"No," Katherine said with a scoffing chuckle, expressing just how ridiculous he was.
"Kateri..." He said, trying to show he was serious.
"No, Klaus," the doppelganger stressed out.
"Just, here me out..."
"I. Am. Not. Going. To the stupid ball, your evil mother is organizing," Katherine said with conviction.
Apparently, The Bennett witches gave witchy visions until Bonnie was obsessed with finding her mother and then took them both for a ride to open Esther from her coffin.
It's been a week now, and Caroline and Jeremy have been helping Bonnie after the physical violation she experienced and both teenagers have been updating Katherine about it every day. Of course, Katherine was pissed when she learned they didn't tell her until the very end, even though they both call the doppelganger every single day for some shitty reason.
And Esther, after giving a speech about family, forgiveness, and shit...is planning to throw a back from the dead party, which she invited Katherine, the last standing doppelganger - well at least for the world she is last - to come.
"I am not asking you. This is me calling in the favor, you owe me," Klaus said.
"Hey! Remember the time I saved you from your psychotic stepfather?"
"I lent you my witch and warlock for that favor. This favor is regarding the blood you took with you," Klaus said, and Katherine was sure the hybrid was rolling his eyes.
"So you are saying, the price for saving your life is lending your two witches for a day," Katherine commented, striving to say just how ridiculously he makes a deal.
At that, she heard a sigh. "Look. I just want to know what my mother is up to. And she asked for you in particular. So, can't you just come for a couple of hours. I will let you take Maddox and Greta again... for a week if you want."
"Now you are just sounding desperate," Katherine said, exhaling a sigh. She remained silent for a bit before continuing. "Klaus, I don't want to come anywhere near your deranged mother, not after all the shit Esther did and is probably trying to do. What if she hexes me to die some horrible death? I don't have to explicitly tell you just how paranoid I am. How do you just expect me to walk into your house knowing how and what she is?"
There was a shuffle on the other side, and then Elijah spoke. "Katerina. Ever since my mother came back, my whole family is on their toes. We know very well what my mother is capable of. We also know what all she had a hand in. We are just acting as if we are one big happy family but, we all know it is anything but that. So, if she expects us to believe her, then there is no way my mother even knows how we foiled her plans."
"Then, why does she want me?" Katherine asked, frustrated, "If it's not for torturing me."
"She wants to meet you and apologize for what my family put you through," Klaus spoke this time in a cynical tone.
"Apologise," Katherine scoffed, "Ask her to buy the Bahamas Islands in my name if she wants to apologize. Not invite me to a stupid ball, which is a seven-hour drive away."
Elijah let out a tired sigh at that. "Look, we know what we are asking you to do, Katerina..." he began, but Katherine cut him off.
"Fine. I will be there," Katherine said.
"Excuse me!"
"What?"
"I said I will come and laugh in your faces and say, 'I told you so' when your mother uses me for another spell that will potentially kill you all." Katherine said, "Also, I want your witches for a few days. So..."
"Right..." Klaus dragged, "I must say the trust you have on my mother is astounding."
"Whatever. When is this thing, anyway?" Katherine said, running her fingers through her hair.
"Two days from now."
"Do you really have to go?" Hayley asked, leaning over Katherine's bedroom door as she watched the doppelganger packing her suitcase.
"Yup!" She said with a pop as she carefully packed the dress she brought for the ball.
"I could always go with you," The Labonair wolf said, with folded hands.
"Nah! The full moon's in 3 days. And someone must be here to look out and go shopping by the time the Pack turns back into humans. Eve can't look out at everything no matter what she says," When she heard a distressed sigh, Katherine turned around. "I won't be gone for that long."
"Why are you even going?" Hayley asked, frustrated, and confused.
"Why do you think? I still believe Klaus's life is linked to mine. It doesn't matter even if I stay away from the Psycho witch. Killing Klaus would kill me, no matter where I am. I would rather be close to Esther and prevent her from committing mass homicide."
"Just...just be careful, alright?" Hayley requested with a sigh.
"Don't worry. I will keep an eye on her," Stefan said as he came behind them with his luggage.
"I don't need a baby sitter," Katherine said, rolling her eyes.
"Have you seen you? You are more reckless than a 5-year-old on a sugar rush," Stefan said deadpanned.
