Sunday
Hermione, Ron, Draco, and I had an annoyingly large amount of homework to catch up on before dinner tonight, so we spent our entire day in the library.
To be fair, Hermione wasn't really 'catching up' but 'finished her work' and 'helping the less fortunate', as Ron put it.
Draco didn't have much trouble catching up either, Ron and I were both going to marry an annoyingly smart witch and wizard.
As Ron and I struggled to finish our paper on the three signs that someone is under the Imperious Curse, Hermione and Draco talked about the future.
"I plan to change things up at the ministry and work my way up to minister of magic. Something has to change here."
Draco nodded in agreement, "of course, of course."
"I mean, I just don't understand how such medieval laws are still passing as acceptable, especially regarding muggleborn witches and the law surrounding non-wizard magic creatures, like house elves, centaurs, and giants."
"That's quite an undertaking."
"She will obviously be the breadwinner." Ron joked.
"You can only be the breadwinner if you're married, Ronald."
Draco laughed.
She turned her attention back to Draco, "what are you interested in? Any ideas for after school?"
Draco shrugged, "I'll be inheriting the entire Malfoy estate, so I'm sure I'll be busy sorting things out, for a while."
"Okay, Finally done." I announced, "anyway, it's not like you have to work if you don't want to, you have time to figure it out."
"I'm happy to be working with George when I leave here. I worry about him." Ron said, rolling up his parchment.
I looked at my watch, nearly 5pm, "we should go get ready. Draco, I'll meet you by the front doors in an hour, okay, babe?"
He nodded at me, headed for his own room to freshen up.
We appeared about half a mile away from the Burrow, I laced my fingers through Dracos and pulled him along with me for the walk towards the towering home. Ron and hermione were walking with us.
"What do you think Molly will say?" Hermione asked.
"She'll be fine. Harry can do nothing wrong in her eyes."
I rolled my eyes, even though it was pretty much true.
We made it to the front door, Molly was there waiting for us. She hugged us each one by one, including Draco.
Ginny was already here, Blaise sitting uncomfortably beside her. We locked eyes, 'sorry' he mouthed to me across the living room. I gave him a curt nod. Draco headed over there to shake his hand, I saw him lean in and whisper something to Blaise, who laughed and put his arm around Ginny. We all sat in the living room while Molly finished dinner, she always refused help. Everything was going great. Noone was acting as though Ginny and I had split just two months ago, that I was now dating Draco Malfoy, and Ginny had brought home Blaise.
After dinner, we all sat around the table. Draco insisted that Molly sit while he and Blaise cleared the table. She blushed with the politeness they were oozing over her.
When they'd finished, I stood, "can I have everyone's attention?" they all quited and looked at me, "well, ahem. I - Draco and I have been dating for a while now, uh, and I'm happy to announce, you were the first people I wanted to tell, we are engaged to be married." I held up my hand to show my ring.
Molly jumped up, gasping. She reached for my hand to admire my ring.
"Harry, this is stunning."
"I know." I smiled at her.
I saw the tears brimming at her eyes, "Harry, I'm so happy for you." She turned sharply to Draco, "oh my, come here!" She gathered Draco in her arms, holding him in a right hug, "welcome to the family, Draco! Oh!" she wiped her eyes.
Arthur stood to shake Draco's hand, then clasped me in a hug.
Hermione and Ron sat across from us, beaming, Hermione trying not to cry.
Finally I could relax. Everything was good. My family was supportive, Draco's mother was accepting, we'd be getting married next summer when school was out . . . Narcissa was no doubt already planning it out.
The biggest obstacle was over, now I just had to wait for the Prophet to find out, announce it, and deal with the public backlash.
