Chapter 46: Declan's Revenge Part 1

A few minutes later, Yuya and Declan were standing in the Duel Court, everyone else watching from the viewing room while Claude operated the ARC System.

"Are you ready, Yuya?"

"Ready to make you pay."

"Then lets begin this duel. Claude, give our guests a reminder of what we're fighting for."

Nodding, Claude typed in a few commands on his keyboard, transforming the field into Neo Heartland City, to everyone's shock.

"Shay, isn't that-"

"My homeland."

Yuya looked around at the massive city around them.

"Interesting choice of battlefield."

"It seems you need a demonstration of just how much power our enemies possess. Now, enough talk, time for action."

"I couldn't agree more."

DUEL!

Declan: 4000

Yuya: 4000

"Since I went first the last time we dueled, I'll let you go first."

"As you wish. To start, I activate Dark Contract with the Gate, adding D/D Swirl Slime to my hand. Next, I activate the effect of my D/D Swirl Slime in my hand, discarding it and my D/D Berfomet to reintroduce someone you might remember: D/D/D Flame King Genghis, in attack mode. Next, I summon D/D Nighthowl, and use his ability to special summon D/D Berfomet back to the field (1400-0/1800-0). Next, I tune Nighthowl with Berfomet to Synchro summon D/D/D Gust King Alexander! This allows me to use Genghis's special ability to return D/D Berfomet to the field once more. This in turn triggers Alexander's effect, allowing me to revive D/D Swirl Slime. Next, I use Berformet's effect to change Swirl Slime's level to 4 (2-4). And with these two monsters I build the overlay network to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave King Caesar!"

Declan's three kings slammed onto the field, weapons at the ready as Declan played his next card.

"I activate Card on Sanctity, giving us both a full hand. Lastly, I set two cards face down and end my turn."

Yuya drew his card and decided on his next move.

"To start off, I set the pendulum scale with the Scale 4 Performapal Trump Witch and the Scale 8 Performapal Card Gardna. Now I can Pendulum Summon monsters between level 5 and seven at the same time. Swing far, Pendulum, carve the arc of victory! I Pendulum Summon Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Stargazer Magician, and Performapal Drummerilla!"

Yuya's three monsters emerged from the portal, doing their best to intimidate the royal demons. Declan merely pushed his glasses up in annoyance.

"Impressive, but not very. If you want to make me pay, you'll have to do better than that."

"Well, its a good thing I have my Trump Witch on hand! Her Pendulum ability allows me to fuse monsters on my field without Polymerization!"

"What?"

"So I fuse Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon with Stargazer Magician to fusion summon Rune Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"

Yuya's mystic evolution of his ace monster emerged in a dazzling array of sparkles. Declan smirked in approval.

"Excellent. I knew you had recently taken up Fusion summoning, but I didn't know you had mastered it to this extent."

"Impressed, Declan?"

"Perhaps, but before you do anything else I activate my Wave King Caesar's special ability to remove one overlay unit!"

Everyone gasped in horror, waiting in baited anticipation at what would happen next...

only for nothing to happen, leaving everyone to fall to the floor.

"That's it? It just uses an overlay unit and its done?"

"What was even the point."

"Just you wait. Whenever Declan does anything, it has a purpose."

Recovering from the shock, Yuya continued his move.

"Well, I've got some bad news for you. Since I used a level 5 or higher Spellcaster as fusion material, my Rune Eyes can attack all 3 of your kings. Go ahead and dethrone them, Rune Eyes!"

Declan barely reacted as the huge wave of fire headed towards his Genghis, simply flipping over his face down.

"I activate Dark Contract with the Witch, giving all of my monsters 1000 attack points during the battle phase (2000-3000) (2400-3400) (2500-3500)."

"Maybe so, but my Drummerilla gives my Rune Eyes 600 attack points (3000-3600), meaning he still has enough to take out your monsters!"

Despite the power boost, Flame King Genghis was too weak to survive the onslaught, bursting into pixels as the wave tore up the street Yuya and Declan were on.

Declan: 3400

"Take out his Wave King next, Rune Eyes!"

Once more, the demon king was obliterated by the onslaught, this time destroying several street lamps.

Declan: 3200

Despite the destruction that was happening around him, Declan remained completely calm.

"When my Wave King is sent from the field to the graveyard, I can add a Dark Contract from my deck to my hand. I add Dark Contract with the Swamp King."

"Not that it'll matter. Take out his Gust King, Rune Eyes!"

With a mighty roar and a wave of dark energy, Declan's final monster exploded, causing fires to erupt around the two duelists.

Declan: 3100

"And next, Drummerilla attacks you directly!"

Drummerilla bounded over to him before beating him mercilessly, but Declan kept his cool.

Declan: 1500

"I activate the trap card Contract Laundering. This destroys all of my face up Dark Contract cards, and allows me to draw a card for each one. I also gain 1000 life points for each."

A green aura enveloped Declan, increasing his life points as he drew two cards from his deck.

Declan: 3500

Yuya grunted in discontent.

"I end my turn there. You're up."

Then, to everyone's surprise, Declan's three demons burst out of the scorched earth, the fires surrounding them dying down from their mere presence.

"What? But I destroyed them."

"You didn't think my Wave King Caesar was just for show, did you? By detaching an overlay unit from him during either of our turns, I can revive any of my monsters destroyed this turn when the battle phase ends. But this does come with a price; during my next standby phase, I'll take 1000 points of damage for each one."

Their audience watched in shock.

"Ah man, now Yuya's back to square one."

"No, not exactly. Declan's got seven cards in his hand, and any one of them could turn this duel around. Gong don't like the looks of this."

Declan smirked as he drew his card.

"Don't forget, now you take 3000 points of damage from Wave King Caesar's effect."

Declan remained stoic as his life points were sapped from him.

Declan: 500

"That's exactly what I wanted, for when I take effect damage, I can Special Summon D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas from my hand to regain the life points I lost."

Yuya grunted as Declan's life points returned to their former amount.

Declan: 3500

"Next, I activate the effect of D/D Swirl Slime in my graveyard. By banishing him from the graveyard, I can special summon a D/D monster right from my hand, so come forth D/D/D Doom King Armaggedon!"

Declan's ace monster appeared, eyes glowing menacingly. Yuya gulped as Declan's five monsters glared him down, weapons drawn and at the ready.

"Now Yuya, still think you have what it takes to defeat me?"
