The Past is Present
I don't own Digimon or Yu-Gi-Oh
"I can tell dad isn't gonna be happy about what happened today, especially after you nearly got burned alive rescuing Yugi with Tristan." Joey said as he and Daisuke walked towards their home together.
"Yeah, something tells me I'm going to be grounded for a long time." She replied, opening the door to their apartment and both noticed Hatori was sitting at the table holding an envelope in his hands. "We're home dad." She said making her father look up at her and Joey with a relieved smile.
"Thank goodness I was worried when the school called me and said you had left before the soccer game, and it didn't help when you called from the hospital either." He said as he brought his daughter into a tight hug.
"Sorry to worry you dad, but Yugi was in trouble. Bandit Keith somehow stole his puzzle and smashed it to pieces." Daisuke explained making her brother and father share a glare.
"Bandit Keith huh, that jerk who tried to hurt you back at Duelist Kingdom, if I was there, I'd have given him a butt whooping with a side of knuckle sandwiches." Joey said as he crossed his arms.
"Aw thank you Joey." Daisuke teasingly cooed ruffling his hair making him whine and swat her arms away.
"Cut it out ya messing up my hair!" he complained as he began messing with his hair trying to get it back to how he liked it as their father chuckled before he picked up the envelope.
"This came in the mail for you sweetie," he said, handing it to her and she blinked before opening the letter.
"Dear Daisuke Wheeler…politely invite you to special viewing…Domino Museum…Egyptian Exhibit…important for your future…" Daisuke muttered as she read over the letter. "Signed Ishizu Ishtar…"
"Who da heck is Ishizu?" Joey asked, raising an eyebrow as Hatori hummed to himself.
"I believe I met her once before…back in Egypt on a dig I was leading. She seemed to know an awful lot about what we were looking for. She even had a press conference just now to announce the exhibit, and invited Seto Kaiba tonight as well." He said.
"Something's fishy, it could be a trap." Joey said as his sister set down the letter.
"I doubt it. But I'm going to check it out all the same." She replied walking into her bedroom to change out of her dirty school uniform.
Later that evening, Daisuke stood outside the museum wearing a new outfit she had picked out. She wore black skinny jeans with a gold chain belt around her waist, black heeled boots, a dark red long sleeve silk top with gold cuffs she wore under a dark grey dress coat that she buttoned up and in her hand she held a dark grey handbag. "Alright I'm here, now where the heck is Kaiba?" She thought before hearing an engine and seeing a limo pull up. "Of course."
She turned and saw the driver of the limo step out and open the door and Kaiba stepped out. "Keep the engine running, I won't be long." He told the driver before noticing Daisuke and he raised an eyebrow. "Fancy running into you here Wheeler."
"Yeah, the woman in charge of the exhibit invited me." She replied, crossing her arms and looking at his new purple coat and the briefcase in his hand as she grinned. "So, Mr CEO, shall we?" She asked and he huffed walking past her to the entrance and she followed him inside.
Both saw Ishizu standing there with two men in suits standing behind her. "Welcome Seto Kaiba, Daisuke Wheeler, so glad you both could make it." She greeted with a smile.
"Where are the other guests?" Kaiba asked her.
"I said this was a private exhibition, you were the only two invited. It makes conducting business so much easier." She answered, still smiling at the two as two more men walked up behind them.
"We've locked all the entrances."
"Nobody is allowed in or out."
"It's only been a minute and I'm already bored. If you don't tell me what this is all about, I'm leaving now." Kaiba said, turning his back to Ishizu.
"Excuse us, we've had a string of thefts recently, and we have to be careful. You both may leave at any time, but I believe it's in your best interests to see what we have to offer."
"And how do you know what's best for us?" Daisuke questioned, crossing her arms and glaring at the woman who smiled and walked away.
"Please this way." She said and both shared a look and followed her down a corridor. "Oh, and you may tell your little friend he can come out of hiding now." She added without looking back, Daisuke's eyes widened slightly before she opened her handbag and Demi-Veemon stuck his head out.
