Chapter Forty-Seven: Snatched
It was 9:30 in the morning at the Ootori manor and for some odd reason, Alexi was wide awake. For all intents and purposes, the female host should still be sound asleep. If not because of her late night the night before, then because of her natural tendencies to sleep in until noon whenever possible. While it was killing her that Heavenly Savior was still under reconstruction, meaning she couldn't help out at the parish on the weekends anymore, at least the strawberry blonde could attend a later Mass, rather than having to open the church at six in the morning for a seven AM Mass.
Knowing full well that she was going to attend the one PM Mass at a neighboring church, she couldn't even explain it herself why she was up so early. Nevertheless, here Alexi was, having woken up about a half hour ago and on her computer since. She was engrossed in her laptop, rather like her antagonist, but for the first time since she left America, the female host was not writing about an event that happened to her with Wren, at her church, with her family, etc. Instead, she was writing about the fashion show she had just gone to. This act in itself was a major step in the right direction. Wren knew this as well as Alexi did, but the strawberry blonde would only spend her time writing about an event if she felt extremely happy about it and she didn't want to ever forget it. It's true that the female host has had several interesting adventures since she joined the host club, but there was something different about going with Kaoru to the fashion show. It felt like a normal outing for her, even though it was extraordinary. Not being able to explain why she was feeling so at ease that morning, whether because she honestly had no clue that Kaoru and even Kyouya were slowly becoming important figures in her life or because she didn't want to admit it to herself, the results were still the same. Alexi was beginning to recognize Japan as her home now.
Finally, typing the finishing touches to her twenty plus page essay of the evening, she went to the cutout window seat and stared at the birds in a nearby tree. Humming 'A Spoonful of Sugar' as she watched a little bird building its nest right by her window, the girl felt like a child who was getting caught up in the simple little miracles of life. Her old psychology teacher in America once described an optimist as 'a person who spends their life singing Disney songs' and Alexi's current attitude reflected such a description. It was such a beautiful morning, she had such a beautiful night last night; in short, everything seemed to be wonderful with the world.
Jolting her from her serene thoughts, she noticed from where she sat that Kyouya was sending Tachibana to get the limo, as he waited on the front steps of the manor. 'Now where on earth could he be going this early on a Sunday morning?' She thought as she glanced at her piano wrist watch, 'that guy is even worse with mornings than I am and there's no way he'd be going to a legit business meeting today.' Channeling the Disney character Alice, curiosity was building up inside of her and Alexi called for Rutsubo to tell her to order a car for the girl ASAP.
Luckily, the delay in her car pulling in front of the Ootori manor to pick her up gave her the perfect amount of time to let her driver know to follow Kyouya's car. The elderly driver was about to protest to the directions when Alexi lied and told him, "I was supposed to go with Kyouya this morning on this errand, but I overslept and he left without me". Not truly believing the girl's story, but not wanting to chance the fact that she was right and Kyouya actually needed her for whatever he was doing, the chauffeur drove the smaller town car after Tachibana with no hesitation.
A few minutes later, both the driver and the passenger of the second car were surprised when they saw the young Ootori get out at the tiny park in the town square and usher Tachibana to leave him alone at the location. Again, luckily for Alexi, her driver was at a stop light when they noticed Kyouya get out of the car, so she hastily informed him that she would get out there and walk over to meet the bespeckled boy on her own. When his blue eyed passenger said that, the chauffeur realized that his initial instinct, about her lying about following his master because she was supposed to be with him, was correct. 'Please don't let him know I dropped Michelle-san off here' the poor man prayed for his job as he turned the corner in the opposite direction of Kyouya's attention and sped off back to the manor.
Because the light hadn't changed yet, Alexi was still on the corner across from the park when she noticed a familiar limo pull up to the same park entrance that Kyouya was standing in front of. She was utterly shocked when she saw Kaoru of all people getting out of the car and ushering his driver to leave him alone as well. Alexi was fuming at the fact that the two of them were meeting without her, because they were undoubtedly there to discuss her.
'Those jerks! I thought we made it crystal clear at the very beginning that we'll share all information together! What the hell are they doing here without me?' she thought before a black SUV sped up and screeched to a halt next to her best friend. She watched in horror as two suit wearing goons grabbed the young redhead, shoved a cloth to his face, dragged his then limp body into the vehicle, and then sped off all in under 30 seconds.
