Karlito, Harry and Thalia raced to the bathroom. Annabeth had disappeared. Percy and Jason had been herded with Hufflepuff. Harry thought that they'd be more worried about their friend, but maybe they had a good reason.
Harry was in the lead as they raced to the girl's bathroom. Karlito poked him in his back. "Save your stamina, Harry. We're nearly there." Harry only ran faster, forcing them to do the same. "How can you say that? Mione is in danger!" "I know, but we need to think about this! Is she really in that much danger? And why would Quirrell run away from her, even if he was oblivious to her. Wouldn't he try to beat the giant? And why wasn't he specific?" "What're you saying, Karlito?" Thalia said.
Karlito didn't slow down or stutter. "It's most definitely a trap for us three or...the exchange students. But, that doesn't matter at all! Hermione is in even more trouble. Let's go." They arrived there in fifty seconds. "Hermione!" The bathroom was in shambles. The giant, which as fifteen feet, stomped around over countless rubble.
"Damnit!" Harry heard an noise. "She's in a stall!" The giant looked at Harry, then the stall, then raised his club and swung. Karlito have Harry a look. "Good looks, Harry." The club shattered the stall. Luckily, Hermione was ducking.
"Damn!" Thalia and Karlito simultaneously jumped into action. The boy raised his wand. "I'll distract him. You get Hermione and get outta here!" "That's kinda self sacrifice..." "No time for idle chit chat! Wingardium Leviosa!" The club floated up and dropped down. Karlito tried to maintain it, but the club was heaver than ten Hagrid's.
The club slumped down. "Shit!" The giant picked up the club. "Augimenti!" The water sprouted into the giant's eyes. "Thalia! Go!" The girl jumped down and got Hermione. The girl made a shocked face, and a gutteral scream. "Hey! Hermione!" Hermione tried to cove for up. "It's fine. Let's get out of here!"
Thalia grunted and somehow flew out of there. That only seemed to confirm Karlito's suspicion. Harry ran before them and stood by Karlito. "Hey, big ugly...thing!" The giant looked down on him, making him feel slightly insignificant. "My name is Polybytes. I am here for the son of Poseidon!" Karlito didn't look shocked. Thalia and Annabeth grimaced. "How did you get here?"
"I don't know what you're talking about. I am Polybytes, and I have just risen from Tartarus." "Are you participating in the war?" "What war? My mother is still asleep. She won't be able to wake until...another thirty years or so."
Thalia nodded. "Annabeth... Percy...his stench must've woke him up earlier. We need a god to defeat a giant!" Annabeth didn't need her to tell her that. "Jeez. I know." "But, we can't summon gods here!" Karlito smiled and tilted his head. The chaos stopped as he cleared his throat. "Hmm. I may have a clue, dear demigods." "Yes?" "What if we could summon the god?"
The giant laughed. "With what measly power you have, you couldn't even summon the weakest god! Let's make a bet, shall we?" "Okay. I presume you'll wait until I've summoned the god, then fight us both?" "Yes. Now do it." "To summon a god," Annabeth began. Karlito cut her off. "You didn't want to tell me anything important these last few weeks, so you can shut your mouth, Chase."
Karlito put his wand to the group. "Kalo..." It was silent for a few seconds, then, a loud bang entered. Smoke cracked and everything was still. Then, a grumpy looking man stepped out of the crevices. "This is the worst bathroom I've ever stepped in." Karlito looked up and saw the familiar face all in all those books. "Jupiter?" Annabeth slumped over, Thalia frowned. "Ain't this some shit..."
"What do you mean?" "Polybytes wants Percy, who's not here. Jupiter is Jason's father whom he's never seen, is here. And Jason, not here."
The god looked angry. "Who has summoned me?" Karlito popped up off the ground. "Me. I need your help." "Why should I give any help to a bug like you?" "Well, I don't know. Does...children ring a bell?" "Um...okay, you puny human, I shall help you." "Okay! Let's get him." Soon, the giant was in pieces. Thalia was hacking him with her spear, and Annabeth was stomping his head in. Hermione and Karlito got in a couple of slashes, but it didn't matter anyway.
"This...was a bad decision." said Polybytes. He was in so many pieces, you couldn't tell his head from his leg. Jupiter stood over him. "I really don't want to kill today, but...nah, I want to kill today!" He stabbed his sword into the giant's head. Then, the giant evaporated into a dust cloud of gold. Before Jupiter evaporated, he looked at Karlito. "I like you. Don't become a jerk before we meet again."
After that, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, and other teachers came in. It seemed like terrible and unique timing. Hermione was marked down twenty points by Snape after she stood up for Harry and Karlito. But, Harry, Karlito, Thalia, and Annabeth were given six points each for saving their friend.