"How did you know he was hiding there?" Kaiba asked, eyeing the woman suspiciously before looking down at Demi-Veemon who waved cutely at him.
"You could say I have a sixth sense for these kinds of things." She answered with a shrug. Daisuke and Kaiba shared a look before they walked past a few statues of old Egyptian Pharaohs. "Now then, do you two believe in destiny?"
"Does it matter?" Kaiba answered with an uncaring expression.
"Ancient Egyptians thought that the true path of one's life was predetermined because history repeats itself in a never ending circle throughout the ages, they may say it was not your choice to come here because it is destined the three of us would meet." Ishizu explained and Kaiba stopped walking with a glare aimed at the woman.
"Look, all that stuff may interest you, but I didn't come here for a lesson in Ancient Egyptian History 101. I came here because you said it would be worth my while, but it seems like you wasted my time. If there is a point to all this, get to it already I have a company to run. You said you had an exclusive offer for me. I know everything about Duel Monsters and there's no card in the game that can stop Exodia, quite the charade and tell me what's going on." He demanded.
"You offered him a super strong card?" Daisuke asked and she sighed, rubbing her forehead. "Why doesn't that surprise me?" she mumbled. "But he is right, nothing can stop Exoida."
"I'll explain it all in good time. Duel Monsters is based upon a several thousand-year-old game, it was played for Ancient Egyptians for power and was extremely dangerous." Ishizu explained.
"Who cares?" Kaiba asked and Daisuke elbowed him in the side roughly.
"Ya know if you stop interrupting, she'll get this over with a lot sooner." She told him with a frown.
"Thank you Daisuke, but it is quite alright. I do know Kaiba can be quite impatient." Ishizu said with a smile. "Now as you are aware your uncle Maximillion Pegasus revived the game for modern times, unbeknownst to most duelists, Pegasus created three powerful cards he never released to the public. It's no surprise he would keep the strongest ones for himself, follow me and I will reveal the reason I called you here tonight." She told them with a smile before she turned and walked off with both following her.
"This is getting spooky." Demi-Veemon said as he looked around as the three humans walked down flight after flight of stairs to the basement of the museum.
"Have no fear, there are no monsters down here." Ishizu reassured the Digimon with a kind smile. "Now I've secured the most precious artifacts down here. We've recovered stone carvings that depict the earliest game in Egypt. Behold the origin of Duel Monsters." Daisuke and Kaiba shared a look before walking ahead into the darkened room before Ishizu turned the lights on showing them both a large stone tablet and they both gasped.
"It can't be the carvings on this tablet look just like Duel Monster cards…" Kaiba said in disbelief.
"I see you've come to your senses." Ishizu said, walking towards them. "Furthermore, there's a theory that in ancient times these monsters were real. Egyptian sorcerers summoned these monsters to Earth to do their bidding, but they soon realised that the monsters couldn't be controlled, they destroyed countless villages and brought Earth to the brink of destruction. The citizens turned to the Pharaoh for help, though he could not permanently defeat the monsters, he used his magic to seal them away in stone tablets and brought peace to the world."
"But I'm assuming that's not how the story ends." Daisuke said, looking to Ishizu. "Let me guess someone found out how to control the monsters and use them for their own gains?"
"Indeed, they waged an all-out war against the Pharaoh using their army of monsters." Ishizu said as she walked over to another stone tablet. "This is the stone tablet I wish for you both to see, it's the reason I invited you both here." Both looked at her and walked over to the other tablet. "This one shows the Pharaoh in combat with his greatest opponent." She told them.
"Hey, doesn't that guy look like Yugi?" Demi-Veemon asked, looking at the carving of the Pharaoh as Kaiba's eyes widened.
"You're right, and that monster above him is the Dark Magician." Daisuke replied as Kaiba stared at the tablet in shock.
"And the sorcerer on the left challenging him is you Kaiba, if you have any doubts in your mind left, look at the monster he is using." Ishizu said.
"The Blue Eyes White Dragon." Daisuke and Kaiba said at the same time.
