Hidden Tales From The Chamber of Secrets - 88 - Key to Escape

.

.

Sat in the ruins of Grimmauld Place, Harry Potter mentally reviewed the state of his world.

While he had defeated Voldemort, and while the Dark Lord's Death Eaters were all gone, the British wizarding world had ultimately lost the war. It had cost everything to defeat the darkness. Of his friends, only Ron Weasley still drew breath - not that he did much more than that. Ron was too stubborn to die, even with his mind gone the way that the Longbottoms had.

Diagon Alley was little more than a bomb site, laid bare to the world beyond the wards that once hid it. The Ministry of Magic was a crater half-filled with the rubble of the office block that formerly stood a hundred feet above the Ministry atrium.

Hogwarts had survived. Barely. A century of rebuilding might bring it back almost to its former glory, but Hogsmead was gone, little more than charred timbers and tumbled stone.

Number twelve, Grimmauld Place was open to the sky, and Harry was aware that it had started raining on him. Again.

He slammed his hands down on the damaged kitchen table he was sat at.

"I need to ESCAPE!"

Harry's yell was punctuated by a wild slam of his left palm a way toward the other side of the table.

He felt something give way ...

... and the world dissolved into a chaotic mess similar to Dudley's broken telly back at Privet Drive.

There was a sucking sensation at the base of his skull, and his memories returned as the VR system disconnected from his brain. A moment of nauseous vertigo and his eyes opened on the interior of his cabin, his left hand on the button of the ESCape key of his keyboard.

Stranded twenty thousand light years from Earth, aboard the space yacht Hermione, he could do nothing but while away the months and years of his remaining life by spending time in total immersion virtual reality games.
