Woot woot! Here we go! :D
-Chapter 106: High Ground 3-
Julie-Su sat Sonic down in her living room and went over the various dream symbols he experienced. Rouge took up her favourite swinging basket chair and listened on. Sonic sat on the beanbag and spoke to Jules in the armchair. When he finished, "Two things stand out to me," Jules began, "First one, Zooey being there. She's not part of the Lightening Bolts, is she? I don't think I met her, or saw her on the roster."
Sonic shook his head. "No. I actually haven't seen her in years. Tails said she was going to school up north."
"Second thing, your house had no water underneath?"
He nodded.
"No windows either?"
"You got it."
Jules thought on it. "Your house is a familiar place, one you know down to the letter. For it to be invaded, look so foreign and become inaccessible, concerns me. I can't say it's any old nightmare because everything Chaos told me has been accurate; to a point they knew about Rolph's ability. Is Amy safe in the house, is what I'm wondering now."
Rouge contributed, "Orbot may have told Shadow to move Amy, darling. His wording wasn't particularly clear, but he mentioned a mountainside location for a new cafe, with a view. Shadow said he'd scout the area and see if there was anything up there. He's still gone to meet our other comrades; I haven't heard back yet, dear."
Julie-Su folded her arms, "That settles it, we should move Amy. If there's a chance Dr. Eggman is doing something out in the ocean that'll have a coastal impact, your house is on the front line."
Sonic nodded again. "I'll move her myself when the sun goes down, to avoid being seen. If I get help from you guys, Eggman might try to frame it badly. He already tried to turn the twins against us, Rolph told me."
Jules held up a hand to pause him, "Are we able to contact this Zooey person?"
"Probably." Sonic messaged Tails back and forth for a few seconds. "...uh, well then. Hasn't spoken to her since last year either? This is gonna be awkward, bro, but you gotta find out if she's with the Bolts," Sonic spoke as he messaged his friend and teammate. Sonic clicked his tongue, "Girl drama."
"Ahh, young love," Rouge said quietly and fondly recalled some of her own.
Tails called Sonic only moments later, 'Are you secure?' his voice was frantic.
"Yes, what's up?"
'I don't know. Zooey messaged me with 'BG accepted a liquid robot from Eggman, it changed her. I followed her, to make sure she's okay. She's gained super strength. Her eyes are red. I'm scared.' I bet he's using my broadcasting network in conjunction with these robots to spy on us. Now he's giving it to the town's people. Soon, we're not going to be safe anywhere or know who we can trust, for that matter.'
"You said these scramblers scramble it all out, right?"
'Correct; we're good for now, only until Eggman figures out what we know. This line we're on isn't safe for much longer. Once Eggman realises I've got all our safe houses secured, he's going to check the towers. I'll end transmission now. I'll come over as soon as I can. I have a couple things to take care of first.'
Knuckles came in from outside, "Guys, you should see this. The tide's gone out really far."
'What?' Tails asked.
Sonic and everyone went outside.
The ocean had pulled back far. An exposed stretch of coral in the distance stuck out of the water a few inches.
The group was once again graced with Sonic's werehog presence in midday. Hastily, he hit his communicator and a siren blared in town. A loudspeaker system alerted the town to the plight of an oncoming tsunami. Everyone knew what it meant and acted accordingly, gathered a few small things and headed for the mountain.
Sonic tried his best to catch a breath as he took a knee as his fear of a wall if water overtook him. His teammates went to his side to aid him in any way they could.
At Eggman's lair, the doctor hit his fist on the edge of his console. "How did they manage to see my next move? I didn't think we took on so much water."
Orbot looked at a tablet screen in his hand. "It looks like the swell happened at the same time the tide was about to come back in. It's created a sort of 'mega tsunami'. It's on the small side as far a mega tsunami goes, but it's going to wipe the town offthe map."
"How tall of a wave are we talking?"
"About twenty feet, by my calculations."
Eggman thought hard and tapped a thoughtful finger against his chin. "Instead of using the hydraulics, why not use the already displaced water? We'd lessen the blow on the town, which, I actually need to not be totally washed away by this event."
Orbot recalculated the parameters. "We would decrease the wave by eighty percent and overall damage by thirty percent."
Eggman looked at his wrist communicator. "Fine. We cut our losses. I was hoping launch would be for a bigger audience too. Time to make concessions." Eggman initiated launch with the control on his personal communicator.
Down in the kitchen, Rolph reeled from the drug he'd been tasked with enduring and maintaining. Anne had left him with laced food he had hidden in a nearby drawer. Applesauce and yogurt respectively. "What's the ruckus?" he said and lifted his head from the kitchen table. He was unable(unwilling) to move or do much after the other three propped him up in his original spot. 'That robo guy...he was so scared...' Rolph pulled himself to his feet. 'I wanna talk to him. Maybe sneak a peak at who he is.' Rolph lumbered back down the hall with heavy, swaying limbs.
Before he made it to the small lab on the main floor, the whole building shook. Rolph was brought to the ground and up against a wall on and angle. "Are we moving?! Sinking?! What the hell is going on?!" He saw the door of the lab was left open and the light on. He made his way to the roboticized prisoner.
Outside was quite a sight. Eggman's fortress lifted into the air. The mountain it once sat on hung on and followed in flight. Eggman's liquid robots that his bidding had incorporated the mountain into their final structure. Thrusters and vents lined the sides and steadied the mega structure as the lair took to the sky. It was a power hungry machine that took up all the energy the various crystals Eggman had wired into his system; with them, the fergosi sapphire shard Tails had unwittingly brought to fix the town's grid.
Back at Sonic's, the water had already begun to rush in. It was slow at first but a larger swell could be seen on the horizon. His floor had a thin layer of sea water. "Come on, Ames, we gotta get you out of here. Please, don't wake up in the middle of all this," Sonic calmly said as he picked up his partner in her chair with his large clawed hands.
Julie-Su closed the door behind them. "Aren't you going to take anything else?"
Sonic shook his head. "I want to be out of here before the water rises."
Suddenly, the ground shook and everyone nearly lost their footing. Sonic held onto Amy as he retained his footing. "What now?! "
Out in a nearby baseball field, in the front row of the stands, Zooey sat with the other younger members of the Lightening Bolts. On the field, BG tossed a ball up and down a few times. She yelled from a safe distance. "I'm gonna try and get it over the mountain." She threw the ball up and smacked it as hard as she could. The bat and ball both busted into splinters and string upon contact. The group of friends cheered her on. "Knew I should have taken a metal bat." She tossed the ravaged bat into the pile with the others she's bent, broke or totally obliterated.
BG took a metal bat and the final ball in the basket they bought. "Last one. Let's try to get this one over the mountainthis time." With her final ball, she cracked it off the bat and sent it careening into the bright blue sky.
Her friends cheered her on as she took a victory lap around the bases.
She went top speed and slid into home. As she skid, the ground rumbled and shook. "Woah, didn't mean for that to happen. Wait, was that caused by me?" She looked up to her friends who held their own against the tremors.
BG looked beyond her friends and went wide eyed at the soaring doctor's fortress that loomed in the distance.
Lol, crazy Eggman XD