"These hieroglyphics read that the sorcerer marched into the Pharaoh's chambers and challenged him and his legion of loyal magicians to a legendary duel with the fate of the world at stake, the Pharaoh accepted the sorcerer's challenge and their epic battle began. Both opponents unleashed their most powerful monsters against each other, the sorcerer fighting to control the world and the Pharaoh and his loyal followers fighting to save it. And now in the present this same battle is repeating itself once again." Ishizu said.
"Impossible, this piece of rock has got to be a fake. There's no way this can be real." Kaiba said, clenching his fist tightly around the handle of his briefcase.
"If you won't trust my words then perhaps you will believe the events as they play out in front of you, which I can help you do with my Millennium Necklace." Ishizu said as the golden necklace around her neck began glowing brightly blinding Daisuke, Kaiba and Demi-Veemon. "Now open your minds and see into the past." She said as the light consumed them.
"Oh man I hate magic sometimes." Daisuke grumbled as she found herself floating off to the side of a giant stone room with Demi-Veemon floating beside her and both noticed Kaiba floating beside them.
"I hereby declare a challenge to the Pharaoh, by the rights of tradition duel me if you are not a coward." They heard a voice demand and Daisuke saw a figure who looked exactly like Seto only older and wearing Egyptian style clothing while holding a sceptre in his hand.
"Magic powers hear my cry, release the monster trapped inside." A group of cloaked men behind the Seto lookalike chanted as blue auras surrounded them as a stone tablet rose up in front of the sorcerer and the spirit of a monster appeared with a snarl.
"In the name of the Pharaoh I shall stop you traitor." The Sorcerer's opponent said as one of their stone tablets rose up and the Winged Dragon Guardian of the Fortress appeared. "I now banish you all to the Shadow Realm!" the opponent declared as his dragon destroyed the Sorcerer's monster causing the stone tablet of the monster to fall over and bolts of lightning rained down from the sky and struck several of the Sorcerer's men making them vanish as they screamed in agony.
"That doesn't look good." Daisy whispered before the sorcerer summoned La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp.
"Your La Jinn may be formidable, but do you not think I didn't come prepared; it is no match for the combined fury of my dragons." The opponent of the sorcerer said as another stone tablet rose up and the Fairy Dragon appeared besides the Guardian of the Fortress.
"Let two be one," the magicians behind the opponent chanted as both monsters glowed before fusing into a new dragon. "Arise Kaiser Dragon, and destroy La Jinn with your Blazing Inferno!" the opponent shouted and the dragon obliterated La Jinn with a blast of flame and the stone tablet of the genie fell over with more of the sorcerer's followers being banished to the Shadow Realm in a blast of lightning.
"You have not won yet Pharaoh, do you think one of your mere servants has enough magic to defeat me, I will crush them before your very eyes." The sorcerer said.
"That sorcerer is a big mouth losing chump, I can't be compared to him." Kaiba grumbled as Daisuke and Demi-Veemon shared a look.
"You should have finished me off when you had the chance, now Pharaoh I end this duel." The sorcerer said with a smirk as he held his hands up and two stone tablets rose up. "Awaken from your deep slumber to serve me one last time my most faithful beast." He chanted as the two monsters appeared out of their stone tablets, Battle Ox and Mystic Horseman but they both glowed turning into two orbs of light and fusing together and in a flash of light the Blue Eyes White Dragon stood in front of the sorcerer roaring loudly.
"The Blue Eyes White Dragon." Daisuke whispered, noticing the Pharaoh stand up in surprise.
"Please…please stop this fighting…Seto…please." A voice whispered and Daisuke turned to see a figure hiding behind a stone pillar with her face in her hands as the Blue Eyes White Dragon destroyed Kaiser Dragon and then wiped out the rest of the opponent's stone tablets and reduced him and the magicians behind him to ash as flames filled the room.
"I win!" the sorcerer shouted laughing with triumph as Daisuke saw the hidden figure turn and run away.
"Hey wait up!" Daisuke called as she tried to chase the woman only for her, Kaiba and Demi-Veemon to find themselves back in the museum with Ishizu and Daisuke fell to her knees.
