Whatever It Takes

Chapter Forty Five

"ITACHI!"

Sasuke's heart wrenching scream had been heard all throughout the castle. Sasuke rushed to Itachi's side, grabbing him and pulling him to his chest. He begged him to wake up, his hand quickly moving to remove the offending needle from his fiancée. His fingers tracing over his still warm flesh trying to get any kind of response from him.

Deidara and Sasori who had been looking for Itachi, wasted no time in locating the young prince when they had heard his scream. Needless to say, they were shocked at the sight before them. Sasuke was crying, holding onto an unconscious Itachi. In front of them, bloodied and decapitated was one Hyuuga Neji, the sight alone was enough to gag Deidara but Sasori tried to convince him to help him remove the body from there.

The two of them were arguing about how they should go about getting rid of him. They had to get Neji's body away from here before the king or anyone else saw it and they feared they wouldn't have enough time. Their whispers were getting to Sasuke as they claimed that this could get Itachi arrested and sentenced to death.

Sasuke tightened his arms around Itachi as he watched Deidara and Sasori get confronted with Genma and Suratobi. The two knights accessed the situation in front of them. The men seemed to be having a conflict about something, but it didn't last long when they turned to look at him and Itachi. If anything it looked like the blood had drained from their faces.

That was enough to get the two knights moving to collect the Hyuuga's body and severed head. Deidara and Sasori were quick in replacing said body with the bodies of dead guards. It completely changed the image of what had truly just happened. Sasuke could only watch the four men and flinched when Suratobi stepped close to him.

"Sorry little prince, but we don't want you nor Itachi facing consequences," Suratobi said as he picked up the swords that belonged to both Itachi and Sasuke and ran out of there. It had been fast, and incredibly confusing to Sasuke, to watch these people alter the scene from what had really taken place.

Suigetsu, after confirming with Sasori, rushed to Sasuke's side, gently telling him to hurry, to calm down, and that they had to move Itachi to medical care. That was the scene that Tsunade and Minato witnessed as they had rushed to see what the scream had been about. The scream had reached them all the way where they were still eating dinner. Both of them had been confused but when Naruto had asked where Sasuke was, it scared them and got them moving. The two of them had been worried about Sasuke and were glad when they finally found him.

Taking in the situation into consideration, that Sasuke told her that Itachi had been poisoned, she asked for help in removing Sasuke from Itachi so the long haired raven could be moved into medical care. If Itachi had been poisoned she would need to identify it quickly in order to save him. The faster they moved to find the answer the better, because poisons could have different effects on the body, depending on the poison itself.

Shizune had stayed behind momentarily to check on the guards, confirming they were dead. When she noticed the needle like tranquilizer shot, she grasped it and ran to go and have it analyzed, sure that it would help them figure out what had been shot into Itachi's system. When she returned, she saw that Tsunade was struggling and moved to help her.

Sasuke had kicked, screamed, and spat threats while clinging even tighter to Itachi, refusing to release his hold on him. When they managed to get his grip to release, Naruto had been a big help in holding his cousin down. Hearing Sasuke cry and curse them out, demanding that they return Itachi to him had been painful but necessary.

How could they help Itachi if Sasuke refused for anyone to come near him?

Shortly after, Juugo had also been moved into medical care, the door locked behind Tsunade and Shizune as both worked to figure out what was wrong with both men. They could identify a few poisons, and they hoped it wouldn't be a complicated one.

In the middle of all the chaos Minato found himself adding to it by demanding to know what had happened. The king was screaming at anyone to give him answers.

"Someone tell me what has happened here, I need to know now!" He screamed, but found that as long as Sasuke was worried about Itachi, he was not going to get anywhere. Suigetsu refused to answer, nor move away from Sasuke's side while Naruto looked like he was trying his best to keep his cousin from falling apart.

"I don't think right now is the right time," Kyuubi gently told him, placing his hand on his shoulder to calm him down. Nakoru was peacefully sleeping in his father's arms while all of this happened and Minato found himself trying not to cry. His family was hurting and he felt like there was nothing he could do. It drove him mad that right now both his babies were crying.

How frustrating.

