Sonic the Hedgehog was sitting in the sand at the beaches near the ocean as he was waiting for someone to arrive there. Not too long afterwards, the person he was waiting for popped up from the ocean: It was Merna the Merhog, an old love interest of Sonic. The half mermaid half hedgehog being swam over to the ocean shore, and Sonic smiled when he saw her, and he quickly shot to his feet and rushed over to Merna.
"Hey, Merna! I haven't seen you in years!" Sonic told Merna with a beaming smile.
Merna smiled back and nodded. "I could say the same thing, Sonic. I haven't seen you in years either." She said.
"So, you wanted to invite me over to Mertopia for Christmas, right?" Sonic then asked Merna with a curious tilt of his head.
Merna nodded again. "I did. And I know that you're a surface dweller, but I've got something that can fix that." She said as she took out a shiny underwater grass and handed it to the blue hedgehog. "Eat this, it'll help you survive underwater." She told him.
Sonic looked at the shiny grass. "Alright..." He said as he ate the underwater grass and swallowed it. Suddenly, his body started tingling and his legs went numb. "What's going on? Why can't I feel my legs?" He asked Merna.
"Don't worry, this won't hurt one bit." Merna assured him. Sonic then collapsed in the sand. The grass had done its work. "How do you feel?" Merna then asked Sonic.
"Funny. That grass did some weird stuff to me." Sonic told her. He then tried to stand up, only to collapse again. "Hey, what gives?" He wondered. Sonic then looked behind him and saw that he had a long blue fishtail instead of legs. "Ohmigosh, I'm a-"
"Merhog." Merna finished. "Now that you're one of my kind, you'll be able to breathe underwater and not drown." She told Sonic. Sonic looked at his tail. The fins at the bottom of his tail were the same color as his red and white shoes.
"Come on, let's get going to Mertopia." Merna then told Sonic as the two Merhogs dove into the water, under the ocean surface.
"Lead the way, Merna." Sonic told the orange Merhog with a smile.
"Alright!" Merna beamed as she took Sonic's hand, and the two Merhogs sped off towards Mertopia.
Later, the two Merhogs got to Mertopia, and Sonic looked around with a smile. "Looks like Mertopia hasn't changed a bit." He said.
Merna smiled and nodded. "Yeah, it's still the same as the last time you and Tails were here." She replied as she took Sonic up to the palace, where the Queen of the Merhogs was waiting for them.
"Ah, Merna! I'm so glad you were able to bring Sonic back here for Christmas!" The Queen beamed.
Merna smiled and nodded again. "So am I, mother. I can't wait to celebrate Christmas with him." She replied to her.
Sonic's eyes widened as he looked at the Queen and back at Merna. "No way, you're a princess?!" He asked Merna.
Merna giggled. "I am! I never told you and Tails the first time we met, because I wasn't sure how'd you react!" She replied as she hugged the blue Merhog.
"Awesome! I get to spend my Christmas Evening with a Merhog princess! I don't know how this Christmas can get any better, Merna!" Sonic beamed.
"Well, just wait until you see the Christmas dinner." Merna giggled as she and the Merhog Queen took Sonic inside the palace. Later that night, once the Christmas dinner was ready, Sonic, Merna, the Queen and some royal servants sat down at the dinner table of the palace, with Sonic sitting next to Merna and the Queen.
The chefs soon brought the Christmas dinner into the dining room and placed it down on the dinner table. Sonic grinned at the sight of the meal. "Wow, this looks like a meal fit for royalty!" The blue Merhog was quite impressed.
Merna giggled at that. "Well, help yourself! There's enough for everyone!" The orange Merhog told him.
"Works for me!" Sonic chuckled as he began to put various foods on his plate and began to eat it. Later that night, after the Christmas party had ended, Sonic and Merna were lying in Merna's bed in the Mertopian palace. Sonic had decided to spend the night with Merna and the rest of the Merhogs of Mertopia.
"Thanks for letting me stay over at the palace for the night, Merna. It's just been so long since I've last seen you that I didn't want to leave just yet." Sonic told Merna with a smile as he flicked his Merbian tail for a bit.
Merna smiled and nodded. "That's completely understandable, Sonic. It's nice to catch up over a delicious Christmas dinner and then spending the night over at my mother's fancy underwater palace." She told the blue Merhog.
"Yeah...It's just that you're so incredible...Before Tails and I met you, I always thought Merhogs were just a myth...But you went and proved me that they do exist." Sonic said with a smile.
Merna giggled at that. "Yeah...We're still grateful for you and Tails helping us fend off Captain Memo and Dr. Robotnik...We couldn't have done it without you boys." She smiled back.
"Well, I couldn't have done it without you." Sonic replied as he wrapped his arms around Merna's back.
"Not to mention, you were a pretty great kisser..." Merna smiled some more as she wrapped her arms around Sonic's neck and the two Merhogs kissed again after they had shared their first kiss years ago.
The next morning, Sonic and Merna arrived back at the beach where they had met yesterday. Sonic crawled out of the water and sat down in the sand. "So, how do I turn back to normal?" Sonic asked Merna.
"I've got the antidote right here." Merna said as she tossed Sonic a piece of pink coral. Sonic looked at the pink coral, and proceeded to eat it. Soon after, his Merbian tail disappeared and his legs returned. Sonic smiled as he stood up and stretched his legs out.
"Well, thanks for the fun Christmas Evening, Merna. I'll never forget it. Let's Merhog around again sometime, yeah?" Sonic said with a smile.
Merna smiled and nodded. "Of course, Sonic. You know where to find me if you want to Merhog around again sometime." She replied before the two kissed one more time before Sonic smiled, waved and ran off into the distance. Merna then dove back under the water and swam back down to Mertopia.
