Remus walked out of the room some time later. His friends had not found him. He walked around the next corner and saw James, Sirius and Peter. "guys!" he called out. Peter gasped, and they all came running.
"Remus! Where were you?" Peter asked. Remus smiled. He wondered if he should tell them. He could keep it a secret. He could keep it as a safe space, somewhere to run too in case they found out he was a werewolf.
It is always wise to have back up plans to every idea, everything you do, and everyone should have one. It does not do to be too cautious. Then you may as well spend your entire life bored. And yet, particularly for a werewolf, it is vital to have an escape plan.
Few werewolves live to see old age. The most common reason is suicide, followed by lack of access to medical care, resulting in sickness, complications in pregnancy, severe wounds, or infections. The third most common death is murder.
The hatred many humans have for werewolves, disguised as fear, acted on as prejudice, and justified on superiority, leads to many hate crimes. Killing werewolves in the hours after the full moon is most common, but another would be to lead a werewolf into a false sense of security.
That is why all werewolves should have a backup plan. No werewolf should rely on a human, as humans can't be trusted.
Internally, Remus could have sighed. But, he thought, he already had an escape plan. He could show his friends the room without it mattering.
"come on. Follow me. I found something pretty special." he said. Sirius flicked his long, dark hair out of his eyes. "really what is it" he asked. Remus smiled. "wait and see." he said. He walked up the corridor. "i need the room to show me the place where everything hides" he thought. He thought that should work. After all, he had hidden there. He did it two more times, and it opened.
They walked inside it. "bloody hell!" James said. Remus stepped inside. The room had changed. Instead of the cosy room he had hidden in, a large room, cavernous in size, filled with random stuff sat.
"i know this room!" Peter suddenly said. "its called the room of requirement. My dad told me about it. Its really hard to find."
"this room is filled with things people left here." Sirius said, picking up a tiara with a blue eagle on it. James walked over to a large cabinet. He poked at it. "looks like a vanishing cabinet. My dad's confiscated loads of these. I wonder where its pair is."
Remus looked around the new room. It was certainly somewhere impressive. Remus wondered if he would still be able to hide in here if his friends found out the truth.