Kushina noticed this and rushed to his side, holding him to her chest as he confided in her all of his frustrations. He just wanted to make things right! But right now he didn't know how he was going to do that. He didn't know what he could do to help. Kushina understood how her husband felt, and she tightened her hold on him.

"Be strong love, Sasuke and Naruto need you to be strong for them. It's going to be okay we will figure this out together," It hurt her to see all the men in her life crying. No, she was done with them getting hurt. She was ready to kick anyone's ass at this point.

An hour later, Tsunade was glad to deliver the news that what Itachi and Juugo had been injected with was just a regular tranquilizer, a sleeping serum, and both will recover just fine. She anticipated that they might feel nauseous and dizzy at first, but that would be a temporary effect. All Sasuke needed to know was that Itachi would be alright, and even before Tsunade finished explaining, Sasuke was already by Itachi's side.

His eyes moved over Itachi, his fiancée's wounds were all cleaned and bandage. Besides that, it looked like Tsunade had removed the shirt Itachi had been wearing. It hurt to see Itachi not moving, but the rise and fall of his strong chest reassured Sasuke that he was alright. He sat in the chair that was beside Itachi's bed and laid his head over his chest, his fingers curled into his brother's.

Sasuke felt like everything was a blur. It had all happened so fast, and right now all he could do was bury his face in Itachi's warm chest and pray he'd wake up soon. He wanted to yell, he wanted to cry again, but most of all, he wanted to tell Itachi he loved him over and over again. Seeing that things were a little less chaotic, Minato decided to ask once more.

"Suigetsu, what happened? Why was Itachi injured like that!" he demanded. Sighing, Suigetsu decided now that Sasuke seemed calmer it was time he explained what happened.

"King Minato, I have to say that Deidara and Sasori both found out that Tenten has been deceiving us. She was trying to alter the food this evening, and they had confronted her. She's wounded, and cuffed in the dungeons because she tried to stab Deidara with a knife. Besides her deceit, we were attacked and ambushed by guards not belonging to this kingdom." Suigetsu kept his gaze down, making sure he told the story exactly how Sasori had asked him to do so.

Minato was startled by his words.

"My king!" another guard rushed towards him, and Minato found himself shocked at what he had to say, "My king, it would seem that the attack was initiated by guards belonging to the Byakugan kingdom. I did as you asked and gather all the information you need, and it seems like the body found by prince Sasuke and Itachi was that of the head guard, Hoheto of the Hyuuga"

"King, the queen had us bring king consort, Lee," another three guards came in, a defeated looking Lee cuffed and held in place. It had taken them time and effort to find Lee, seeing as the man was hiding in the library. Kushina glowered at Lee, her fiery red hair seemed to dance around her in anger.

"Kushina," Minato whispered, but not surprised by her actions. While he was feeling hopeless his queen was thinking and it seemed this was one of the asses she wanted to kick.

"Can you explain to us, king consort Lee, why men from the kingdom that your husband is from, are here attacking my family!" She growled, making Lee flinch. The man looked at everyone there, looking like he wanted to make an excuse. Their glares suggested that he go with the truth, unless he wanted to lose his head. That was the last thing he wanted, especially when he was worried sick for his dear wife.

"I had no choice, I'm sorry but he has my wife, and I'm afraid that she will lose her life," he sobbed, crumbling into himself and falling on his knees. From there he told the whole story of what had happened, shocking everyone there at the lengths that Neji had gone through in his plan to kidnap Sasuke. It made Minato wonder more and more where the man was because right now he personally wanted to be the one to kill him.

With the new information, the king and queen set off to work on cleaning up this mess.

Kushina dispatched several guards to go and investigate the claims that Lee had made. The guards that were captured were all identified and confirmed a second time to belong to the byakugan kingdom and were locked away in the dungeon, awaiting their fate. Minato had made a call to King Hiashi, asking him to take responsibility for his nephew's actions. Said king claimed he would be making a visit, screaming that he did not believe what he was being told and wanted to see for himself. Minato told him he didn't give a flying fuck if he believed or not, because either way he was summoned to court where his guards will be judged for their actions.

Minato watched as Hiashi bristled and agreed he'd be there.

