Chapter 29
Jessy had put a breakfast casserole in the oven when she got up and it was ready to serve just as AJ got out of the shower after his morning run. Jesssy told everyone she had gone on line to look for things that they could do and she thought she'd found something they all might like. They were all eager to find out what she had in mind and all of them were excited with her idea.
There was a food festival going on at the open air mall in Arlington. It was called A Taste of the World and had cuisine from all over. A per person fee could be paid or a family rate and everyone could eat from noon to evening.
Arriving at the festival the kids were told they could go to whatever booth they wanted as long as they at least one of the group was in sight. An hour into the afternoon Allen approached Jessy with a corndog in his hand and a question in his heart.
"Jessy I've really liked the last day and a half with you and Coach AJ but if I was to live with you guys all the time what would happen when Coach AJ gets mad at me?"
"Allen I am sure there will be time when everything is all sunshine and roses but when something goes wrong we would sit down with you and find out what the problem was and then try and find a solution together."
"He wouldn't hit me?"
"He would never hit you! Allen we really like all you kids and would love to make you a part of our family."
"You guys really want all of us to live with you?"
"Only if you want to be a part of our family Allen," she paused to reach out with her hand and caress his cheek, "We would love to be your parents. Do you think that is something you might want?"
"I just think it is so weird!"
"What do you mean weird?"
"I haven't ever had people that wanted me for other than the money they get for being a foster parent."
"Allen what happened to your parents?"
"I was only two when they died. We were in a car accident they said I was in the car with them when it hit some ice and rolled over a bunch of times. I can't even remember their faces. I had a picture of them but I lost it in one of my moves. I would just really like a place to belong. That was why I was happy when Bethany and Breen let me stay with them. If you and Coach AJ really want me I would like to stay."
She saw AJ walking towards them with Danika at his side. "AJ, Danika will you tell Allen that we would like him to be part of our family?"
"I think it would be great to have you as a brother Allen! I'd like Bethany and Breen to be in our family too. Wouldn't it be great to live in a nice house with a big family? I was just with my mom for a long time and then it was just me. Now I have a chance to be part of a big family and it's really exciting to me."
"I also would like for you to be a part of our family too Allen. But the choice is up to you."
"I want to but I don't know how Bethany and Breen feel."
"We can ask them tonight when we get back to the house. Do you know where they are right now?"
"I see them!" Danika called out. She pointed to where she saw them and the four of them walked over to the teens.
"What are you guys eating?" Allen asked.
Both of them help up the gyros that they had just gotten. "That looks very good," Jessy stated.
All four of them asked for a gyro from the stand they were in front of and then chose one of the picnic tables to sit down at and enjoy their food.
