Hijikata could feel the warmth of the morning rays mold his polo and slacks into a comfortable blanket. A cluster of seagulls and other birds waddled about on the boardwalk just in front of him. More of their avian comrades circles the skies above the shoreline. Only a brisk walk away, the growing buzz of the outdoor cafeteria beckoned him over with delicious aromas and gentle conversation.

Yet he remained on the bench, with hard-cased smart phone in hand and enough patience for his beautiful companion to arrive. He glanced at his phone again, pondering the message to be sent; Not for her, but another. He'd become a lot more relaxed here, enough so he considered sending such a tease. The stoic visage remained as he pressed the send button… but he didn't have to wait long. His phone flickered, and soon his fingers left for war.