The mess was huge, but Minato and everyone else was making their best to clean it up as the night waned away. Their guards had been attacked when they had walked into the Rock household. They had managed to arrest the two guards there, and take Sakura into safety.

Lee cried in joy as he was reunited with Sakura in the early hours of the morning. The pink haired woman was treated for her wounds, cuts, and the pain that she had felt deep in belly. She cried though when Tsunade came back with bad news for them. Telling the couple that the reason why Sakura suffered abdominal pain, cramps, and was continuously bleeding was because she had a miscarriage. The miscarriage had happened when she suffered from the attack she had received along with the stress from the conditions she had been kept in.

The couple had not even known that they were pregnant yet, and it seemed like Sakura had been about two months along. Her body would soon flush the remains of the child out of her, and it would be like she never had been pregnant. Sakura bawled her eyes out, feeling a pain so deep in her chest and soul that was even more unbearable than that of her belly or any cut she had.

It broke Lee's heart to see the pain and tears on his beautiful wife's face. There was nothing he could do to right this and yet he couldn't stop blaming himself. He needed to feel like he could do something right, so Lee eagerly threw himself at the king, begging for mercy and that he would take any punishment that he deserved, so long as his wife could be free.

Minato and Kushina both sighed, it was a heavy decision. Lee would have to face trial, but they now had to consider that Sakura would need him to be there for her.

The mess the Hyuuga had created would not be easily cleaned, it seemed.

For Sasuke the hours were long and slow as he waited for Itachi to wake up. Tsunade had told him it would take time but Sasuke wasn't known for his patience. He ran his fingers over the silky raven hair, trying hard not to think of the worst. He wanted Itachi to wake up already! He wanted to be held by him because right now he felt like he was under distress, scared, and alone. Sighing heavily, he could already imagine Itachi smiling at him, pocking his forehead, and asking him for... patience.

It was late afternoon when Naruto decided he couldn't keep seeing Sasuke looking so miserable. His cousin was covered in dirt, and blood. He looked like he needed a lot of sleep, but his cousin refused to move from Itachi's side or even look away from him for even a second. He specially didn't like that Sasuke wasn't even wearing any shoes and was scared his cousin would get sick.

"Sasuke, you must be tired, why don't you go shower and I'll watch over Itachi for a while?" Naruto offered. Sasuke trembled, shaking his head no and refusing.

"Sasuke, Itachi wouldn't want to see you like this. Why don't you and Naruto go together and I'll stay with Itachi. He'll be fine, I promise," Kyuubi who was holding his sleeping son offered. He thought maybe a bit of support from Naruto would be beneficial for Sasuke to be able to go shower and dress properly.

"I can't," Sasuke shook his head. He didn't want Itachi out of his sight for even a second. This was all his fault. If he would have been faster in defeating Neji, Itachi wouldn't have to come save him. Itachi wouldn't have to get hurt!

"Sasuke, I'll be here too, go with your cousin and come back quickly," Suigetsu offered, knowing the fear that Sasuke held was not only letting Itachi out of his sight but that he would vanish if he did. He knew the little raven feared that something bad would happen, or that someone would take Itachi away, but that would never happen. Suigetsu refused for that to happen to Sasuke.

"Really, Itachi is fine, I promise," Tsunade reasoned when she noticed that everyone was trying to get Sauske to go get cleaned up. Earlier she had to cut off Itachi's shirt and got rid of his jeans for a pair of sweats, just to try and keep his bandages and wounds clean. She had been worried about the amount of dirt and blood that had covered him.

Even so, Sasuke would get Itachi dirty, seeing as the boy was clinging to his arm tightly.

"Sasuke, please," his aunt Kushina pleaded, placing a hand on his shoulder. Sasuke flinched but when he turned to look at her he found himself nodding his head and finally giving in to their coaxing. He allowed Naruto to grab him by the arm and lead the way back to his bedroom. It'll only be for a moment, he decided, and he will be right back.

Everyone sighed in relief once Sasuke was gone.

