Nightmares

Naruko was in her and Sasuke's bedroom, reading over one of the books Shikamaru had lent her to help her learn politics and the government system. Not wanting the village government to repeat any past mistakes, such as with herself and Sasuke, Naruko wanted the future generation to not suffer from unfair treatment and trauma due to an unfair justice system. It's one of the reasons why she was so happy and proud of Sakura for opening up a Children's Mental Health Clinic.

The sky outside had descended into night, leaving their room dark except for a single night light located on Naruko's side of the bed, where it sat on her dresser, casting light onto her book's pages. Lying in her lap resting was her raven-haired husband, burying his face into her stomach. Both of their eyes peeked at the door when they heard a stomping of feet heading their way, and someone threw their door open.

"Kaachan!" A little blur immediately ran over to her parent's bed, pale arms immediately scooping her and bringing her into their bed. As soon as Sasuke saw those glistening blue orbs overflowing with tears, his heart nearly stopped in his chest, and panic began to set in.

Closing her book, Naruko was profoundly concerned and was crushed by her sweet little sunflower sobbing her eyes out. "Sweetie, what's wrong? Did you have a nightmare? Did your chest start to hurt again?" If it was the last one, Naruko was transporting them to the hospital immediately.

Since Hinako's first attack, the Uchiha couple was struck with grief, informed that their sweet little sunshine had a rare medical condition. A condition that was seen only in children, and there was barely any information on how to cure it. Since then, Hinako would always have doctor appointments she must attend four days a week. Both Sasuke and Naruko were still on high alert, making sure Hinako didn't have another attack and that she took her medication as they waited for Sakura to find a way to fix Hinako's condition.

"I-I had a bad dream! W-W-Where Papa ignored me and h-had a family with S-Sakura-obachan a-and there was this m-man who looked like kaachan, but he was married to H-Hinata-obachan! I was so lonely and scared! Every time I tried calling out for help, no one heard me, and Papa kept ignoring me for his other family! Papa didn't need Hi-chan, Kaachan, Dai-chan, Ryu-chan, and Sa-chan anymore! H-He preferred his new family over us!" Cue a bawling five-year-old and two perplexed parents who were broken-hearted over Hinako's strange dream, especially Sasuke.

The married man of four felt as if someone had ripped out his heart and fed it to the dogs. It made him furious that a dream version of himself had caused his precious ray of sunshine to break down in tears. Sasuke adored it best when Hinako was happy and smiling without a care in the world. The girl was already suffering enough with her condition, and she didn't need any more stress weighing her down. Reaching over, regardless of how much his actions may have seen out of character, Sasuke kissed Hinako on her forehead. Watery big blue orbs looked up at her father, confused and flustered.

"I only have one family, and it's the one I made with your kaasan. What you saw was just a nightmare. Never will I ignore you for another family. You, your kaasan, and siblings are what is most important to me." Sitting on the bed's opposite side, a gentle hand patting Hinako's head, Naruko was quite surprised by Sasuke's blunt confession. Sasuke wasn't one to confess his feelings out loud, but given the situation, this was one of those times when their child needed to hear with their own ears how much their parents cherished them.

"What your Papa says is true, Hinako-chan! Besides, I think it is evident that your kaachan was born as a stunning kick-butt woman! The only family kaa-chan has is the one she made with your Papa! No other! Now try and get some sleep!" Kissing their sweet little girl on the forehead, Naruko hugged Hinako tight when their door opened. This time stepping through the door was Hinako's twin, Satsuki, who walked over to the bed to join her twin.

"Sa-chan!" Hinako seemed happy to see her twin after Sasuke picked up Satsuki and sat her on the bed. The little raven reached out towards her twin, holding Hinako's hand in a reassuring manner that made the blonde smile as they cuddled close together in between their parents. Smiling down at the bond those two shared, watching them close their eyes and fall asleep, Naruko pointed Sasuke with a concerned look.

"Sasuke, based on what Hinako described, doesn't it give you the feeling that she may have seen a parallel version of our lives?"

"Naruko, you're starting to sound like Sai." Sasuke returned Naruko's look with an impassive one of his own, causing his wife to feel annoyed with him.

"Teme, I'm serious! Don't you remember what we saw that time? It was visions of our parallel selves, and I think Hinako may have stumbled upon one of them!" Despite the hint of irritation she felt, Naruko kept her voice low, not wanting to wake the twins.

Sasuke recalled the moment his wife was talking about, as his eyes held a contemplative gaze, probing over the information given to him. "This could all be a coincidence, and Hinako just had a bad dream, but what you said holds a reasonable point. Let's discuss this tomorrow; it's way too late to be talking about parallel worlds where there was a chance you were born male and I somehow married Sakura."

Just the mere thought of it drained Sasuke of his energy. He was unable to picture his beautiful wife as a man, weirded out by the idea of him marrying the woman who he saw as a close, and annoying, sister figure. Pulling the covers over them, Sasuke prepared to get some sleep.

"The Sakura thing is not that shocking, though. I mean, it's like Kiba said once if I didn't end up with you then, of course, your second option would be Sakura-chan! No, I'm more curious about the thought of me being born a dude! I wonder if I'm still hot as a guy? Not shocking that I married Hinata! Oh, I wonder, did we name one of our kids Boruto? Hina-chan was obsessed with that name for some odd reason! I can so see you and Sakura-chan having a daughter! I bet she'd be nerd, but very cute, and a total badass! Oh, and..."

Sasuke wanted to rip the pillow from underneath him and slam it over his ears, tired of hearing Naruko's theories based on their so-called parallel lives. Not to mention, Sasuke hated picturing Naruko and the damn Hyuuga heiress together. Naruko was his wife, damnit!
