Chapter Thirty

April 25, 2006 (11 PM)

The run to Seattle had been an interesting one. Jasper kept going over the plan with Edward and Alice trying to see the different ways things would work out. The best way for this to work out is to have Charlie come out human and safe. I am not sure how Bella would handle losing her father, especially since she would blame herself because she knows he is being used at bait because of her. Jasper sighs and looks around.

He can see Rosalie, Edward, Esme and Bella on their post four buildings down keeping watch for Victoria. Bella isn't happy about not being part of the group to go into the warehouse to save her dad. However, everyone convinced her there might be blood so it was safer this way, no matter how much control she had.

Tanya, Alice and Peter are on their post four buildings down the opposite way, also on the lookout. Jasper is glad Peter is with them. I know Alice can take care of herself, but I feel better knowing she is with an experienced fighter like Peter.

And walking up and down the street were Charlotte, Emmett and Garrett who are trying to leave enough trails to distract Victoria with scents she didn't know. And of course, Emmett had to be where there might be the most action. Jasper smirks and shakes his head as he thinks about when they had bumped into Garrett on the run here. Garrett was ready to fight because he thought he was in danger, but as soon as he saw Carlisle he smiled and relaxed. Carlisle gave him a short version of why they were heading to Seattle with so many. Garrett thought it was weird they were trying to save a human, but he said he was in. It had shocked everyone but he explained he was always up for a good fight. Emmett and him had become quick friends.

Carlisle and Jasper are getting ready to sneak into the warehouse. It was decided they would go in because everyone knew Charlie needed a doctor and Jasper had tons of fighting experience in case there was someone they didn't know with Charlie. Plus, if Charlie got too upset Jasper could calm him down if needed.

When they had got to Seattle and the port, it had been easy to find the warehouse with only one heartbeat coming from it. Everyone is worried about how his heart sounds, but knew they had to be careful how they handled it with Victoria still walking around. She would not be doing that for much longer though.

The plan is as soon as someone spots her, the groups on the roofs are to corner her and all of them are to destroy her. Charlotte, Emmett and Garrett are going to help as well. They figure no matter what her power is she would be no match for ten of them.

Carlisle looks at Jasper and asks "Ready?" Jasper nods and they quickly climb the wall, go through the window and land lightly on the other side. They spot Charlie right away laying on the other side of the building. Both run over to him.

"Charlie?" Carlisle asks as he takes his pulse. It is weak, very weak. Carlisle quickly gets to work on trying to make Charlie better.

Jasper looks towards the window. I can feel the fear coming from someone. "Carlisle, I am going to go look out the window to make sure all is okay. I will not be far."

Carlisle barely responds while he works away on Charlie. Jasper quickly scales the wall and smiles at the sight in front of him. He jumps down and goes back to Carlisle. I wish I could be out there, but Charlie is in destress and if I left I would not be able to keep him calm for Carlisle. At least I know everyone is safe.

(11:20 PM)

Victoria is walking back to the warehouse where her human is hidden. She loves that humans would build things then decide they didn't need them, but still leave them standing. She had just finished a good meal and is ready to torture him some more. It is a lot easier to do when she is full.

Victoria freezes. Her sixth sense is telling her to run. But why? She smells the air. Crap, she thinks there are a couple of vampires running around here. I hope they didn't eat him.

She starts to run towards the warehouse, but freezes again. She keeps feeling more and more like she needs to run. She looks around and sees nothing. Why is she so nervous? She starts going towards the warehouse again, this time a little slower while looking around for any clue as to why she is scared.

As she nears the building she slows down a little more. Now she knows she is being followed. She flips around and starts to run only to be pinned to the ground. She growls and bites the arm holding her down.

Emmett growls in pain but holds her tighter and pulls her to her feet. Victoria looks around to see she is now completely surrounded by THE CULLENS!

"How did you find me!?" She yelled.

Alice smirks an evil grin and answers "Well, if you didn't want us to find you, you shouldn't have showed me you hunting one time. Oh, or tell Charlie how my power works so he could give us clues as to where he was."

Victoria's eyes are huge. She is looking around franticly for way out.

Emmett laughs "Did you really think you would get away with hurting someone we loved? Come on, even you can't be that stupid."

Edward is holding onto Bella just to make sure she doesn't jump at Victoria and get hurt. He starts laughing. "Look all you want Victoria, there is NO way you are leaving. You are going to die, right here."

Victoria, trying her hardest not to show her fear, laughs weakly. "Well, I have gotten my revenge to some degree. I'm sure that old man will be dead any minute with how I treated him."