"Man if he isn't attached to Itachi," Tsunade groaned, and took Sasuke's seat. She reached for the dirtied bandages, and started to remove them from Itachi, replacing them with fresh clean ones. "You better not leave him Itachi, that boy will die without you," Everyone agreed with her as she patted the sleeping Uchiha on his shoulder.

"It's nice though, to know that Sauske is with the one that he loves. It makes me worry about him less." Minato sagely nodded his head while Tsunade and Kushina threw him disbelieving looks. Kyuubi and Suigetsu had to flinch at that, knowing that both women were not going to let Minato off the hook that easily.

"You came between them my dear," Kushina remarked.

"I just wanted Itachi to prove his love!" Minato defended.

"What? Like this?" She threw her hand out to signal Itachi's current state of unconsciousness.

"What, no! You know that's not true!" Minato looked like he regretted many things in life, but he didn't want to think that he had been the reason for placing his family in danger.

Kushina chuckled at her husband's fearful face, reaching to him, "We know Minato, I was just teasing you. I'm just scared. Wherever that Hyuuga is, he went too far. He needs to face consequences. I fear if he doesn't he could try again and hurt Sasuke." Kushina tightened her arms around him. "Itachi is family now and he dared to touch him too."

Minato agreed with her, "Sadly my love, he has not been found. No one seems to know his whereabouts." Minato sighed, feeling hopeless. "If we find him, we will make him face the consequences. He won't getting near our family again," Minato assured.

"I bet his family is covering for him, keeping him hidden so that he doesn't have to face any consequences," Kyuubi hissed, gently cradling his sleeping son. Everyone there looked like they were ready to murder the Hyuuga, if given half the chance.

"Whether they are or aren't, I have already requested for King Hyuuga Hiashi to come and face the trials," Minato growled. If there was anything he held, it was fate that the other king would do the right thing and turn his nephew in once he realizes how far he went.

"What about Hizashi? Isn't the brother of King Hiashi the one that we're supposed to be confronting?" Tsunade asked.

"Yeah, the trial will be held as soon as Orochimaru is found and they all said that they will come, but like I said, they keep saying that they themselves don't know the whereabouts of Neji." This led to a very tense silence as they all thought about where the Hyuuga could have gone.

"If I ever see him, I'll kill him myself!" Kushina roared, suddenly flaming while he hair waved and danced around her head.

Suigetsu inwardly flinched, but remained quiet. He knew that Neji was never going to be found, Deidara and Sasori were the ones to thank for that. The loyalty those two showed for Itachi and Sasuke was astounding, and they were not the only ones. It had been a team operation, and Suigetsu was sure that no one was going to be talking about the whereabouts of the late Hyuuga Neji.

A few minutes later Sasuke and Naruto returned. Sasuke looked freshly showered and clean. Not that it mattered, in seconds they all watched as Sasuke climbed in next to Itachi. The hospital bed seemed to be big enough to fit the both of them comfortably as Sasuke curled his body against the still unconscious Uchiha. It didn't look like the little prince was going to be moving away from Itachi any time soon, and if anything looked like he had just settled down to sleep.

No one was sure how to react to that but they knew they didn't want to disturb them. Slowly and quietly they stated to move out of the room. Suigetsu watched them all go taking the seat that Tsunade had vacated and sighed.

"Finally, they're all gone," He groaned as he stretched himself. A smile crossed his face as silence lingered around them in a silent calm. On the flip side, it felt so good to be alive and know that both Sasuke and Itachi were safe. He prayed to anyone out there that was willing to listen that this was the end, and that things would remain this peaceful.

"Did you get what you wanted?"

"Hell yeah! Can you believe he gave it to a noob? No worries kubikiribōchō is in good hands now." Suigetsu boasted, rubbing his head as in his head he plotted how he was going to be using that baby.

"How is Juugo?"

"Hm, he's good, the dude woke up once but went back to sleep saying he couldn't handle the side effects yet," Suigetsu shrugged, his eyes taking in Sasuke's tense form against Itachi.

Sasuke tightened his arms around Itachi, there were side effects? Where they permanent? No, he had to stay positive. Tsunade had said they would be temporaty, Itachi will get through this, "and that bastard?"

"Six feet under,"

"Excellent"
