Sabrina let out a sigh of annoyance as she took a left turn on the road. "The whole point of a phone is that you answer it."
"Sorry, I was about to head to the school but venue for homecoming has changed," Stefan's voice called out from the car stereo.
"To the Lockwood's, I know."
"What's up, Sabrina?"
"I need you to stop Mikael from killing Klaus."
The silence that followed concluded her speculation that Stefan was a little stunned by what she had just said.
"And why would I do that?"
"Do you honestly think with Klaus dead Mikael won't be a threat? There's also gonna be an army of hybrids ready to tear Damon apart if he goes through with it" she replied.
A silent pause. "I don't care."
Sabrina scoffed. "Sure you don't Stef. But fine, if that doesn't interest you may be getting your freedom will."
"I know you're not the selfish type but what do you get?" she smiled, Stefan was quick to catch on to the one thing that pushed her into making this decision.
The grin stayed in her face as realisation came to Stefan. "Of course."
"Regardless of what I want it's in your best interest, don't you think?" she asked him
She could sense the shrug he gave through the call. "I don't know how I would do it"
"They're not expecting you to interfere. Alaric always said the element of surprise is your greatest strength against a vampire."

The night of the homecoming dance was the perfect time for Sabrina to catch up with the work she was behind on. One pile of papers sat on her desk, another below her desk and on top of her dresser. A smaller stack was placed near the foot of the bed. With manila files and highlighter in hand, she sat with her back against the end of the bed as she ran the neon ink across the words under a picture of an old water fountain from newspaper clipping that she held.
A few rapid buzzing sounds came from behind her. Placing the highlighter between her teeth Sabrina reached out her hand behind her head, moving it left and right until it knocked into the phone that sat on her mattress. Pulling in front of her, she read the text lit up on her phone.
Stefan
Klaus is alive. Mikael is dead.
She took in a deep breath as the screen went to sleep mode. It felt like a small weight had been lifted but now another one threatened to push down. Sabrina wasn't able to ponder on it for long as the sound of the front door opening pulled her out of thought.
Placing the phone, file and pen down she timidly made her way downstairs. Alaric was in the kitchen, fiddling with the coffee maker. His head looked up as the sound of her entering the area caught his attention.
"Done with the cave drawings?" she asked nervously.
"I just got an earful from Damon. Something about the plan to kill Klaus failing." Sabrina's natural instinct was to look away. If her facial expression and tone of voice didn't give it away her demeanour sure did. "Did you have anything to do with it?"
She twiddled her fingers. "Are you angry?"
"I don't think I could ever be angry at you Sabrina," he sighed leaning on the island barstool. He made apparent eye contact at the seat opposite him then back at Sabrina, indicating her to sit.
"Was what I did wrong?" she asked following his non-verbal instruction.
Alaric focused back on the coffee machine. "I think it's both a blessing and a curse to care as deeply as you do."
He placed two empty coffee comes on the island before pulling out a seat for himself.
"I don't remember the last time I sat down to talk about something none vampire related," she reminisced putting an elbow on the counter and leaned her chin in her hands.
"I'm all ears. Just nothing to do with shopping," he said with a slight laugh.
She gave a small smile watching him get up to retrieve the coffee. This was what normal felt like. It wasn't girls night with Jenna but the feeling of it was similar and that's what made her happy.

The usual routine of the Alarm ringing on the bedside table woke her. The notification bar popped up after Sabrina reached out to turn it off. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, she sat up. It was a text from Stefan, asking to meet at the old witches house.
