.
However, the Giganotosaurus pack is joined by more Carcharodontosaurs. The Mapusaurus and Carcharodontosaurus have also joined the Giganotosaurus.
They're going to put their differences aside, just until the female is brought down. But, another player had entered as well, which they came here a few days ago. These are also relatives of the other predators here.
They go by the name of Tyrannotitan. Tyrannotitan lived before Mapusaurus and Giganotosaurus, but still lived in Argentina. Tyrannotitan lived 118 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous in Argentina.
Tyrannotitan measures 37-43 feet in length and about 13 feet in height.
Not much is known about this carnosaur, other than that they probably named it because its arm position vaguely resembled that of a tyrannosaur, but other than that, it has all characteristics of Carcharodontosaurids, like huge size, serrated, blade-like teeth, three digit claws, a long skull, weak bite force, and all other traits.
But, a familiar face has appeared as well...Acrocanthosaurus. It seems all Carcharodontosaurids have come here, which makes sense. All the predators circle the old female. They roar at her and she bellows back.
Sadly, there's nothing the other sauropods can do, but watch. The first to attack was a Giganotosaurus. He charged forward his jaws open before he sank his teeth into the female's right front leg.
She bellows out in pain before she lifts up on her back legs. The Giganotosaurus lets go before she comes crashing back down, letting out a giant thud.
A Mapusaurus suddenly comes forward, sinking its teeth into her right back leg. She shakes the Mapusaurus off, stomping down. Then, a Tyrannotitan bites her in the side.
She roars out as the Tyrannotitan backs away, his blood stained teeth showing as he roars. Where he bit, a gash is left. The lead Giganotosaurus soon moves in. She sinks her teeth near where the Tyrannotitan bit.
She then rips off a chunk of flesh. The female bellows out as the leader walks away, the chunk dangling from her mouth. She sets the chunk of flesh down and starts eating it.
Some others home in on her, but she let's out a thunderous roar, scaring them off and letting them know not to even think about it. The carnage continues out throughout the day and on into the night.
Morning, and all is calm now, but the female Argentinosaurus lies dead where she once stood. A large portion of her has already been eaten. The Giganotosaurus pack are just waking up.
They all had eaten their fill but now, it's breakfast. Already, scavengers are already at the carcass. A pair of Aucasaurus feast on the carcass.
Aucasaurus are relatives of Carnotaurus and Majungasaurus, but they aren't as big as the two. They are just a bit taller than a human, at 7 feet at the hip and 20 feet in length.
These abelisaurids lived in Argentina 85-80 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous. Aucasaurus share the same characteristics as that of other abelisaurs: small, useless hands, a powerful build and a strong jaw.
But, unlike Carnotaurus or Majungasaurus, they didn't have horns, just a pair of low ridges above the eyes. Aucasaurus are hunters, but will scavenge when possible. A few other dinosaurs are feasting on the carcass.
A juvenile Tyrannosaurus that appeared just yesterday feasts as well. Compsognathus are all over as well. However, this small little dinner party is about to get ruined. A roar surprised all of them.
They looked as a Giganotosaurus approached the carcass. They all immediately scattered. However, this isn't just any Giganotosaurus. It is Rampage. She's the first to arrive.
Being at the bottom of the pecking order, since she's the newest member, she barely got anything to eat, so she takes advantage by waking up early to be the first to feast. But, she isn't going to be the only one here.
As she feasts, she doesn't notice another Giganotosaurus coming up. This one, however, is a male. He's just a hair bit bigger than her, but it's very hard to notice.
He's had his eye on her ever since she came here, and now he's decided it's his chance to make an impression.
"Excuse me" he introduced. She shot her head back, growling. He reassured her he wasn't here for trouble.
"May I join you, miss?" he questioned. She looked at him up and down.
"Sure" she said before she moved over and he feasted with her.
"So, what's your name?" he asked.
"You can just call me Rampage" she said with a mouthful of meat.
"That's a nice name. You can call me Carnage" he said. Rampage nodded before smiling a bit. Soon, she was filled.
"Well, that was nice" Carnage said. She agreed with him. She scratched her claws in the dirt, as she didn't know what to say next.
Suddenly, they were interrupted by a roar as the lead female approached, followed by the rest of the pack. They surrounded the carcass and began to feast. Rampage and Carnage looked back at each other.
"May I join you back?" Carnage asked.
"I would like that" Rampage said with a smile, soon the two head back.
A FEW DAYS LATER
Rampage sleeps under her tree as usual, but Carnage sleeps next to her. Soon, the two wake up. Since they've met, they just mostly walk around, talking. However, today will be different.
The two stand on the edge of the pack's territory. They are in the middle of nuzzling when a roar catches their attentions. A large male stomps towards the two of them.
He stops only a few meters away before roaring. Carnage faces him, roaring as well. The bigger male has been eyeing Rampage as well, and now he's intervening. So, that means that Carnage must fight for his "mate".
Fights like these can be brutal. The two males circle each other. Rampage would intervene, but she's going to stay out of this one. Suddenly, the male charges. Carnage charges as well.
The two end up ramming their heads together, and it becomes a shoving match. Soon, they break away. Carnage scratches his toes into the ground. Then, the male charges again. This time, they ram shoulders.
The male scratches Carnage in the chest, but he doesn't feel it because of the adrenaline. Then, Carnage bites the male's neck, digging his teeth into the male's flesh.
Then, he throws the males head away, with the force twirling the male around. The male faces back to Carnage, roaring before charging again, ramming his head into Carnage's chest.
Carnage reaches down and slashes the male's face with his claws. The male backs out, roaring in pain before Carnage brings his jaws down on the male's face.
Soon, the male frees himself before backing down and Carnage roars at him. The male doesn't want to risk a more serious injury, so he backs down and walks off. Carnage then let's out a thunderous roar in victory.
Carnage turns back to his prize...Rampage. He walks up to her and smiles. She smiles back before the two nuzzle.
Next Time: Things turn to a more less violent manner as Hearth's Warming arrives and it will be Dino-rific.
Author's Note: And there you go as love is in the air for Rampage and Velcie. What will happen next? We'll have to find out.
