REWRITE: STAR WARS - EPISODE VII - THE DARK RESURGENCE

The present fanfic is a rewrite of the first film in the sequel trilogy. This is essentially the result of a writing exercise to rethink and fix a story that has several inconsistencies and is lacking in character development. Some characters and locations are preserved, others are abandoned. Key scenes in the film tend to be preserved as well.

32. Chapter 31

Countless First Order TIE fighters are scrambled from the star destroyer, and all its guns start firing on the Falcon. Immediately it is hit with a turbolaser bolt that its shields barely withstand.

Chewie growls warily.

"No, it's not the craziest situation I've escaped from!" says Poe to Chewie as he manipulates the Falcon's controls with expertise, "but it doesn't make me feel great about our odds."

The Falcon spins as it shoots three of the incoming TIEs. Chewie shoots furiously from the quad cannon. He sees everything spinning madly as Poe takes high precision evasive stunts.

"They're using the tractor beam on the pod!" says Han over the intercom. "Forget about us, Poe. Put a tracker behind the destroyer's radar! If it's anything like the old destroyers it won't detect it there."

"You crazy?" shouts poe, flashes of green blaster fire reflecting on his face from the dogfight. "They'll shoot us into a million pieces."

"Just shut up and do it!" shouts Han.

Poe sees a TIE coming right at him. In a split second move with the Falcon's Joystick, he turns the ship away with a roll and the TIE fighter in the front crashes with one coming from the side. Chewie growls in terror.

"I know what I'm doing, fur ball!"

Chewie replies angrily.

"I'm sorry if I don't fly in a straight line!" shouts Poe sarcastically, "Just keep shooting! You'll hit one of them eventually."

The Falcon is now closing in on Hux's flagship. The anti-fighter cannons are blazing with repeated bolts of superheated plasma. The falcon is hit twice on the shields and a third one explodes right nexto to the gunner's cockpit, where Chewie shoots the quad cannon. The glass above the wookie cracks as it begins to depressurise. Chewie grabs his arm in pain as it was hit by debris from the explosion.

"We're almost there!" shouts Poe.

The intensity of the incoming fire starts catching up to the Falcon, shooting a part of its engines and blowing up part of its west wing to bits, creating a gaping hole. Poe sees the back of the ship's radar; his left thumb hovering the button to launch the tracking beacon and right hand on the hyperdrive lever.

"AAAAAAAAAHHH"

The button is pushed at the same time as the lever is brought down. The Falcon jumps into hyperspace with heavy damage to its hull, but a torpedo is fired. The tracking beacon lands safely behind the Finalizer's radar dish.