They were assigned to head back to their host immediately. Karlito led the way. Thalia and Annabeth were meters behind him, while Harry and Hermione were meters behind them. A bar of untrust was forming, and the issue only looked to get worse. Karlito arrived at the painting. "Bugs and Bees, Let me in, please?" The painting swung open.
Karlito sat down on a seat near the fire. In front of him, Thalia slumped down in the chair. Annabeth sat on the arm of that chair. Harry sat in a chair five feet away from Thalia. Hermione sat on the floor near the fire, and began to read. Karlito silently picked his hands up and took the book. Hermione didn't protest.
Harry was growing irrational, and quickly. "Can...can you at least inform us?" Thalia shook her head. Annabeth leaned down and whispered. "I thought you put the Mist on them?" "I did, but Karlito remembered, I guess. This must've jogged the other's memories?" "Very likely." Harry jumped up.
"That! That's it! You talk to us, lie to us, then whisper amongst yourselves. Why are you hiding from us? What are you hiding form us?" Annabeth put her head down. "Just forget about it. Let's go to bed-" "No." Karlito was sitting up. "Make a choice, demigods. Tell us what we want to know, or not be our friends. It's simple." Annabeth leaned down and whispered something inaudible.
Harry slamed his hand. "That! Stop it. You owe us, at least Hermione. The only reason she got attack was because of Percy. Tell us how to protect ourselves if we are going to be friends." Thalia put her head down. "I'm... we're...sorry. We can't." Harry stood. "Then don't talk to us anymore." Hermione, Karlito, come on." "Wait a second." Thalia said. She glanced at Hermione, who shrieked. "Please don't...they'll freak out!"
"So? They need to know. You boys call yourselves so righteous, yet you don't know that for the last three weeks it seems, you're good friend has been cutting herself." That took some of the pep out of the boy's walk. "Say what?" Before Annabeth could stop her, Thalia stood up. "Instead of caring about you're friends, Potter, you've here been worried about us and Malfoy and whatnot."
Karlito leaned down. "Is this true, Hermione?" Thalia went on, expressing her anger towards Harry. "At least Karlito asked multiple times. You, you didn't care. You only care about yourself. You're selfish, Harry James Potter. So, instead of trying to interrogate us, maybe you should interrogate yourself."
Harry looked at the scene. Then at Hermione, Karlito, then his hand. He then went up the stairs slowly, thinking about what Thalia had said. Karlito just slinked down. "Damn, what a day." He then got up. "Mione, let me see those scars." The girl held out her arm. "They aren't deep, I assure you." Karlito nodded. "I know, but there is so many. This is why you have been going to the bathroom, to cut yourself? You know better. Who am I to judge you? Come to me when you are ready, Mione." Hermione had gone up the girl's dorms when Karlito trudged halfway up the male's stairs, then turned to the demigods. "Harry might've been a jerk, but he was right about one thing. Until you even try to come to us to tell the truth, never talk to us again."
And this, this was the start of the rift between wizard and demigod.
Snape walked slowly down a corridor, then turned left to the office of his master and lord. He knocked thrice on the door in a specific rythym, altering to who it was.
"Come in." Snape entered. He kneeled immediately. "Maybe a visit to another place would've been appropriate?" "No, this is my office. Why wouldn't I talk to associates here?" "No disrespect, my Lord, but shall I ask a question." "Well, even though I know what you are going to say, go on ahead." "Why? Why lead Polybytes here, to the castle? You endangered innocents." "Yes, but in the end, everything played out like I suggested it would."
"Next time, my Lord, will not be as lucky. He might die." "Which he do you refer to?" Snape cleared up. "My sire, I'm referring to Jackson Alexander." "Oh, the special case. Minerva was playing smart bringing him to Hogwarts. She is the only person smart enough to even match me in this real life game of chess. As for his health, it doesn't matter if Quirrell or Voldemort kill him. He can die, no matter where is concerned." "Let's say, my Lord, that he isn't dead by the end of the year. What shall we do?" "Well, I'll have to kill him."
"What? Then Potter will most definitely not follow your lead." "Who says I'll kill him?" "What?" "Karlito is a demigod, right?" "Yes." "Okay, so what if that got out to Harry?" "Even if that does work, Harry won't believe us over him." "Yep, but just let it go. Karlito doesn't even have to die right now. He will die. If he lives past this year and unlocks his potential, then things will be disastrous for us. You have to sabotage him." "I refuse that, My Lord." "I don't blame you. Just know...a demigod bounty for Voldemort is millions of galleons. And don't you work with him, hence the Dark Mark?" "Yes, but what about Minerva?" "I'll keep her alive as long as Karlito and Harry don't get too powerful. I like a little bit of healthy competition."
Snape looked up at his master and lord, Headmaster Dumbledore. "Why do we do these nefarious things?" "Oh, Severus. For the good of the Wizarding World. To sacrifice a couple of loves, And get peace, that's a small price to pay."
