Putting down the letter, Harry started sniffling, thinking about what his life would have been like had his parents still been around. Sirius hugged him, allowing him to bury his face into Sirius's robes and cry, Sirius stroking his back, comforting him.
Once Harry stopped crying, Sirius asked Harry for his permission and picked up the letter, reading it.
So it's true, the Peverell House has been merged with the Potter House. That's why James had that invisibility cloak. That trunk seems useful… Maybe I can teach Harry in it, to help catch up on 9 years of knowledge about pureblood customs and his family history. But first, his magical core needs to be unblocked. The goblin healers will be able to help me do that, and probably give him some potions to help undo those years of damage from all the malnutrition and beatings.
"Master Ironfist, can I get the goblin healers to unblock Heir Potter's magical core? And if it's possible, run a scan on him and give him some potions to undo some of the damage from staying with his Aunt and Uncle."
"Yes, and you will have to pay for it, not that you will have any problems paying."
"And how much will it be if I may ask?"
"To unblock his core, 100 galleons, and depending on the amount of potions he needs to be given, about another 400 galleons."
"Alright."
Master Ironfist wrote on a piece of parchment before clicking his fingers, causing the parchment to disappear.
"If I may ask, how was he mistreated by his Aunt and Uncle?"
"He was not given enough to eat and they would hit him as well. Madam Bones did a preliminary scan on him and we are launching an investigation into the Dursleys."
"In that case, I suggest you get the healers to record the results of a scan so that it can be used as evidence against them. The goblin healers are certified by the Wizengamot so the scans will be accepted by them to be used as evidence. However, Madam Bones scans might not be able to be used as evidence although she is the Head of the DMLE as she is not a certified healer."
"Yes, I will. Thank you for the advice."
At that moment, a goblin, that Harry decided looked female, and that had looked much less threatening than the other goblins he had seen, walked into the room. Master Ironfist spoke to her, telling her everything that Sirius had told him and what Sirius had requested. She then told Harry and Sirius to follow her, so they stood up, thanking Master Ironfist before leaving his office.
They were led through a myriad of halls, and eventually reached a relatively large open room, with runes etched on the floor, and a lone bed in the centre.
"This is one of our healing rooms, we make use of runes, goblin spells, and potions to heal. Lord Black, I will run a scan on Heir Potter first to determine how to heal him, and record it down so that you can use it as evidence for the investigation against his previous guardians. Is that correct?" the goblin healer said while ushering them into the room, getting Harry to take a seat on the bed.
"Yes."
The goblin healer raised her arm, chanting and waving it around Harry, and rows of words and numbers started to appear on the parchment attached to a clipboard looking board she was holding. Once she was done, she read the numbers off the chart, becoming more and more concerned as she read on.
"Why was he fed so little? It has stunted his growth by twenty percent for the past twelve years and seven months, although his growth has improved for the past 3 years! He is currently 148 cm and 42 kg, when he should be about 165 cm and 51 kg. Additionally, he has many broken bones that have not been properly set. I will be able to fix all his broken bones right now, but he will have to be on a potion regimen for the next two months to undo the malnourishment. I will also be able to unblock his magical core right now but his magical levels are rather high so it might result in some backlash, so I will have to do it in a more secure room."
Harry looked shocked, not knowing that he was that badly malnourished and that he had been mistreated so badly. He had always thought that he wasn't treated well, but he did not know how much it had truly affected him as that was how he had remembered being treated all his life and he did not know that parents typically did not treat their kids like that at all. He was even happier that Sirius was now his magical guardian and was no longer charged with a crime he had not committed, and wanted Harry to stay with him so he did not have to return to the Dursleys.
"Okay, thank you," Sirius muttered, maintaining a calm facade but internally worrying about it, hoping that the physical damage that the Dursleys had done on Harry could be reversed, and knowing it would have likely caused emotional damage that he would have to reverse as well.
Sighing and rubbing his head, he followed the goblin healer, along with Harry, to another room. The goblin healer asked Harry to sit on the bed, before telling him that she would be fixing his bones. She quickly muttered some spells once they were inside the room, and Harry felt his body go numb before odd cracking sounds came from his bones, showing that they were healing and setting in the right place.
