Chapter Thirty – Battle with Bongo Bongo

I was informed today about the problems coming from the Gerudo desert. I sent Sheik out to scout the area and see what was going on. I just hope Link will finish the Haunted Temple Adventure soon so he can get back on the mission to save all of Hyrule. I'll have to figure out a way to get a message to Link so he will join Sheik, but I'll figure something out later. It's getting late and the air is starting to get really cold. I'm also getting tired of picking up my diary after this sandstorm keeps blowing it out of my hands.

Fear quickly filled Link's eyes as the redead began waking up and moving towards him. He wasn't sure what to do and slowly began to move away from the screaming chest, but as he did he tripped over something on the floor and fell to the ground. Looking at where he tripped he was surprised to see nothing there. Suddenly all the redead around him began getting sliced in two and falling to the ground dead. Taking out the lens of truth he was shocked to see a switch was on the floor that activated two giant grim reapers that were each holding a scythe and were now spinning around in a circle killing all the redead that drew near. Purple and black liquid came out of the redead when they got cut in two, which was different than the ones he faced earlier, which had red blood in them.

Once all the redead were killed he kicked the switch again and the giant reapers slowly spun to a stop. Getting back up, he made sure to avoid walking into the blades as he made his way across the room once again. Now that all the redead were sliced in two and unable to do anything his fear was completely gone and he was able to relax a bit, so he headed over to the door and found it was unlocked the entire time. With frustration of what he just put himself through he opened the door and went through.

In the next room there was a long narrow path that had dropped into an endless void on both sides, and giant fans were mounted on both walls. At the far side of the path was a door, but in order to reach it he had to balance all the way across while the fans blew strong currents of air to knock him off. Each of the fans seemed to alternate turning on and off, so the wind kept causing him to lose his balance, which caused him to keep backing out from trying to cross.

Just as he was starting to think he would never get across all the fans shut off at the same time. Taking his chance he took off as quickly as he could while maintaining his balance. He was almost to the door when all the fans burst back to life and he was knocked off the path with intense force. He flew towards a solid wall, and he knew once he hit it he would drop down into the endless void below, but instead of hitting the wall he passed through it and crashed into a door that was hidden behind a fake wall.

Getting up he opened the door and found himself in an area with a ladder that was mounted to the wall, but was too high to reach, and there was a giant heavy block near it that he was able to move close enough so he could climb up and jump over to the ladder. Once at the top he noticed a very large ship floating in an empty void next to where he was. There didn't seem to be anywhere else to go in that room, so he climbed onto the ship to look around.

There didn't seem to be anyone on the ship, but once he reached the middle of the deck he suddenly he noticed movement all around him. Looking around he was terrified as he realized the movement wasn't from people walking around, but instead from skeletons all over the ship. They were moving around the ship very quickly as they continued to work, and none of them seemed to notice Link was even there. Right next to him were some barrels that were stacked next to the mast, so he hid behind them so no one would see him. At that moment the captain of the ship appeared on the upper deck and began barking orders to the rest of the crew. The captain didn't look like a pirate, but instead looked like a king. He was dressed in a royal outfit and wearing a gold crown. It was at that moment he realized the crew didn't look like pirates either, but instead they were dressed like soldiers ready for war.

"We're approaching the enemy." The captain bellowed. "Most of your lives will be ended here today, but as long as you die to expand my kingdom, your short pathetic lives will have had some meaning. I will conquer all surrounding lands until the entire world bows down to my rule!"

"Storms brewing ahead!" a skeleton soldier that was standing next to the captain bellowed. "Look lively, for today you all will go down fighting!"

"Captain, we shouldn't be fighting these people." One of the soldiers near where Link was hiding said with a scared tone. "These people are our allies."

"Throw that man overboard!" the captain said with an evil glare in his eyes. "I won't allow weak blood to be aboard my ship!"

Some skeleton soldiers that were close by grabbed the soldier that spoke out against the captain and they threw him off the ship without a second thought. Seeing how ruthless they were made Link fear what they might do to him if they noticed he was there.

"Now get back to work!" the captain shouted. "Today my kingdom will grow stronger than ever before."