Before Kyouya, who was still standing at the gate to the park, had time to react to the event that just happened in front of him, another car screeched to a halt in front of him. This time it was a silver convertible and to his astonishment, he recognized the driver. "A...Alexi?!" He questioned, completely in shock at everything that had just happened.
"C'mon, get in!" she barked at him as she unlocked the doors. The split second his butt touched the leather seat, she gunned the car in a mad pursuit to catch up with the quickly disappearing black SUV.
"What the hell is going on? Where'd you get this car? Watch out for the light!" The normally calm and sedated raven haired boy spouted out in a fury as he grasped the dashboard in front of him in a vain attempt to stabilize himself.
"First of all, I should be asking you what the hell is going on, Mister. I mean why'd you schedule a meeting with Kaoru without me?" she shouted as she drove with such a focused intensity that it was clear to Kyouya this was not her first time perusing a car.
Completely ignoring his friend's question, he re-asked one of his, "Where did you get this car? It's definitely not one of my family's".
"Um, well," she sputtered as she made a sharp u-turn to follow the car that thought it lost her on that last obstacle. "Maybe I picked up a couple of bad habits from the kids I hung out with at the embassies. I mean all those kids had diplomatic immunity so, well… Let's just say that we'll need to wipe the car down afterwards and leave a really nice apology note".
Now not knowing whether to be more afraid of the reckless driving maneuvers Alexi was doing, that they were pursuing a car full of people that had just kidnapped Kaoru, or to be afraid of the fact that he was apparently in a hot car, Kyouya's face turned white as he said, "You mean you stole this car?!"
"Well, I'd say I borrowed it via hot-wiring, but tomato tohmato", she said with a half smirk as she slowed down when the black SUV turned into a warehouse area of town.
Seeing that the bespeckled boy was about to call someone, her guess was the police, the strawberry blonde reached for the phone, snatched it, and put it in the cigarette dispenser in her door. "Unless you want to be arrested for being in a stolen car, let's wait till we get to their destination before we call the police, deal?" she said as they made another turn in the seemingly endless maze of storage corridors.
Finally, after ten minutes of turning, circling, and back tracking, the SUV came to a stop in front of a particularly large storage building, causing the car in pursuit to stop around the corner and watch what was about to happen to their friend still inside.
"I don't think they realized they didn't lose us. Good," the female host said as she stealthily got out of the convertible and peered around the corner.
"I wouldn't be too sure about that, Michelle," Kyouya said.
"What the hell are you talking abo-" the girl said as she whipped her head around to face her companion. Seeing that the raven haired boy was sitting with his hands up as a .44 was trained onto his back, Alexi scanned the scene to realize that there were three more suited men and one woman, all with their guns trained on her. "Shit" she muttered as she slowly raised her hands.
As soon as the two teens were checked for any weapons or electronics, one of the men shouted "clear" and the rest ushered their captives inside the large building ahead. When they entered through the doors, they were met with a stark and darkened interior, an area that didn't seem to have any furniture in it. As she was herded into the building, Alexi quickly calculated if there was any chance of escaping the current situation. 'Ok, so there are five people that I can see with guns, but they didn't handcuff us or restrain us. If I see an opening, should I try to knock a gun out of someone's hand and take it for myself? Should I bolt if I get the chance or try to wait until Kyouya, Kaoru, and I can escape together?' she thought in the time span of a few seconds.
Her calculating thoughts were interrupted when the smooth familiar voice of Kyouya hissed at her, "See; this is why I should've called Tachibana when we pulled into this area of town, but no, you just had to steal my phone. You stupidit-" the clearly pissed host said before he was interrupted by a man in a professional two piece suit.
"This entire section of town is a dead zone for any electronics that are not government issued, so there's no need to place the blame on your friend Mr. Ootori," the man calmly and soothingly said.
The man was about 6"2' with grayish blue eyes and dark brown short hair. He had a fit physique and his black suit was perfectly ironed and tailored to his shape. He had an ivory shirt on, a purple tie that was held in place by a silver tie clip, a real Rolex watch on his left hand (Kyouya recognized it was not a knock-off), and his black shoes were impeccably shined. However, the one item that caught Alexi's attention quicker than any other accessory, was the gun that was holstered on his right hip. When he mentioned Kyouya's name, both teens looked at each other and realized that this situation was worse than they originally thought. However, the following statement that came out of the suited man's mouth scared them more than anything else.
"While we were not expecting to run into you until much later, it's a pleasure to finally meet you Ms. Zawojek".