Afterwards, the goblin healer said that he would undo Harry's magical core and asked Sirius to wait outside the door, telling him that Harry would be safe and that it was to prevent the magical backlash from unblocking Harry's magical core from harming him. Sirius exited the room, finding a bench outside the thick door and sat on it, hoping for the best.
Inside the room, the goblin healer asked Harry to remove his shirt, tracing her finger across his back, drawing invisible runes that would help to unblock his core. She then gave him a purple potion that had an unpleasant smell, and asked him to drink it. Harry drank it, making a face after swallowing the bitter potion. The goblin healer then waved her hand again, chanting some spells, allowing his magical core to be unblocked.
After two minutes of chanting, an invisible force that seemed to originate from Harry pushed her back and caused the room to echo. Outside, Sirius felt the force and heard the noise from inside the room, causing his concerns to heighten. The force ended after ten seconds and the goblin healer regained her bearings, and stood up, only to find that Harry had collapsed. She quickly muttered, waving her hand in the air, before frowning and exiting the room to find Sirius.
"Lord Black, Heir Potter has collapsed! I am not sure what happened, but there seems to be something in his head that his magical core attempted to expel when it was unblocked, but was unable to, causing it to overpower itself, resulting in him collapsing. I will have to remove it, but I have not seen anything like that before, all I know is that it is dark magic and that it was affecting, and will continue affecting his ability to perform magic as it is absorbing part of his magic from him. I don't know how he managed to get through three years of magical school with fifty percent of his magical core blocked and the thing in his head absorbing even more of his magical power. Anyways, I will have to get some help to remove it from the curse breakers as I suspect it is some sort of dark curse."
Sirius' face paled as the goblin healer continued talking, until it became a deathly white. All he could reply was a measly, "O...Okay."
The goblin healer left Sirius to calm himself down and walked off to get the curse breakers to help remove it. She returned soon after with two goblin curse breakers who quickly greeted Sirius before swiftly entering the room.
They waved their hands around him to determine what it was, and were puzzled by it. They had never seen anything like it in a human before. However, it looked like something they had seen in non-living objects before, but they did not think it could be put into a human.
They waved their hands again, muttering spells under their breath before determining what it was. They turned to the goblin healer, speaking in worried tones in gobbledygook. She frowned, concerned about it, and left the room to talk to Sirius, the curse breakers following behind her.
"Lord Black, the curse breakers have determined that it is coming from his scar and it is a Horcrux!"
"A horcrux? That's one of the most vile, dark pieces of magic someone can do, to split their soul into parts! How did it get there?"
Pausing to think, he came up with the answer, exclaiming angrily, "Voldemort! He must have somehow planted part of his soul into Harry through Harry's scar when he cast the killing curse on Harry and it rebounded."
At this point the curse breakers interrupted, saying, "The killing curse rebounding likely caused his soul to shatter and somehow end up in Heir Potter's scar, causing a horcrux to be in his head. We will have to get it out as soon as possible to prevent it from causing further harm, as it is putting a strain on his magical core. Thankfully, it seems to be on the surface and his magic has already been trying to push it out, so it should be relatively easy to get out without causing him too much harm. However, if the horcrux is from Voldemort, which is highly likely, I am concerned about whether he had created more, which we will need to destroy if they exist."
The goblin healer and curse breakers rushed back into the room, leaving Sirius to sit outside, pondering what had happened. How could Harry be so unfortunate to have so many bad things happening to him? And somehow, he remained such a friendly and kind boy, always willing to help others without a thought about himself, he was truly a Potter, chivalrous no matter what. Fate had not been kind to him, and it was a miracle he remained so light. Many others in his position, even those older, would have become dark, no matter how light they had been at first.
Meanwhile, in the room, the goblin healer and curse breakers were discussing how to remove the horcrux and what to do in case Voldemort had made more horcruxes. In the end, they concluded that they had to remove it and transfer it into a magical crystal that would allow it to be used as part of a device that could help them to track the rest of the horcruxes if they wanted to, and that they would remove the horcrux from Harry's scar first before they showed it to the goblin king and discuss how to deal with it as Harry's life was in danger.
One of the curse breakers left to retrieve the magical crystal while the other started drawing runes around Harry's body that would aid in getting the horcrux out of his scar. At the same time, the goblin healer drew protective runes around his body as well, primarily around his scar, to protect him from any possible backlash that might occur when they try to remove the horcrux from his scar.
