Alex's P.O.V
My phone rang and I, half-awake, answered it. "Hello?" I asked.
" Come down to the school, " I heard Rebekah demand. I looked at the clock on my nightstand.
"Rebekah it's 8:30 am," I told her.
" I know, but no one showed up, and Matt bailed. So get your ass down here, or I'll come there and get you myself, " She growled before hanging up the phone. I groaned and sat up before walking over to my closet, then changing out of my dress from last night. I then sped down to the high school.
~At the High School~
Still being very tired, I was walking around the cafeteria picking up plastic cups off the table then sticking them into a garbage bag while Rebekah took down the decorations. At least this took my mind off of Alaric. I don't handle grief well.
"Oh come on you can work faster than that!" Rebekah exclaimed to me as I tied up the trash bag in my hand.
"Oh, I'm sorry that I'm half awake right now because you woke me up to clean up some stupid high school dance!" I yelled at her. "Look I don't want to argue with you, so I'm going to go start on the gym." Then I walked into the hallway.
As I walked down the hall, I saw Alaric walk out into the hallway in front of me. What? "Alaric?" I asked in disbelief, and he looked at me with no spark of any sort of emotion in his eyes. "You're supposed to be dead."
"I am!" He exclaimed and shoved me to the locker with the white oak stake to my throat.
He raised it and was about to stab me when Rebekah rushed out of the cafeteria and pinned Alaric to the locker. We both stabbed him with the stake, expecting him to turn grey and veiny, but he didn't. We backed up and watched as Alaric took the stake out of his heart. We each looked at each other amazed, then sped away before he looked up at us again. But before I got far enough away from him, I heard a snap and fell to the floor.
There was something stuffed in my mouth. There was a pain in the center of each of my hands. I opened my eyes slowly and darted my tongue out to push whatever was in my mouth out, but screamed in pain the second my tongue touched the white cloth. And as I breathed in and out, I felt like someone was shoving needles up my nose. The noise was slightly muffled, and I went to move my hands but screamed again when something kept them still. I looked at my hands to see two wooden pencils stabbed threw them. I then realized I was sitting in a desk chair.
Looking up I saw Alaric resting his feet on the teacher's desk in front of him. He had a phone in his ear and gave me an evil smile. I listened to his call, " Whoever this is it's not funny, " I heard Elena's voice say. Oh, great. Why does she have to be my rescuer?
"Well, who else would it be?" Ric asked her. I looked at his desk and saw a million journals opened up. I tried to move my hands up the pencils so I could free them, but that's how I found out they were soaked in vervain and screamed a bit more before dropping my hands back on the desk.
" Ric? " Elena asked, shocked that he was alive. I looked around the classroom and saw two big tubes of water with both vervain and wolfsbane in them. The one with wolfsbane was filled with wooden pencils. Ok, so it's Wolfsbane, not vervain.
"Listen closely, I'm at the school, I have Caroline," I looked at Alaric again. I'm not Caroline. "And if you want to keep her alive, I need you to get in your car and come down here right away. If you tell anyone where you are going, I will kill her," Ric said and hung up the phone. Now I believe that last part.
Alaric swung his legs down from the desk and looked at the journals in front of him. "Your father was a very twisted man," He said to me and I struggled against the desk at the mention of my father. "I wouldn't do that. I shot you up wolfsbane and vervain before you woke up. You'll find you're a bit weaker than normal." Alaric stood up and walked towards me. "According to your father's journals, he took an iron poker to your leg once and carved out the word mistake on your right thigh hoping the cut might catch a disease and kill you." He took the cloth out of my mouth and moved to the containers of poison.
"Alaric please," I begged. "You don't have to do this. I'm your friend." Any ideas he got from my father's mind would open up old wounds that I patched up a long time ago. Afraid that he might torture me as my father did, or strap me to a table and burn my leg - I couldn't - I wouldn't go through that pain again. He came back towards me and placed the cloth in my mouth again. I screamed as he tightens it around my head. He stopped talking and looked towards the classroom door.
"Right on time," Alaric said. I heard footsteps coming down the hallway and saw Elena appear at the door. Alaric was now sitting at his desk facing Elena. She looks surprised to see me and not Caroline.
"Where's Caroline?" Elena asked.
"Not here," Alaric answered. "I just said that so you'd come to the school."
Elena looked back at me and the pencils in my hands. "Let her go, Alaric!" Elena commanded, and he pointed to me.
"Free her yourself," He said, and they stared at each other for a moment.
Then, Elena cautiously walked over to me. She bends down and looks at me reassuringly, and I nodded towards the pencils. Elena starts to pull a pencil out of my right hand gently, and if I could tell her to yank it out I would, but Alaric comes up and slams the pencil back down into my hand again. I screamed, and Elena stands up behind me.
"You said that you would let her go!" Elena exclaimed.
"How many times do I have to tell you, Elena? Stop trusting vampires!" Alaric yelled at her.
Alaric stood in front of Elena and me as he made another phone call. She was sitting in a desk he had forced her into and staring at me intently. Elena looked confused, she had seen my kidnapped before and knew I was a fighter, but this time I was crying more than fighting. She was trying to figure out why I was so afraid and why I kept staring at the journals behind Alaric.
Ric held the phone to his ear as the call connected. " Alaric, " I heard my little brother's voice say over the phone. I started to fight against my restraints and tried to push the cloth out of my mouth, despite how much it hurt.