"I am not," Katherine scoffed.
"Of course, you are not," Hayley said, and Katherine smiled at the wolf for coming to her defense, "You are 18 years old." that resulted in a flying comb thrown straight in her face, which Hayley avoided much to the doppelganger's displeasure.
"Anyway," Katherine began as she turned back to zip her luggage, "Let's hope when I come back...if I am still alive and come back... I will bring the Bennett blood, the spell, and Maddox and Greta with me," She kept the suitcase down with a thud, "We will release Kai and make a deal."
"There is no 'If'... You either come back before a week, or I will drag you here by myself, even if you go to hell," Hayley said, following both Katherine and Stefan down the stairs.
After both the doppelgangers said their goodbyes to the wolves, they set out on their journey to Mystic Falls.
I love the light in your eyes and the dark in your heart
You love our permanent chase and the bite of our bark
we know we're classic together like Egyptian gold
We love us
An hour on the road, Katherine began to sing the Valentine song of 5 seconds of summer, tapping her fingers on the wheel every few times, and Stefan, who has never heard it began tapping his shoes at the rhythm of the new song after a few minutes of listening to it.
It doesn't matter, be combative or be sweet cherry pie
It doesn't matter just as long as I get all you tonight
I can take you out, oh-oh
we can kill some time, stay home
Throws balloons, teddy bears and the chocolate eclairs await
Got nothing but love for you, fall more in love every day
Valentine, valentine
So deep, your DNA's being messed with my touch
Can't beat us
So real, fueling the fire until we combust
Can't touch us
"What was that song?" Stefan asked as the song came to an end
"Valentine," Katherine said, driving ahead, and suddenly her eyes went wide at the realization. The song was not released yet. "Shit!" Her brain supplied.
"I have never heard it," Stefan said.
"You and the entire population on this planet!" Katherine wanted to say. "It's not released yet," Katherine said. "I compelled a band!" she blurted out.
Stefan just looked at her at that. Like really looked with his judgy eyes. "Don't judge me!" Katherine said, not looking at him, and Stefan just rolled his eyes as if he should've expected it by now when it comes to Katherine.
"Have you talked to Melantha?" Stefan inquired when they were 5 hours into the ride.
"Nope," Katherine said, passing the blood bag to Stefan after taking a few sips.
"Why?" Stefan said, taking a couple of sips and giving it back to Katherine.
"You know, you won't go off the rails after all the blood bag training you have been doing from months now," Katherine said, holding out the blood bag, "You sure don't want more?"
"I would rather not push my luck," Stefan said, scrunching his nose, "But I can see your blatant attempt to divert the topic."
"I know what Mel is gonna say," Katherine said, "And I would rather not hear it."
"She will be more pissed off if she knows latter rather than now," Stefan said. Katherine sighed, knowing he was right, and just dialed the number.
"Katherine," Melantha greeted warmly as soon as she took the call.
"Hey, Mel. How are you?" Katherine asked.
"Good. Just made a new batch of choco chip cookies," The Greek Witch said.
"Who pissed you off," Katherine said, knowing very well chocolate cookies are for bad days and peanut butter for good days.
"A woman came to my shop with her dog. While she was talking to someone in a video call, her dog started shitting on my shop floor. I was like, "Miss. Your dog..." and she just looked at me and then back to her phone and said, "People are so rude nowadays." I mean, just who does that bitch think she is..." And Melantha went on complaining about her day while Katherine listened.
"What's going on with you anyway?" The white-haired, which asked from the other end.
"Alright...first promise me that you won't scold me," Katherine began.
"Katherine," Melantha said, in a light warning.
The doppelganger sighed, knowing she can't escape. "So, remember when I told you the Original witch is back from the dead."
"Yes."
"Well, she wants to throw a ball, and she wants me to attend it, and so I am on my way to Mystic Falls now," said the brunette as she put the phone a little away from her ear, knowing very well the old witch got some lungs on her.
"How stupid and suicidal are you?" Melantha cried out. "You curse that family every time you talk about them, and yet, you always are the first one to volunteer in fighting their battles."
