Beverly's ear surgery was successful and even though she was still healing, she could notice a huge difference in her hearing and her balance. Beverly had to have her cataract surgery on one eye at a time. She would get one eye done and eight weeks later the other. Her first cataract surgery was two weeks after her ear surgery and was successful. Two weeks before her second cataract surgery, Penny had the baby. She and Leonard told Beverly and Alfred to not worry about visiting the hospital. When Penny and Leonard brought their daughter home they went straight to his parents' suite. Beverly was the first to hold the baby girl.

"I wish I could see her better," Beverly commented, "hopefully in a few weeks I will. From what I can make out, she sure is beautiful. What name did you end up deciding on?"

"Leonore Penelope Hofstadter," Leonard announced.

Beverly looked up at her son and daughter-in-law, "really?" she whispered.

"We actually decided the day we talked to you about names, but wanted to surprise you," Penny added. Penelope was also Penny's mom's middle name.

"That's so sweet," Beverly said with a smile, "thank you."

"Can grandpa have a turn now?" Alfred asked.

"Oh, I suppose so," Beverly said as she handed the baby to Alfred. Beverly couldn't wait, now, for her next procedure to be done so that she could really see Leonore.

Alfred wheeled Beverly into the house after her second cataract surgery. She decided to use her wheelchair until her sight was better so that she didn't hurt herself. After two weeks, she was finally able to see. She had to wear her glasses, but she was able to see so much better than before.

"You know, I kind of miss you needing me so much," Alfred told Beverly while he made dinner one night.

Beverly smiled as she set the table, "it's always nice to feel needed."

At dinner, Alfred decided to have a conversation with Beverly he had been putting off for a few days, "so, do you remember after Penny's baby shower how I told you I would stay with you to help you get better?"

"Yes, and that was very generous of you."

"Now that you're better, I was wondering what you wanted me to do?"

Beverly looked at Alfred for a moment, "I guess I had never thought about that."

"About what?"

"You leaving," the answer surprised Alfred, "you have a job and a life back in New York. I'm sure you're anxious to get back to all of that."

"Do you want me to stay?"

"I want you to do what you want to do."

They finished dinner in silence. As Alfred did the dishes he had finally had enough of the silence. "That's it! I want you to tell me everything you feel about me and whether or not I should stay. No saying that I should do what I want or what will make me happy. I want to know what you are feeling."

"Fine, I feel stupid that I let you back into my heart without thinking that your life was somewhere else."

"You let me back into your heart?"

"Yes, and now it's all over and I feel like an idiot."

"Who said it's all over?"

"Alfred, you are going back to your life in New York."

"What if I don't want to?"

"You're still going. I love you too much to let you leave your life behind."

"What did you just say?"

"You're still going."

"After that?"

"I love you too much."

Alfred smiled, "I love you too. Why else do you think I want to stay here so badly?"

Beverly smiled as her eyes watered and she ran into Alfred's arms. "You really want to stay here?"

"Of course I do. I already retired before I even left New York. I wanted to come out here to be closer to Leonard, Penny, and Nori. Instead, I found another reason to stay in California and in this house. My life is here, Beverly. My life is wherever you are."

Beverly kissed Alfred and he lifted her to carry her into the bedroom.

The following day, Alfred made Beverly breakfast in bed.

"Good morning, honey," he said as he entered with the tray.

"Good morning," Beverly sat up, "what's all this?"

"I figured that you had worked up an appetite last night."

Beverly chuckled, "you would be right." Alfred climbed in next to Beverly and the two enjoyed their breakfast. "Thank you, honey," Beverly kissed Alfred, "that was very sweet of you." Alfred took the tray to the kitchen to clean the dishes. Beverly got out of bed to get ready for the day, but quickly realized the effect the night before had on her hip. She limped around while she got ready. When she was done, she limped over to the closet and got her cane.

"Honey, are you alright?" Alfred was concerned when he saw the woman limping out with her cane. She hadn't had to use it for the longest time.

"I'm fine," she answered. Alfred glared at her not believing the woman. "What?"

"Tell me the truth."

"Alright, my hip is stiff and sore. I lied because I didn't want you to blame yourself or decide you never wanted to make love again."

Alfred took her into his arms, "I appreciate that, but you can tell me the truth. We're both learning what your body can and cannot handle. We just might have to get creative," Alfred smiled. That day the two spent watching movies on the couch and in bed.
