Maryanne and Richard had a rough time, but they were making progress. Being busy with their daughters helped. Maryanne was working on the guilt she felt for saying and thinking so many times that she didn't want any more children. That was just going to take time to work through. Richard and Maryanne did decide against having more children. They already had their hands full with the girls.
Now that the triplets are two, they are so much more active. Maryanne spends a good portion of the day chasing at least one of her daughters. There are times when she still feels guilty about her boys, but she no longer blames herself. She just feels bad that her boys never had a chance and often wonders what would have been.
When she was forty-eight years old, Maryanne gave birth to healthy twin boys named Raphael Richard Thorpe and Felix Frances Thorpe. Raphael means 'God has healed' and Felix means 'happiness and lucky'. They were both perfect names for Maryanne and Richard's rainbow babies. The triplets were now four and things weren't so overwhelming anymore. Robert and Amy had welcomed three more babies. In addition to Charlotte who was also four years old, they had two more daughters and a son. Their daughters were named Marianna 'Mari' Patrizia (3 years old), Viviana 'Vivi' Francesca (2 years old), and their son was named Enzo Raimondo (two months old). Marianna's name meant beloved, grace, and nobel. She was named after her aunt and two grandmothers. Viviana's name meant life and free. She was named after her grandfather. Enzo's name means winner and protector. It's the Italian equivalent to Henry after Amy's father. The baby was also named after his Uncle Raymond.
"Hey Maryanne," Cybill said when her friend walked in, "where are the kids?"
"At home with my brother and Richard. They're giving me a break."
"You know, I have to tell you how much I hate that you are already so damn thin again. It's only been four months."
Just then Zoey and Justin walked in, "Hey mom, Cybill," Justin greeted the two.
"Hey, baby, what's new?" Maryanne asked.
"Nothing much," Justin answered, "I mean, last night Zoey and I got engaged."
"That's gre..."
"ENGAGED!" Maryanne and Cybill both yelled. Zoey held up her hand to show them her engagement ring. Maryanne and Cybill were thrilled and congratulating the two like crazy. Justin had asked Ira for his blessing before proposing but didn't talk to Cybill or his mother because he was afraid they'd interfere.
"We wouldn't have interfered," Cybill said after Zoey and Justin left.
"Oh, please," Maryanne said, "we probably would have proposed to Zoey ourselves."
"Yeah, instead of Justin down on one knee it would have been us."
"Reciting a speech that we wrote for him."
"Proposing in a way that we planned."
"I'm surprised they didn't wait until after they were married to tell us."
"Me too, and we better not get our hopes up about helping plan the wedding."
Zoey walked back in, "mom, Maryanne, I was wondering if you would help me with the wedding planning? I mean, I get the final say, but I need someone to show me what I need and when I need it."
"Are you messing with us?" Cybill asked.
"I can see why you would think that, but no I'm not. Again, I get the final say."
"Sure honey, we'll help," Cybill said graciously.
"Thanks," Zoey left the room.
Maryanne and Cybill jumped up, "Wooooo!"
That night when Maryanne got home, she told everyone the good news. Then she called her family in New York to tell them. When she went to check on her children, Maryanne couldn't help but smile. There had been a lot of bumps in the road the past four years, but she felt truly blessed looking at her sleeping little ones.
"Dear God," Maryanne came to a realization, "I could become a grandmother soon! Ahhh!" Maryanne groaned waking up her boys. "Damn," she walked into the nursery and began to help her boys go back to sleep. Maryanne snuck out of the nursery and got into bed with her husband. She finally had everything she could ever possibly want in life. She felt joy, happiness, and most of all loved.
