AN- Written while listening to High Hopes by P!ATD. I'm pretty sure Jason would play football instead, but I'm not American ( I'm a proud Brit) and don't understand the game at all, so I've done regular football (or soccer) to make life that little bit easier for me. Please enjoy, vote and comment to let me know what you think. Xx
"Whoo! Come on Jason! Yeah! Score! Score!" Jason heard Thalia and Percy yelling from the bleachers overlooking the soccer pitch. He was currently running to the end of the pitch, heading towards the goal and the keeper. He was getting ready to shoot when someone from the opposition violently tackled him to the ground, allowing another player to kick the ball upfield. A large groan was emitted from the crowd, much like when someone drops their lunch in the cafeteria.
"Oooooo! That was nasty." Thalia murmured to Percy.
"Oh yeah. That guy was massive! And Jase is six foot three!" (Please tell me if I'm wrong, I just found this off Google). From the top of the bleachers, they could hear a commotion coming from below, and see other spectators leaning over to look down. "I think we should get down there," he said to his cousin. She quickly nodded.
After pushing through the crowd to get there, they saw Jason sitting up with his jaw clenched tightly.
"Jason? What's wrong?" Thalia shouted as she ran across to him with Percy. He looked over and let out a breath with relief.
"My knee. It kills!" He answered blinking rapidly. Percy glanced over and gasped. His leg was twisted inwards and had a huge bruise forming on his knee.
"Jesus! We need to get you to hospital," he told them. "Jamie, you wanna help?" He inquired looking to the closest player.
He nodded and they gingerly wrapped his arms around them to lift him.
"Ah! Ah! Ah!" He winced as his leg dragged along the turf. "I can't do this!" Tears were now starting to make their way down his face. "Please don't make me do this..."
"Shhh. Come on man, you can do this, it's not far to the car. Thalia?" The dark-haired boy called behind himself.
"Yeah?"
"Can you grab his stuff for me? The locker room is through the back entrance and on the left."
"Yeah sure." And she scrambled off to get his clothes.
Eventually, they got to the car and Thalia met them there a few seconds later. It was a struggle, but they soon got Jason in the vehicle.
Twenty minutes later, and they were in the ER, the pain almost unbearable. A nurse had come and gotten him some ice, but it wasn't doing a lot.
"Jason Grace?" The voice came from a doctor trying to get past the swarms of people rushing around. Jason looked up, his eyes widening, first with gladness that the doctor was here, and then fear that he would have to get up and meet him. Luckily the doctor held up a clipboard to stop him. Soon he came over and wheeled him into an exam room, talking to some nurses on the way.
"Okay, so you've hurt your knee," He said once Jason was settled on the bed, snapping on some gloves. "Playing soccer no less. Can you tell me what happened?" He pulled a stool to the bed and examined the knee while Percy and Thalia waited next to the door for the verdict.
He had to stop multiple times while explaining to take sharp intakes of breath, braving himself from the pain. Soon enough he was finished and the doctor pulled off his gloves and chucked them into a nearby bin.
"So what's wrong with him?" Thalia asked stepping closer to her little brother and wrapping her arm around his shoulders.
"He has dislocated his patella," He paused, letting them gasp at the discovery. "As you can see here," he said waving the two over." The patella is out of place, and hasn't gone back into place. It's very swollen and bruised for the injury."
"What are the next steps?" Percy asked gingerly, afraid of the answer.
"He will be taken to X-ray so we can accurately reduce the knee, get him an immobilizer and crutches and see where it goes from there."
"What about recovery?" The soccer star asked nervously.
"It all depends on how the initial recovery goes, like resting properly can help your physio therapy. We'll be looking at around four to six weeks before we start therapy, but we'll know more after the X-Rays. Someone will be down in a few minutes."
"Thank you doctor." Jason said quietly.
He nodded and left, but not before whispering in a nurse's ear making her giggle.
"Flirt," Thalia muttered angrily.
"Don't condemn the man just because you swore them off!" Percy said exasperated. "They could be married!"
"And work together? Bad idea..."
"Shut up you two!" And thankfully they did because just then, a porter came in to take Jason upstairs.
"Shit!" The blond exclaimed as he got into the wheelchair.
"Are you okay?!" Thalia asked worriedly.
"Piper," he murmured before looking up at Percy. "We didn't call her. Fuck..."
" Oh my Gods, she's going to kill us! I'll call her now!" He cried before running to the waiting room to try and find a signal. After three rings, she picked up.