Finally, they were done drawing the runes and the other curse breaker had returned with the crystal and they started to remove the horcrux from Harry's scar. They waved their hands while chanting and after a while, Harry started to squirm and shake and a black mist floated out of his scar. One of the curse breakers pointed his hand towards Harry's scar while the other floated the crystal to the air near it, and all of a sudden, a thick black cloud floated from the scar and into the diamond, turning the diamond from its clear colour to a dark, inky grey, punctuated by a reverberating loud scream.
Just like that, it was over, and the curse breakers lifted the crystal into a clear container, and put it into a pouch, so that they could bring it to the goblin king. The goblin healer immediately started work on reviving Harry, and to his relief, Harry's eyes fluttered open.
"What... what's happening? My head feels like it got hit by a thousand stones and everything is spinning!"
The goblin healer breathed a sigh of relief and left the room to fetch Sirius, who hurried into the room and saw Harry attempting to sit up. He pulled a confused Harry into a hug and muttered, "Thank goodness you're okay."
Harry looked at Sirius confused, wondering what had happened so the goblin healer explained that he had a horcrux in his head, and told Sirius and Harry how they had managed to get it out of his head. Sirius breathed a sigh of relief after hearing that the horcrux was out of Harry's head and he was safe, though there was still a nagging worry at the back of his head that Voldemort had created more horcruxes, which would mean that he would still be alive.
After Sirius had explained to Harry what a horcrux was and that it meant Voldemort was not actually dead, Harry realised that that was why Voldemort was able to be in the back of Professor Quirrell's head at the end of his first year and that the diary he had stabbed might have been a horcrux as Voldemort had been able to talk through it and a black mist had dissipated from the diary after he had stabbed it. Concerned, Sirius and the goblin healer asked him to tell the full story of what had happened, and he told them about the adventures he had, making Sirius question the safety of Hogwarts and what Dumbledore was doing. The goblin healer asked whether he could tell the curse breakers about the diary and Voldemort being able to be in the back of Professor Quirrell's head as it might help them to find more horcruxes that they suspected Voldemort had made, and Harry reluctantly agreed, when the goblin healer said that they would not tell anyone else, not wanting many others to know about the things he had done.
Afterwards, the goblin healer did more detailed scans on Harry to determine the potions he would have to take to heal his body fully from the years of malnourishment and give him extra nutrients so that he would be the height and weight of an ordinary fourteen year old, or at least closer to one.
"Lord Black, Heir Potter will have to take these nutrient potions thrice a day after breakfast, lunch and dinner for the first month, and twice a day after breakfast and dinner for the month after. Additionally, he will have to take the bone strengthening potions once a day for the next two months. After two months, you will have to bring him back here for me to check his growth, and if all goes well, he will only have to take the nutrient potions once a day for three more months before he will at the height and weight he should be at. Of course, he will have to eat three full meals a day, consisting of at least one serving of protein, vegetables, and a fruit for each meal, with a snack, such as nuts or a fruit, between lunch and dinner," the goblin healer said while passing the case of one hundred and fifty small bottles of the light red nutrient potion, and another case of sixty small bottles of the dark green bone strengthening potion, with each bottle containing 10 ml of potion.
"Okay, thank you for all you help. I'll make sure Heir Potter follows the potion regimen," Sirius said, looking at Harry's paling face at the thought that he would have to consume all those potions.
With this, Harry and Sirius were brought back up to the top level of Gringotts.
"It's already two o'clock Harry! We've been at Gringotts for five hours! Aren't you hungry? Isn't your stomach simply rumbling for food?" Sirius asked dramatically.
Not hearing a reply from Harry, Sirius looked at him, and noticing he had a nervous look on his face, he hugged Harry, saying, "Don't worry, everything will be fine. I'll help you with everything okay?"
With this, the nervous look on Harry's face left, and Sirius pulled him out of Gringotts, after casting a glamour charm on the both of them, claiming that he was "absolutely starving" and wanted to eat lunch, and that he knew a place in Diagon Alley that sold the most marvellous food, and dragged Harry towards it half running, while holding a tight grasp on Harry's hand.
Bemused, Harry followed along, smiling at the thought that he would be staying with Sirius, who was so fun to be around, for the entire holidays.