Bella growls and pulls against Edward. He holds her tighter trying to remind her to wait just a few more minutes.

Peter walks up with an evil smile on his face. "Now, this might hurt a bit, but then you are going to get to meet dear Bella." Peter quickly reaches out and grabs the arm Emmett let go of and they both pull an arm off.

Esme and Charlotte step aside and build a fire while Bella rips Victoria's head off. She throws it in the fire then starts heading towards the warehouse knowing the others will finish Victoria off.

(11:30 PM)

Bella and Edward rush into the warehouse to see Charlie. Edward has warned her he isn't good and to be prepared. But when she sees him she still crumbles to the floor sobbing. "What have I done?"

Edward is there before she has finished her question rocking her gently. "You didn't do anything. Carlisle will do all he can to save him."

Edward, there is only one way to save him now. He was sick when he was kidnapped, and now with all his wounds, he is just too old and fragile to be able to heal himself.

Edward sighs. "Bella? You need to make a decision. Carlisle has done all he can, but your dad is too weak. He is going to die in a few minutes. Or Carlisle can save him the way he saved me."

Bella shoots up and out of Edward's arms. "You mean change him?! I can't make that decision for him. I don't want to lose him Edward, but how do I make that decision for him?"

Edward looks back towards the door where Tanya has walked in. He looks at her questioningly. Bella turns to see what he is looking at and sighs when she spots who it is.

"I know you two don't want me around, but I came to see if I could help. I am not here to make any trouble. I am going to see what I can do to help Carlisle out." Tanya says on her way by.

Edward looks at her in confusion. She is trying to hide her thoughts, but she keeps thinking about Charlie's heartbeat and how it is sad to hear it so weak. How she wished she could have heard it when it was healthy. She had come in because she wanted to see who the heartbeat belongs to.

Bella looks at Edward and takes her shield down. What's going on Edward? As soon as she asks she puts her shield back up. Edward looks at Bella and smiles. He hopes she will keep doing that forever. He loved that he could hear her now, even if it is only for a sentence.

Edward shrugs at her. He isn't sure, but has a small idea. First he needs to talk to Jasper to confirm his suspicion.

"Jasper, come here for a minute please." Edward asks. Jasper looks at him in confusion and walks over to them. Yes? All Edward does is point at Tanya then gives him a questioningly look. You want to know what she is feeling? Edward nods. Okay…I wonder why. Well, she is feeling confusion and…LOVE? Edward, I think she loves Charlie! How can she when she has never met him before?

Edward shakes his head. "How could Carlisle love Esme within a few minutes? How could I love Bella even when I wanted to kill her for her blood? Love does not always make sense."

Carlisle looks at Edward and Jasper "What's going on?"

Jasper walks back to him explaining "We think Charlie might be Tanya's mate." Bella and Tanya gasp.

"But I don't know him. I was just fascinated by his heartbeat." Tanya says in shock.

When Tanya speaks this time she is right next to Charlie and he hears her voice. His heart rate picks up weakly and he opens his eyes for the first time since they got there. He murmurs "I must be dying, why else would someone so beautiful be here."

Tanya turns and looks at his brown bloodshot eyes then falls to her knees. "Please Carlisle, please save him."

Carlisle turns towards Bella. "What do you want me to do Bella? It is ultimately your choice."

He turns to Tanya who is growling a little bit. "I'm sorry Tanya, but it is her father so it is her choice. Though with the way you are acting I am thinking Jasper and Edward are right."

He turns back to Bella and gives her a pleading look. Carlisle wants to change him so he can see his friend who has been alone for so long finally happy, but he won't do it without the okay from Bella.

Bella looks between her dad and Tanya. She walks over to her dad and sits on his other side. Tanya doesn't look up but says "Please, Bella."

Bella sighs. She bends down and whispers in her dad's ear. "I'm sorry, Dad. It has to be this way. I hope someday you will forgive me for what we are about to do to you." She kisses his cheek softly then pulls away.

She stands, turns around and runs straight into Edward's arms. Bella hugs him tight. "Carlisle, save him."

She will do anything to make everyone happy. I can tell that was a hard decision for her to make. But I can also sense she might have decided something else too. Jasper smirks when Edward swings his head quickly towards him. Yes, I feel like she is not fighting her feelings for you anymore, or at least not as much. If she does still fight them it will not be for much longer.

Edward looks down at Bella and smiles. He sure hopes Jasper is right. He looks up and sees Tanya has gone to stand next to Jasper and is leaning into him. Jasper looks at him then puts his arm around her in support.

Carlisle starts to bite Charlie and Bella starts sobbing when she hears her dad start screaming in pain.
