Chapter 30
Something about introducing a new character makes me more eager to write, it's like getting to know a new person. I really like Daiyu so far and I know the 'the ocean eyes' cliché is a thing and even a song, but it just really… fitted XD
Thanks for all the reviews as always and also, I'd like to say if you're a person who has been following my story for a while but has never reviewed, feel free! It always feels kinda odd knowing people are there but never hearing from them.

Four days of flying. Even for Daiyu, the thill had worn off. They had to stop every few hours so that Appa could rest, which meant they could stretch their legs.
For Joy, this was like a recurring nightmare. The take offs and landings were worse than the hours of flying. Daiyu had fallen into a gloomy silence and it had started to rain slightly.
It was to everyone's relief when the decision was made to split up to search for the Earth King.
There was a town nearby where the group found a few eel hounds for hire. They split into groups; Ty Lee, Suki and Mai; Zuko, Sokka and Toph; Joy and Daiyu; and Aang, Katara and Jet on Appa.
"You sure a group of nonbenders can handle yourselves?" Teased Katara as the two Kyoshi warriors and the knife thrower mock-glared at the waterbender.
Joy and Daiyu looked at each other. Were they going to be safe? They couldn't exactly fight long-range like the benders.
As if sensing their misgivings, Sokka sauntered over and draped his arms over the girls' shoulders. "We SWORDbenders will be fine! We wield the ULTIMATE weapon!" he yelled, dramatically pulling out his space sword and waving it for effect.

Jet dangled his arms over the side of Appa's saddle. By the looks of Katara, he judged that she wasn't in any mood to talk to him yet. She was sad at the front, on Appa's head with Aang whose arm was around her.
What had he expected? For Katara to have never moved on, that she had always been waiting for him, in case he returned? She thought he was dead. It was natural for her to move on. Natural for her to choose the avatar over the boy who betrayed her.
Jet had a brain. He knew that they would never have a chance together. A small part of him still silently wished that he hadn't flooded that village. Things would have been different.
But now, he was sitting watching her and her new boyfriend, sat alone in the cold.
What had he expected?

The sun was just lowering down to reach the horizon, slightly obscured by the last of the trees. Now out of the forest, Mai, Suki and Ty Lee were exposed to the night view of The Great Divide. They couldn't cross without an eartbender. Katara's earlier teases about nonbenders rang in their minds.
They decided to set up camp and just work out their plans in the morning, whatever misgivings they had. Nothing prepared them for the thundering of the ground that shook them awake…