"I have Alex and Elena, and if you don't bring Klaus here, I'll kill them both," Alaric told him. I pushed the cloth completely out of my mouth, and it fell on my neck. I groaned in pain and Alaric walked behind me. "Say hello to your little brother." He took the end of the cloth and pulled it back on my neck as I started to scream and choke at the same time. Alaric then ended the call and untied the fabric from my neck.
He walked over to the breaker full of wolfsbane and vervain, then dips the cloth into them. The skin around my mouth and neck was very red and probably peeling away. Both beakers were blood red, and Alaric walked back to behind me.
"Please, Alaric," I coughed. "Don't do this. Please! My father was a monster! You don't have to be like him," I begged. Elena got up from her desk when everything clicked in her head. I am so grateful you were there when Stefan and Damon read my father's journals.
"Alaric stop!" She exclaimed as he walked back behind me, but he pushes Elena back into her seat.
"Sit down!" He yelled. "This keeps the vervain and wolfsbane in her system. It's like inhaling razor blades with every breath." He puts the cloth back in my mouth. My skin began to smoke and burn. I screamed in pain and shook against the wooden wolfsbane soaked pencils in my hands, which caused me more pain. "Too bad she's a fighter, or she wouldn't be in so much pain." Alaric then walked in front of me and leaned down, so he was eye level with me.
"Why are you doing this to her?" Elena asked him.
"Because she's a monster, Elena! Do you know how many people she has killed over the years?" Alaric asked. "Once you kill her, there will be nothing standing between me ending Klaus which will ultimately kill her brothers," Alaric explained, and I fought against the pencils again. But Ric slammed the pencils down and held them there. "Happily her father found out her weak point and wrote it down. There are pages and pages about how she would fight against any restraint he put on her at the mention of her brothers." Alaric and I held eye contact as more tears fell down my face. I couldn't even blame the tears on the pain I felt; I was more afraid then in pain. My eyes followed Alaric as he picked up the white oak stake and walked towards Elena.
"What?! No! I'm not killing Alex." She said to him.
"Isn't this what you wanted, Elena? For me to teach you how to kill a vampire?" Alaric held out the white oak stake towards her. "Well, here's a vampire, better yet a hybrid, Elena. Kill her," He commanded.
"This isn't what I want," Elena said.
"Of course it is. All those hours you spent training, getting stronger, you could be a hunter, Elena. But you've never actually staked a vampire through the heart." He persistently holds out the stake and Elena stared at it, which scared me. I mean I was dating Klaus, a man who killed her and wanted her blood to make more hybrids, why shouldn't she kill me? But Elena sat back down in the desk next to me. Alaric paced in front of us frustrated with her.
"Why are you doing this?" Elena asked him.
"Because you need me. Because you're an eighteen-year-old girl without parents or guidance or any sense of right and wrong anymore," Alaric said, and I rolled my eyes. Bullshit! I'm here. I've been the only person who allows her to make her own decisions for Christ Sake!
"Look at you. How is this right?!" Elena yelled at him.
"Haven't you been listening! She's a monster. An abomination. Even her father knew it before she turned." Then he pointed to me. " She fell for the person who killed you and Jenna. She forgave Klaus after what he did to her flesh and blood, yet she still dares to try and fight for them. Now how is that right? Listen, Elena; your parents led the council. It was their life's mission to keep this town safe. They weren't dead six months before you undid it all," Alaric explained to her.
"You don't know anything about them," Elena said.
"Am I wrong? Do you think that they'd be proud of you?" Alaric kneeled in front of Elena. "If you don't side with the humans, you're just as bad as them. Now kill her," He said and handed her the stake. "Or I'll do it for you, and I'll make it hurt." Elena didn't move. "Get up!" He grabbed Elena's arm and pulled her out of her seat. Alaric placed her in front of me and forced the stake into her hand. He pulled away, and Elena stood there with the stake in her hand for a moment, then turns around and tries to stab Alaric. He grabs her wrist before she could. "I thought I taught you better than that."
"You did," Elena informed and broke the beaker filled with vervain over Alaric's head. He screams in pain as his flesh starts to burn. Elena pulled the pencils out of my hand and removed the cloth from my mouth. "Get help!" She said, and I sped out of there.
I stopped halfway down the hallway as I realized how much the wolfsbane and vervain weaken me. I started to walk when suddenly someone grabbed me from behind. The person covered my mouth so that no one could hear my scream.
"Shhh. It's okay; it's okay. It's me," Klaus whispered, and I calmed down almost instantly. He took his hand off of my mouth and looked around for Alaric. "It's okay; you're safe." He turned me to face him. I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him, which he returned and held me tightly to him. "We'll save Elena. You go straight home," Klaus said to me, and I nodded. He pulled back and brushed the red lines on my face and neck as a look of anger came across his face. "You stay inside, do you understand?" Klaus asked, and I nodded again. He kissed the top of my head, and I held onto his shirt as he started to leave.
"No, Klaus he's going to kill you and my brothers," I warned him in a shaky voice, and Klaus looked at me heartbroken. "He read my father's journals. He knows certain things-"
"Shh, shh," Klaus held the hand that was above his heart and wiped away my tears. "I'll be ok," I shook my head. "My love - my love listen to me." Klaus held my chin and made eye contact with me. "I promise I will come home to you," Klaus swore, and I pulled him into a long kiss. When we pulled away, I opened my eyes, and Klaus was gone.
