Day 47: "No"
"Hey, Evans-"
Lily didn't even bother to look up from her textbook, "No."
"You don't even know what I was going to say!" James protested.
"You were going to ask me out. Again. The answer is no, Potter. And it always will be. No matter how many times you ask."
"You could at least bother to look at me when you reject me," There was a pout in James' voice, but then he smirked, "You probably know you couldn't resist this face."
Lily slowly and purposefully marked her place in her book, then closed it and looked James directly in the eye, "No." Then she opened the book back up and went back to reading as if he had never interrupted her.
James just stood there for a few seconds then slunk back across the common room to his friends.
Sirius snickered, "Rough break, mate."
James flopped down in a seat, "Ah, well. There's always next time."
"You keep up that positive attitude, James," Remus was clearly fighting a smile, "After all, you know what they always say – twenty-seventh times the charm."
James pulled his bag toward him with a scowl and began rummaging in it for his homework, "I hate you both." For some reason, all three of his friends seemed to find this response hilarious. James decided to take a leaf out of Lily's book, and ignored him as he started on his transfiguration essay. Someday- someday he'd convince Lily to go out with him, and his friends would see who was laughing then.
Short, but hopefully fun.