The crew seemed to be hesitant about following the orders given, but despite their doubts they continued to work to avoid being thrown overboard as well. Link looked out into the distance to see where they were going, but all he could see was darkness. They appeared to be sailing in a black void with nothing around them. There was no water or sky, but the ship seemed to be moving as if it were moving through rough waters.

"And who might you be, boy?" the captain said as he glared down at Link. "I don't tolerate stowaways aboard my ship. You will pay dearly for this mistake with your life."

Suddenly the ship shook violently as if they were hit by something, and large parts of the ship were ripped apart. "Captain the ship is sinking!" one of the soldiers shouted. "We need to abandon ship!"

"I give the orders here!" the captain shouted. "Throw this stowaway overboard and keep perusing the enemy. I forbid this ship to sink!"

Two skeleton soldiers approached Link and pulled him from his hiding place and dragged him over to the side of the ship. Looking down into the endless void he closed his eyes and felt himself being launched into the air, then quickly began falling into the nothingness. Panic began to take hold, but he soon felt like he wasn't falling. Opening his eyes he noticed he only fell a few feet to a small area of land that the ship was passing by. Getting up he looked around and realized he was back inside the temple, but as he turned back to look at the ship he noticed it was drifting deeper and deeper into nothingness while large chunks of the ship were being blasted away by some invisible enemy until there was nothing left.

Turning back to the area he was standing in, he noticed the piece of land he was on led to a large door. It was the only path available to him, as everything everywhere else in the room was a void to nothingness, so he went through the door and hoped this entire nightmare was almost over.

Upon entering the next room he noticed it was a small circular room with no other door leading out. On the floor in the middle of the room was a large circular hole that dropped into darkness, but he had no interest entering anymore mysterious dark holes. He almost walked right off the edge and would have fallen into the hole, but he managed to see it just in time and stopped himself. Turning back around he opened the door to go back out, but realized there wasn't a way out that way either. It seemed his only option to get out of there was to jump down the hole and see where it would bring him. With a sigh of defeat he jumped down the hole and began falling into darkness once again. He fell for a very long time before he hit something solid, but it seemed to catch him softly, and then bounced him back up with a sound as if hitting a drum. The sound reverberated through a very large cavern he was now in, and he was getting a very uneasy feeling while standing there looking around as if something was watching him from the darkness.

From the darkness there was suddenly movement to his right, and as he looked he was surprised to see a floating hand. A moment later there was movement to his left and another floating hand flew over, and once together they began banging on the ground which sent reverberations throughout the entire area and the sound of banging echoed off all the walls. Link lost his balance from the banging and was shifted all the way to the edge. Looking over the edge he realized he was really high up and what he was standing on was in fact a giant drum.

With a loud bang on the drum from the hands he was knocked over the edge. Grabbing the edge as quickly as possible, he began struggling to climb back up as the hands stopped banging and flew over to where he was. One of the hands positioned itself over him and at the last moment Link managed to pull himself up and roll out of the way just as the hand smashed down where he was. The other hand was already moving into position for an attack as it began to move as if it were a sword and swung into Links chest and sent him flying across the drum. Getting back up he noticed he was almost knocked off the edge once again.

The hands flew back together and began banging on the drum which sent vibrations throughout the ground once again. He was struggling to avoid falling off the edge, so he began rolling across the drum in hopes he would be safer in the center, but the hands stopped banging and once again flew over to where he was and each hand dropped down on each side of him and began quickly moving towards him to smash him between them.

Link quickly drew the master sword and plunged it deep into one of the hands and suddenly sparks began to shoot out from it. The other hand instantly stopped moving and the two hands floated just inches away from touching him. As he drew his sword back both hands flew high into the air and began spinning around in a circle really fast, then dropped down and hit the drum really hard. Link was sent flying so high into the air he was almost able to touch the ceiling of the room he was in. The hands were moving around the room completely out of control as he crashed back to the ground. The hands kept moving really close to where he was falling from, and he was almost hit multiple times as they flew past.

As he climbed back to his feet he was sure the hands were going to attack again, but to his surprise they had moved far away from the drum, and back up in the air where they continued to spin around a glowing red light. He wasn't sure if the light had always been there and he just didn't notice it, or if it just suddenly appeared, but when it started moving around the room the hands began to follow. Taking out the lens of truth he was horrified to see a giant monster hanging upside down from the ceiling. The creature was completely black, which made it hard to see even with the lens, and it seemed to glide across the ceiling as if it were flying. The red light was actually a giant eye on the head of the creature, and the hands didn't seem to attach to the body, but instead just floated near it.