"Now are you convinced Kaiba, as I said before history is repeating itself. It is not just coincidence Yugi is your greatest opponent, you two have battled in the ancient past. It was destiny that you and Yugi dueled, and it is destined that you two will battle again." Ishizu said.
"Thanks for the lecture, but I make my own destiny. And I do what I want to do." Kaiba told her picking up his briefcase and he began walking to the stairs.
"But Kaiba, I thought what you wanted were powerful monsters." Ishizu said, causing Kaiba to stop and look at her over his shoulder. "I told you of monsters more powerful than Exodia, what if I told you that they were in front of your eyes the whole time?" she asked.
"What do you mean?" Daisuke asked as she got to her feet before noticing three carvings at the top of the tablet. "Are those…"
"Yes, the three strongest beings of destruction. Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer the Sky Dragon and the Winged Dragon of Ra, control one and you can destroy a million armies. Control all three and the planet itself will quake in fear." Ishizu explained.
"And Pegasus turned them into cards, you lie. If Pegasus had those cards why didn't he use them in Duelist Kingdom?" Kaiba questioned.
"Because Pegasus feared the power of these Egyptian God Cards, you cannot fathom the magical energy contained within. Pegasus could not contain the power he had created; they threatened to overpower and destroy him." Ishizu answered.
"What happened to these cards then?" Daisuke asked her.
"Pegasus asked your father to give them to me for safekeeping." Ishizu answered simply. "He and I devised a way to hide the cards in secret locations, but they were discovered, I must find them and hide them once again." She explained.
"Who found the cards then?" Kaiba questioned.
"The Rare Hunters." Ishizu said.
"Who?" Demi-Veemon asked curiously.
"An underground sect of elite duelists. They rob and steal rare cards to sell on the black market for enormous profits, however they keep the strongest cards for themselves to make powerful decks that destroy all opposition. They operate in shadows, so they are nearly impossible to find, that is why I need your help Seto Kaiba to draw them out into the open. If you were to start a Duel Monsters tournament, your reputation would attract the greatest duelists in the world. This would be the greatest concentration of precious cards ever assembled in one location."
"So, it's a trap, to lure the Rare Hunters all to one place and to retrieve the Egyptian God cards." Daisuke said, crossing her arms. "How do you know this will work?" she questioned the woman.
"I have foreseen it; the Rare Hunters will not ignore such a tempting opportunity." She replied walking towards Kaiba. "Also, take this card with you." She handed him a card and his eyes widened.
"Obelisk the Tormentor, you said all the cards were stolen." He said.
"Not all of them, I managed to retrieve this one in time. You may borrow it for the tournament, but you will return it to me after." Ishizu said.
"It's not every day a rare card like this is given to me." Kaiba replied.
"You will return the card to me; I have foreseen it." Ishizu told him and he scoffed.
"Sure, whatever you say." He muttered, pocketing the card carefully before turning to Daisuke. "Come on, I'll give you a ride home." He said walking off and Daisuke nodded before she turned to Ishizu.
"You have questions?"
"Yeah…that woman I saw in the past. Who was she?" Daisuke asked softly as Demi-Veemon looked up at her in worry while Kaiba stood by the stairs looking back at her.
"A story for another time, I promise you Daisuke all will be revealed." Ishizu said softly and Daisuke looked at her before she nodded and walked off with Kaiba holding Demi-Veemon in her arms and soon Kaiba's limo pulled up outside Daisuke's apartment block.
"Thanks for the lift." She said with a small smile and Kaiba nodded. "I hope to see you in the tournament." She whispered before shutting the door and walking up to her apartment and she walked inside to find her brother asleep on the couch in front of the tv while Hatori was sitting at the table reading a book.
"So how did it go?" he asked softly.
"Alright I think…I learned a lot today." She answered before yawning. "I'm going to go to bed early." She added walking to her bedroom.
"Goodnight sweetheart." He said as he picked up Joey and carried him to his bedroom quietly while deep in thought. "I hope you didn't put my daughter in danger Ishizu…"
