"Do you think Will is up to dating again?" Quinn asked thoughtfully as she looked over at Will who was ordering a round of drinks at the bar.
Jay just looked at her and shook his head.
"Yeah, I don't spend a huge amount of time thinking about my Brother's love life" He told her "Wouldn't it be weird if I got involved in your sisters love life?"
"Well she's married with kids so yes that would be weird, but if you were thoughtfully trying to set Connor up with an amazing girl then I would be all for it" She said with a look that implied 'so there'
"You know I'm single right?" Adam asked waving at her "Set me up, I don't mind"
"That might be a little bit awkward for you" She said shaking her head.
"Why who is it?" Adam asked furrowing his brow.
"Sylvie Brett" She replied.
"As in who was with Antonio?" Adam asked "Yeah, never mind"
"I told you" Jay said shaking his head "They're going to get back together, so there is no point, just leave them to it"
"Fine" She sighed pretending to give in.
She had absolutely no intention of dropping it. Sylvie deserved someone amazing. She wasn't sure who that but between her and Gabby they would find them.
"So, judging by the smile on this one's face all week married life has been good so far?" Adam asked.
"Maybe you just haven't been as annoying this week" Jay shrugged.
"It's been great" She replied shoving Jay playfully
"You'll see if you ever make it down the aisle" He added putting his arm around her and kissing her cheek.
"Ok" Will said putting down the beers he had balanced "What are we talking about?"
"How Adam is a serial fiancé" She replied.
"And Quinn wants to set you up with Sylvie" Adam added with a smirk.
"Really?" Will asked looking around "You would want to set me up?"
"Well I was coming up with a list of great guys with Gabby so naturally your name came up" She told him with a grin.
"But not me?" Adam asked furrowing his brow.
"No, it would have" She said carefully "Just you know, Antonio's ex, kind of awkward"
Adam looked satisfied with her response; she felt a little proud that she was still a good liar. She wasn't completely sure it was something to be proud of but at least she wasn't hurting his feelings. Someone who had been engaged three times with no intention of getting married wasn't at the top of her list. There was no doubt Adam was a really sweet guy, but she didn't think he was ready for another relationship yet. She was also sure he was probably still in love with Kim.
"I heard you were back" came a familiar voice from behind her.
"And I heard you've been holed up with Kitty for weeks" She said standing up and giving Kelly a hug.
"The blonde right?" Jay asked "Nice…I mean she seems like a nice girl, woman"
Quinn raised an eyebrow at him as he tried to dig himself out of the hole, he was making for himself.
"You are so whipped" Adam scoffed "You mean the smoking hot blonde from the wedding"
"And that" she said pointing at him "Is exactly why I didn't consider you"
"I thought you said you did?" Adam asked putting his hand to his chest "I'm hurt"
"I lied" She shrugged turning back to Kelly "So how is it going?"
"It's good" Kelly replied "Kitty is a lot of fun, we're seeing how it goes, she doesn't know if she's going to stay"
Quinn was really happy that Kelly was spending time with someone and not just another one-night stand. She wanted him to be happy. Kitty was fun and challenging but also really caring and sweet underneath it all.
"I bet it's hard being back here after a week in Hawaii" Kelly said.
Jay just shook his head with a smirk.
"She's been on a high that she got to be in on a surgery all week" He said "I don't think our wedding or honeymoon rank as the most exciting thing this month anymore"
"They're a close second" she teased "No, but seriously, it was amazing, but real life is just as good, and he couldn't wait to get back to work so I don't know why it's all on me"
"He gets to go undercover with me" Adam shrugged "Of course it's exciting"
"I think we've all got those types of jobs that take over our lives, you two are lucky you're so similar with work" Will laughed.
By the time Quinn and Jay got a cab home it was a little after midnight. She had never been so happy to take her heels off as they got in. Jay made her jump as he put his arms around her. She smiled as she leant back against him.
"I feel like I've hardly seen you this week" He said kissing her neck.
"I know" She sighed closing her eyes "But we've got tomorrow off"
"I have to go in" He told her.
Quinn groaned as she turned around to face him pouting slightly.
"I know I know" He said putting his hands on her waist "I'll make it up to you"
"It's fine" she said shaking her head "Things come up, we both know that"
"But I still want to make it up to you" He said grabbing her behind and making her giggle.
"Well then I guess I should let you" She said with a smile pulling him into a kiss.
For the rest of the week they were basically on opposite schedules. Quinn had a lot of overnight shifts. She barely got to see Jay. She had heard that Alvin Olinsky had been arrested in connection to a murder. She knew Jay was deeply affected by what was going on and she wanted to be there for him. She was worried about what being in his unit might mean for him. They had managed to talk a little bit, but Jay always shut down when it was something going on with him. He was good at being there for other people but not letting anyone be there for him.
Quinn was handing over to the Doctor taking over from her as she was coming off shift when Will came running over to her.
"What's going on?" she asked furrowing her brow.
"It's Al" He told her "He was stabbed, he's going into surgery"
"Does Jay know?" She asked feeling a lot more awake than what she had minutes before.
"His unit just came in" He told her putting a hand on her shoulder "Are you ok, you don't look so great"
"Just tired" She replied shaking her head "Thanks for letting me know, where is he?"
Will took her to the waiting room where Jay was sat with his partner Hailey and Adam. Kim was pacing back and forth, and Kevin was leaning against the wall.
Jay looked up as she walked over. He stood up as she put her arms around him.
"You should go home" He told her running a hand through her hair "You just came off a night shift"
"I'm not going anywhere" She said, "Can I get you anything?"
"I'm fine" He reassured her as she sat down in the chair beside him holding his hand "They had dropped the case; they were going to let him out today"
"I'm so sorry" She said unsure of what else she could possibly say.
She could tell as she saw Hank Voight walking up the room the news that was about to come. She saw that same look on practically a daily basis. She put a hand on Jay's arm as Hank walked into the room. Quinn felt her heart break as Hank delivered the news that Alvin hadn't made it. Jay stormed out of the room not able to be in there. She followed him outside and put a hand on his shoulder as he paced in the corridor with his fists clenched.
"It shouldn't have happened" He said angrily.
He buried his face in her shoulder as she held him.
"I have to go back in there" He said shaking his head.
"I can come with you" she offered.
"It's ok" He said taking her hand "I guarantee we're going to work the case; you should go home"
"Promise me you'll come right home after" She said looking him in the eye.
She knew he was right. There was no way Hank Voight wouldn't be working that case straight away and there was no way Jay would take the time he needed.
Quinn ran to the bathroom to throw up once Jay was back in the waiting room with his team. April was waiting for her when she came out.
"Are you alright?" April asked handing her a tissue "I saw you run so fast I wanted to check on you"
"I think it's just a combination of exhaustion and stress" She replied "Thank you"
"I heard what happened" April said, "Will he be ok?"
"I have no idea" She sighed "He's the kind of guy to keep everything close to his chest"
"I know the type" April said with a smile thinking about Ethan.
"Something about those military men" She joked as she washed her face.
Quinn went home. She knew she needed to sleep but she knew she wouldn't be able to. Not until Jay was back home and she knew he was ok.
