They dressed in black robes and went out to the private cemetery in the middle of the wood. James, Sirius, and Remy stood off to one side while a large crowd gathered around them. The boys each held one of Remy's hand and preformed the burial ritual solemnly. A soft rain began as they walked out in front of the crowd. The ballroom at the Potters was soon filled with people, but the three were no where to be found.

"That was the worst thing I've ever had to do," James said laying back against the roof staring at the cigarette in his hand.

"I hate this shit. I'm so fucking sorry Prongs, it's bullshit that you are supposed to go stand there and let people talk to you about Mum and Dad."

"At least it's not just me. I couldn't do this shit without you both. Mum and Dad saw you both as their kids."

"I just want to hug Nora again. It was almost like having my Mom back, but without any of the bad shit. And Charles was such a great man. Watching the way your parents were with each other made me believe that all that stuff around love might be real."

"Yeah, they really were so in love. That's why I always held out for Lily. I knew she was worth the wait, however long it took."

Sirius slipped his arm around Remy and pulled her in close. James smiled at them, but didn't ask any questions. Whatever was going on with them was more complicated than he could ever understand. The three stayed like that until dusk not really saying much to each other.

When they finally slipped back inside James' window they just stood in his room. They didn't know what to say to each other and they certainly weren't going to join the funeral group downstairs.

"I know this is really stupid, but I don't want to be alone tonight. I can ask Lily-"

"Prongs, mate don't worry about it. We'll stay."

The three of them were hardly separated over the next week and once the returned to school. They were walking each other to lessons they weren't in and waiting outside until they finished. While other students took notice no one said anything.

Remy was smoking sitting on edge of the owlery stairs when Lily found her. Lily looked surprised and Remy didn't seem to notice her presence.

"Remy?"

"Shit, Lily you scared me. Sorry was just off somewhere else."

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah I just needed some air and I had time to kill until James is done with rounds."

"Where's Sirius?"

"With James, it's his night."

"You trade off?"

"Sometimes, it's not planned or anything. If something doesn't suit having both of us there than just one of us will tag along."

"Yeah, I've noticed," Lily's voice had a bite to it that Remy didn't care for.

"You can't possibly be jealous."

"I'm not!"

"Okay, just keep that to yourself. James doesn't need that bullshit right now."

"And you're in charge of what he needs?"

"Lily why are you doing this?"

"Because I shouldn't have to just sit back and watch you shag my boyfriend."

"Damn Lily, what's the matter with you? I'm not fucking James. I'm just trying to look out for my friend."

"Then why were you two together every night this week in the heads lounge? Why were you wearing nothing but his shirt this morning?"

"Christ Lily, that's Sirius' shirt or maybe it is James', but I took it off Sirius. And I've slept next to James most nights for a year. He just doesn't like sleeping alone. So either me or Sirius stay with him. It's usually both of us. And he is really fucking embarrassed by that so don't go throwing it in his face."

"Sirius is staying there too?"

"Yeah, the nights are the worst for James and he doesn't want anyone to see him like that. He's getting worse and no one knows how to help him."

"I want to help."

"I know you do. Just don't push him too hard. You guys had just hooked up before everything happened and he didn't want things to go like this. He's crazy about you and doesn't want to fuck everything up."

"Really?" Lily was fighting back tears.

"Of course Lily! He's been crazy about you for years and now that you're finally interested his whole life is falling apart."

"Can I ask you something and you won't get upset?"

Remy thought this over for a minute before she shook her head yes.

"How did you know you were in love with Sirius?"

Remy blushed and stared off at her feet. She didn't realize she had been so obvious.

"I guess I've always known to some extent. That first night he came to check in on me when I was screaming in my sleep and it was electric. If I hadn't been in so much pain I would have asked him to stay. And then everything just kind of grew and developed. We were slow with each other because we're both terrified, but I guess that's part of it too."

"And with Remus?"

Remy took a long pause before she continued.

"Remus just sort of hit me all at once. I thought he was handsome, but never really thought of him as more than a dear friend until suddenly I did. And he just makes me feel so safe and cared for," Remy trailed off because she was crying hard now.

"I'm sorry Remy, I didn't mean to make you cry."

"It's okay, you're not the idiot who did this. I should have never gotten into this with either of them. I just figured I'd get over the shit with Sirius, but instead I just fucked things up with both of them."

"Rems?" Sirius asked rounding the corner.

She wouldn't meet his gaze and stood up to brush past him. When he tried to catch her hand she pulled away hard. Sirius turned to Lily quickly.

"What the fuck did you do?"

"Pads, mate calm down. Let Lily explain herself."

"We were just talking about everything going on and love and it just sort of got out of hand."

Sirius just sighed and start chasing after Remy. He knew he wasn't going to like whatever had her this upset, but he didn't want her wondering around the castle like this.

When Sirius rounded the last of the staircase he saw her there wrapped up against Remus. It's official, he's the biggest git in history. He can't figure out why he keeps falling for her bullshit. She's never going to pick him.
