I don't own any characters in the Percy Jackson universe which is rightfully owned by Rick Riodan. However, the Greek gods and/or other mythological figures are used in my imagination and well you can't claim copyright on history.
Chapter 37
There was an emergency meeting to plan for the war that we felt sure was coming up in the next few days.
"Percy? You up?"
"Gimme 10 more minutes."
Annabeth barges in the room and pulls the covers off and blushes. I just want to put out there I got lazy and slept in my birthday suit.
"Hurry up and get ready, everyone is waiting for you."
"No good morning kiss or anything?" I asked as I let out a yawn.
"Of course not. Do you not know what morning breath is? Go brush your teeth and wash up and then maybe one kiss."
I laughed and took my sweet ass time. She was a morning person and I was blessed to not be a morning person. I finished and left the bathroom to see Annabeth sitting around and waiting for me. I went over and gave her a kiss, pushing her down onto her back. It gets a little heated and then I suddenly got up.
"What? Why're you getting up?" She asks with a higher pitch voice than normal.
"Wasn't it you that said we had to hurry? Well, all I'm doing is hurrying up. If you have a complaint, send one to Momus." (he's the Greek god of complaints or criticism)
"You are insufferable."
"Insufferably yours."
"Shut up, get ready."
She stormed out and I finished up and went outside to join her. We walked towards the Big House in silence. I knew she was upset but I found it cute when she was. We entered into the room to find Chiron and the other counselors already waiting for me.
"What took you so long?" Katie asks.
"They were probably fooling around." Charles shouts and laughter erupts.
"Alright, settle down. Percy and Annabeth, can you go up to the attic and bring down the prophecy?"
We nod and made our way up. We approached the hippie mummy oracle.
"Oracle, tell me the great prophecy."
"No stupid, you don't ask."
She went over and took a leather sack attached to her necklace. She hands it to me while rolling her eyes.
"Wait a minute. So you're telling me the so-called great prophecy that I've been afraid of my whole life, was in a sack around her neck? Besides, how does not knowing that make me stupid?" I asked.
She just huffs and starts to leave. I follow behind and made my way back to the war room.
"You're back. When you take your seat, I would like you to determine if you would like to read the prophecy to the rest of us or keep it to yourself."
I nod and took my seat. I didn't think I'd have anything to lose so I pulled it and read the following:
"A Half-Blood of the eldest gods,
Shall reach sixteen against all odds,
And see the world to endless sleep,
The hero's soul, the cursed blade shall reap,
A single choice to end his days,
Olympus to preserve or raze."
The room fills with silence, the friends and fellow campers that were laughing and joking just moments ago, were serious and some seemed to look at me with pity.
"Well, the last line seems good. The choices are to preserve or raze." Connor Stoll tried to reassure.
"No, raze as in destroying not raise. R-A-Z-E." Silena tells him.
"Oh, okay never mind then." He says as he was shot down.
"Alright, regardless, the same thing as always. Break it down from the easy lines." I put out.
The others nod in agreement and I review the lines to pick them out. Honestly, it was hard because of the fact that they all hard and confusing.
"A half-blood born of the big three reaching sixteen against all odds. I guess since so many people, gods, and monsters were out for my blood, I did reach sixteen against all odds. The following line makes no sense. Endless sleep as in death? The whole world dying seems extreme. Cursed blade, maybe Kronos's scythe?"
In my mind, the last part of what I said was the exact opposite. Riptide was a cursed blade to many heroes and to Zoë. Would my own blade get me killed?
"The second to last line… it seems I'm going to die. If it means I can save Olympus, I'd gladly die a thousand times."
The room fills with silence and Annabeth looks at me with sadness in her eyes. We suddenly hear shouting outside and the entire council gets up to see the commotion. Can't blame us, we had ADHD and even with the lingering meaning of death, a fight was going to capture our attention.
"Alright, well it seems the meeting is over." Chiron sighs.
And just like that, the attention changes again. The campers rush out leaving Annabeth behind. Chiron just glances around and sighs deeply then leaves.
"Babe, you can't take prophecies so literally." She tries to comfort me.
"When did you ever 'babe' me. Besides, what else would a line like he cursed blade shall reap mean? Perhaps a double entendre about me reaping fields of wheat?"
She just looks away and I could see tears streaming down her face. I turned her face towards me kissing her while wiping her tears.
"Hey, Perc. Stop messing around with your girl and get your ass down here. Nico's here." Charles calls.
"Alright, you asshole. Leave me alone for one second, damn. You have your own girl and it seems you're obsessed with me."
"Of course, have you ever seen yourself in a mirror?"
I ignored him and walked down.
"Listen, if you're going to announce that you're gay, I have nothing wrong with that. Do it somewhere else."
"Aw, is someone mad?" He laughs and walks away.
Nico was standing around waiting for me.
"Told you I was coming." He said plainly.
"I know, and I want to follow through with your plan. An unstoppable force and an immovable object."
Nico nods and walks towards the forest.
"We have a situation going on first."
"As in?"
"You'll see. In the meantime let's walk Mrs. O'Leary."
I turned and nodded. I call out her name and she bounds out of the shadows.
"WOOF!"
She barks like an artillery gun and licks both of us. She then runs deeper into the forest. We follow until eventually, we hear talking.
"Listen, Juniper, we're doing everything we can to find him."
"No, you're not! I know you hate him but he's important! What are you doing to look for him, tell me!" Juniper yells.
"Look, Grover's missing and we're trying-"
I step out and he freezes.
"Grovers missing and you haven't told me?"
End of chapter 37. Shout to Younglan and You10 for always encouraging me and giving ideas (or spoiling potential plots). Regardless, thanks for reading!