Without warning the creature dropped all the way down to the drum, but continued to float just above the ground and made no reverberation. It then began to glide just above the drum as it moved towards him gaining speed as it went. The hands continued to move around the main body uncontrollably, and as the creature drew close, one of the hands knocked Link to the ground which prevented him from being knocked off the drum as the creature flew over his head.

Getting back up he held the master sword as tight as possible and positioned himself for the creature's next attack. As it drew near once again He managed to dodge the hands as they flew around and stabbed the master sword deep into the glowing eye of the creature. The speed the creature was traveling at knocked Link to the ground, but the master sword was jammed in the eye where sparks were now shooting from. The creature was now moving with odd jerking motions as if it lost all control of its body. As it moved around the room Link braced himself for whatever kind of attack it was about to unleash. He was having trouble looking through the lens while trying to fight, but so far it seemed he was winning, even if he was getting knocked around a lot. The creature suddenly flew back up to the ceiling, but as it did, it appeared to be unable to distinguish the correct distance it needed to travel and crashed hard into the ceiling. The creature fell back towards the drum along with many large sharp rocks, and as it hit the drum Link was launched high into the air as the rest of the rocks that were following behind it came crashing down. He wasn't sure how he to managed to miss getting hit by the rocks, but as he began to drop back down he realized the rocks had sliced many holes in the top of the drum and if he wasn't careful he could fall through one of the holes and land on the sharp rocks. One of the creature's hands was motionless on top of the drum near one of the many holes, and the other seemed to be missing. It was impossible to know where the body landed since he wasn't able to look through the lens at that moment.

As he dropped back towards the drum he tried to angle himself to land on one of the larger areas that wasn't ripped up, but just before he was able to land on the drum the body of the creature began to flicker in and out of existence where it crashed into the drum and was no longer moving, and he was about to hit where it kept appearing. He hit the invisible creature hard and had the wind knocked out of him. As he was gasping for air he felt his body slipping and he realized he was sliding down towards a large hole in the drum where the large sharp rocks were waiting at the bottom.

While he was sliding down he noticed sparks appearing from nowhere and realized they were coming from the side of the creature, and then he spotted his sword. He tried to position himself to slide towards it, but he was still too far away, and his time was running out before he would completely fall off the creature and into the hole below. With all his strength he pushed himself off the creature and dove for his sword. He stretched out his arm as far as possible and grabbed onto the hilt of the sword, but the sword didn't remain in place as he hoped it would, and as the sword came free he continued to fall towards the rocks below.

Franticly reaching for anything he managed to grab some of the torn cloth that was hanging from the drum, but he wasn't able to do anything because the creature's body seemed to be in his way of climbing back up. With no way out of the situation he could only think on one solution. Using his sword he sliced the fabric as he was holding onto in hopes it would swing him over to a part of the drum he would be able to climb up from, but suddenly the rip didn't stop where he thought it would and the weight from the creature continued to tear the fabric the rest of the way as it fell into the drum and crashed hard onto the sharp rocks below. Link swung back and forth for a few moments, and when he finally came to a stop he put his sword away and began climbing up to the top of the drum, but just before he could reach the top the fabric ripped apart and he fell into the drum and crashed onto the creatures destroyed body below and was knocked out.

A few minutes after the fight with Bongo Bongo ended Impa showed up and noticed the mess Link managed to make. As she peered into the destroyed drum she was surprised to see Link was still breathing. The final boss for the festival had been completely destroyed and so many volunteers were killed while he was making his way through, and they were going to have to cancel the festival for anyone else that year. She retrieved Link from the mess and carried him back to town.

"I don't know how you managed to cause so much trouble." Impa said to Link while she was carrying his unconscious body out of the temple. "I thought you died years ago, but somehow you're still alive. It seems the princess is still trying to proceed with her plan. I'm sorry I won't be able to explain any of this to you when you wake up, but I'll find you again once I return with the princess. For now I'm going to leave you with a sweet woman here in town that's been known for taking people in. Hopefully you won't get the death penalty for your crimes today, but only time will tell."