"I know. I know that very well. But I can't live carelessly knowing Klaus's life is linked to mine," Katherine said, loudly. She then calmed down and continued, "Look, I won't involve with the Mikaelson's after this. Alright? As soon as mummy dearest dies, I leave them."
"I just hope you know what you are doing," Melantha said softly.
"I hope so too," Katherine said, equally gentle.
"I will call you tomorrow then," The witch said, deciding to hang up.
"Yeah," but she immediately remembered something and spoke fast. "Mel, Mel, Mel," she said before she could hang up.
"Yes?"
"Can you do me a tiny favor?"
"What is it?"
"I will send you a number of a teenage Bennett witch. She is facing a midlife crisis...if you will. I mean, her ancestors are kinda screwing her over every time. They block her magic, give her migraine and warning, hitch her body for a ride. You get what I mean?"
"Sure..." Melantha said dryly, "But I don't know how I can help her, darling. I walked away willingly, broke all the ties with my Coven, willingly. Is your friend willing to do that?"
"That's why I am asking for your help. You showed your middle finger to your whole Coven when they are all still kicking. Make Bonnie understand that. Tell her, she is more than just magic, and tell her to not give a shit about her dead ancestors. Tell her it is okay to walk away from all the shit," Katherine said. "And for Olympus's sake, make her understand she doesn't need to sacrifice her life for everyone and not to be judgmental just because of a mistake they made in the past."
Stefan looked at his ex-girlfriend as if she has grown a second head. But the vampire paid him no mind and listened to Melnaths's reply. "Fine. I will try my best. I will teach her if she is willing to learn. You can't clap with one hand now, can you? Send me her number and pay for the phone bills." with that, Melnatha cut the call.
"What?" Katherine said in a defensive tone when she saw Stefan still looking at her, "Caroline and Jeremy are spamming my phone for every few hours about Bonnie's depression. I really don't have time to deal with judgemental town witches... not when I am in the middle of a crisis."
"I didn't say anything," Stefan said, raising his arms up.
"You did," Katherine said, and mumbled softly, "You totally did."
"Why do you insist on driving long hours and bitch about it later?" Stefan asked as he stepped down from the car and shut the door.
"I like to be in control of the wheel," Katherine said, rolling her eyes as she shut the door of her side and went towards the back.
"Goody! You two are here," Damon said, coming out of the boarding house at the sound of car parking in his driveway.
"Hey, Damon. Help me with the bags will you," Katherine said, opening the boot of the car.
"Hello to you too, Kat. How are you? I am doing quite well. Thanks for asking," Damon said in a sarcastic tone as she came into her view.
"Shut up," Katherine said with a scoffing chuckle. "Manners, and you should not be in one sentence." She handed him a suitcase and took hold of her handbag.
"Where's Rose, by the way?" The doppelganger asked as she saw her ex-boyfriends wheeling the luggage into the house.
"She went to England two days ago. To her home town, St. Austell. She was feeling quite nostalgic about the sun, fields, and horses," Damon said, "I would've gone too, but I can't leave these dysfunctional kids in the town and let them raise another evil from the dead."
"Come on, Bonnie was not really the one that did it," Stefan reprimanded his brother, "It's not her fault in any way. She has no control over what she is doing."
"Doesn't mean she has nothing to be guilty about," Damon said, shrugging his shoulders. He then turned towards Katherine. "And you. You really want to go to the ball which Esther explicitly invited you for. Don't you find it a little sketchy."
"Oh, I know it is a little more than sketchy," Katherine said with certainty.
"Then why are you going?" Damon all but shouted.
"I just want to know how she can use me to kill her children, and then I want to kill her," Katherine said.
Damon looked at his brother with disbelief. "Is she for real?" The question was practically printed on his face. And Stefan just nodded his head, tight-lipped.
"Did you even think about the possibility that she is planning to kill you?"
"Absolutely!" Katherine exclaimed, "And I am trying to be optimistic and look past that particular plausibility."
Both brothers looked at each other again, lifting their eyebrows and coming to a conclusion.
"What are you planning?" Katherine asked, looking at them with narrowed eyes.
"Who did you say your plus one was again?"
"Definitely not you both," Katherine said.
So, there's another chapter. Esther's back and Katherine is in Mystic Falls for the ball, and to team up with the Mikaelsons once again. Hope you liked it.