"Hey Pipes, how's it going?"
" Good thanks. Did you need something? "
"Nope, it's just..."
" What? Spit it out! "
" Jason had a bit of and accident... " At this he took the phone away from his ear so as he wasn't deafened. Shame it didn't work.
"What?! What the hell happened?"
"He was tackled at his soccer game and hurt his knee. He's alright though. We took him to hospital to check."
"Well okay, but what do they think is wrong?"
"Suspected dislocated knee. It looks really bad. He's having some X-Rays right now."
" Okay, I'll come meet you. St Bernie's? "
"Yeah, room 203. See you in a few."
" See you. "
He went back in to Thalia to wait with her for Jason and Piper. Fifteen minutes later, Jason was wheeled back into his room and helped onto the bed. Just as he was getting settled, they heard a distressed voice being spoken to by a calming one. Percy picked out the distressed one saying, I need to see my boyfriend, he's in room 203!
"It's Piper." They all took deep breaths and plastered smiles on their faces just as Piper burst through the door.
"Sparky! How are you? What happened?" She inquired before leaning over and giving her boyfriend a hug. He winced as she say down next to him.
"I'm fine thanks. I mean, it obviously hurts, but it's much better now you're here." He told her, receiving a winning smile in return.
"Do you know what happened to the game?"
"No..." He sighed as the realisation hit him. He looked up and have Percy his best puppy eyes.
"On it," He told them pulling out his phone, and then pausing. "You know, you do have your own phone."
"Yeah but I'm talking to my girlfriend." He answered, reciprocating the smile Piper gave him.
"Dick."
"Hope I'm not interrupting anything?" It was the doctor, holding the X-Rays in one hand and charts in the other.
"No no, it's fine. I'm just friends with an idiot." The dark haired man answered quickly.
"Okay good, because I have the results." They all watched with sites breath as he clipped the sheets to the light up box. " Okay, it seems that as well as dislocating your patella, you've fractured it. It's nondisplaced so there shouldn't be too many possible complications. This explains the extreme pain, bruising and swelling. From here, we reduce the knee, cast it for six weeks, move to an immobilized and PT. I'll get the equipment so we can start casting. What colour would you like? "
"Light blue?"
"Sure." And he finally left.
"I got the score. GTO's lost 4-3 to the Rhinos. Sorry man."
Jason brought his hands up to his face covering his eyes and leant back on his pillows. "Dammit! We could've won if it wasn't for me! Fuck my life!"
"Hey!" Piper shouted angrily. "It is not your fault! If anything, it was the guy that rammed into you! Don't you dare put yourself down for something that was on of your control!"
"But now I'll be out for the rest of the season, and the team won't have a chance with our their star striker! It's our senior year! I won't have another chance!"
"Well, then you can play better at college! And do you think your team is really that bad? That they're dependent on you?" He didn't respond to that. "I-I have to get out of here, but when I come back later, I hope you have a better mindset." She left without looking back and Thalia went to the cafeteria to get some refreshments, so it was just the two boys left. Percy sat down and messily ran his hands through his hair. He needed a trim. A few seconds later he heard some sniffling from the bed next to him.
" Hey man, " He said offering his hand out for his cousin. He took it surprisingly.
"I can't believe this happened. How did you manage it?" He asked, only his eyes visible over the pillow.
"Ha ha, well," He lightly chuckled, stretching his hand, grimacing occasionally. "It was very hard emotionally, not being able to play. But its not like it was permanent. And that's what kept me going - knowing I could carry on playing in the future. You just need to listen to the doctor, and not over do it. It could ruin all of your hard work."
"Okay." The blond nodded from behind the pillow.
An hour later, Jason was ready to go, walking around his room on his crutches bored. All the paperwork had been signed, all he was waiting on now was Percy. He had left half an hour ago to get some fresh clothes, and still hadn't arrived. He perched on the edge of his bed, and grabbed his phone from the side table scrolling through his messages.

"What's wrong?!"
"Who is this?"
"Jason Grace?"
"I regret to inform you that your friend has been in an accident on the I-678. A speeding car went into the back of him coming out of the traffic and flipped his vehicle. I couldn't get a hold of his mother, and you were the next contact. Are you able to notify her and come down here?"
"Yeah, yes! How is he?"
"I cannot give details at the moment, but he is in critical condition."
"Okay, thankyou."
"Good evening."
AN- what will happen to Percy?
