"So you guys came here because you thought you could kill All Might, huh?" Todoroki straightened his back. "It looks to me that you were woefully unprepared."
What kind of crackpot villains would try to take down the Symbol of Peace with only a handful of street thugs? Even if they had one or two strong fighters it wouldn't be enough to defeat the man who'd climbed to the top of their super human society.
His gaze slid towards Kagome's slumped form. Sweat beaded her brow as her face became flushed from a fever. He was surprised she'd managed to hold out on her own for so long. Her endurance had never been all that great due to the side effects of her quirk.
Midoriya rushed to her side and lifted her onto her feet. The other teen carefully shifted her so that he could carry her as he walked.
The villains' interest interest in her was concerning. It was clear why they would want her. Most villains would have a vested interest in bringing her to their side. This one was just more determined than the rest.
"If you think we'll just let you take our classmate then you're sorely mistaken." Ice formed over his body in a show of intimidation.
He couldn't let them near her.
He made a promise once that he wouldn't go back on now. Regardless of how things ended up, he'd see that oath through to the end.
"Midoriya, I'm leaving her to you. Get them all back to the exit." His eyes focused on Shigaraki. "With All Might here the other teachers should be arriving soon enough. They've already made it apparent that both he and Kagome are their targets. In order to win this we need to keep them from getting both."
His classmate was silent for a long moment.
"But what about you Todoroki? You can't fight them all on your own. There's too many!" His concern was palpable.
So much so that it made him bristle a little.
"I can handle myself. Kagome on the other hand has already pushed herself beyond what she can handle. Take a good look at her," He drew attention to her slouched form. "She's already weak with fever. I'm surprised she even managed to hold out as long as she did. Especially after that injury she sustained a few weeks ago."
He wasn't a fool.
He'd seen the way she'd been favoring her side. Kagome wasn't the type of person who'd be honest when confronted directly. She never wanted anyone to worry about her, so she'd keep her personal life a complete secret. Still, he knew that she was bearing a heavier burden than she was letting on.
More times than he could count he'd found her trying to hide her injuries. It seemed that the last one had been more severe than usual.
Being Shinigami's daughter meant that she was fielding both villains and vigilantes. She was the target of their hatred and resentment. Some would want to recruit her while others would want to see her dead.
This group just so happened to be the former rather than the latter.
"Focus on what's important, Midoriya." He warned him, "Keep them safe."
Because right now he was the only one stopping this bastard from taking her.
A thin layer of ice formed over his right arm.
"If you want her that badly then come and take her."
The shell that'd encased Shigaraki's body broke apart.
Now the real fight would begin.
